Enjoyed our stay here in dog friendly room at the Ship and Castle. Friendly staff and good choice of food. Good location right on the harbour
5.0
Historic property with great location on water. Walkable to all locations in town. Lovely helpful staff. Great restaurant below. Parking is about 2 blocks away in town car park lot so not so great lugging suitcases back and forth but daily rate was reasonable

Spent one night only, everything was fine. Parking was public quay-side carpark, less than 50meters away, which required an 8am top-up.

Despite the good location, the property is dated and need refreshing all together. To be honest, customer’s service need to improve considerably right from reception through to dinning. We thought we would have dinner at the hotel on Saturday evening instead of eating out. The receptionist asked us to go to the dining room to be attended to at about 7:15pm, only to be told that the Head chef said the kitchen was closed. There were only few people eating at the time. We couldn’t believe it. So disappointed. The management top brass need to get grip of the situation, otherwise; the hotel will lose business to other hotels in that area!

The property could do with a lick of paint, staff very helpful and pleasant, food was good.

Staff lovely and welcoming
Disappointed free parking actually is not and you have to park down road but it’s only 2 min walk and not too bad a price 11.00
For 48 hours
I booked on Hotels.com and seemed to pay a lot for a really standard room actually booked a better room I thought?
Room was small , shower room tiny, water pressure in shower awful toilet was making an awful noise no one came to look as requested
Tv should be on wall opposite bed not above dressing table seemed a bit silly ?
Breakfast was ok not a lot for veggies but partner enjoyed his
Hotel
Seems to need a bit of updating decorating
Staff and location made up for it though

Me and my son had a lovely time and was very happy with our accommodation

Great place some parts dated but overall very good place to stay right in the middle of the harbour

Good average hotel. Looking tired in places.
Shower tiling could use some anti-mould spray.

My husband and I had a fab visit with our dog. Location is spectacular, right next to the boats to Falmouth and a flat walk to a few nice pubs and restaurants or a takeaway fish and chip place. 1 minute walk to large car park (we paid £7 for 24 hours). Dont expect perfect (carpet worn in a couple of areas) but we really did have the most enjoyable stay in this hidden gem.

I booked a superior sea view room. Our room 208 was nothing like the photos of that level room. Dark with an unpleasant smell. Hotel fully booked so they couldn’t move us anywhere else. Needed a good clean.shower was poor with no power. Nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. Breakfast finished at 9.30 which is early when in a holiday hotel. Breakfast food limited and lukewarm .Room very hot and needs a fridge. Left a day early as we couldn’t face another night in the damp smelling room.

Very friendly staff.

The bathroom was not cleaned upon our arrival, and we found a tea bag in the toilet, indicating that it hadn't been checked by the staff. We checked in around 9:30 pm, but despite the late hour, the room was still not cleaned. The shower drained poorly, and there was no hot water in the morning, forcing us to take ice-cold showers. While the male receptionist at night addressed the issues with the toilet, the lady at the reception in the morning was dismissive and didn't even listen to our concerns about the bathroom. On a positive note, the hotel is conveniently close to the harbor. However, parking is outside and costs around 8 pounds per night.

So, it's right in the middle of St Mawes and that's great.
Hotel is fine, it's not stupidly up market thank goodness, we didn't want that, we wanted a nice friendly down to earth hotel with clean rooms in which you can be close to town and ferry and that is Exactly what we got. Rooms clean, bed comfortable, bathroom fine, shower adequate. Breakfast was lovely, coffee was awesome.. Its best to park in the Central car park, about 2 mins walk. Cheap too.
And the quiet, laid back, relaxing vibe of both hotel and St Mawes was utterly welcome. We will be back.

Tired hotel in need of a total re furb

Location is perfect and breakfast was served in the restaurant over looking the sea and harbour. The hotel is an older building but when price is taken into account it's good value for the location.

The place was very old and the rooms could do with a makeover asap the shower was rubbish and the bathroom was dirty and dated. We asked at reception for extra coffee for the coffee machine and was told that they would bring some to our room but nothing arrived in my overall opinion the hotel itself is in a great location but the hotel needs a good makeover and better customer service

Had to wait nearly an hour to have the key for the room arrived 5.50pm,
checked in on line prior to arrival with ETA 6pm ,not a great start, gave us a drink each as compensation, apparently they were short staffed.
Room 208 South facing has the opening window screwed to the frame on each corner and as I've seen the same comments on previous reviews this has been like this sometime, it makes the room very warm and stuffy.
Cant understand why the owners would not have the window repaired ?
Evening meal was poor kept away the second evening.
The good points friendly helpful staff, really nice buffet breakfast all you can eat and outstanding views of the harbour fantastic location,
Carpark about 150 yards away ,Overnight parking 6pm till 8am only £1 and all day £6

Good location on the quay-side. But everywhere within walking distance stopped serving food by 9.00pm ?

The hotel is in a wonderful location, if you book a room with a sea view you really couldn't be much closer to the sea, the bed was comfortable and the room furnishings were reasonably good. Having said that there was a musty smell and the carpets were stained, there were cracks in the bathroom wall around the window which you could not open, only one window in the bedroom could be opened the other hand the handle removed and was screwed shut. We paid for a superior room with sea view, and as I say the view was superb, and the bed comfortable, the photos I had seen of these rooms had a balcony, it turns out that not all superior sea view rooms do though, so I felt a little misled.
The breakfast is a buffet style with only scrambled eggs, although the chef offered to do me some fried eggs which was nice of him, the rest of the food was so so, only cornflakes, muesli and weetabix available for cereal, although there was also fruit and yoghurt, the coffee was nice. In short I would not go again unless this hotel went through an extensive refurb.

We stayed for my partners birthday. Room could of done with a lick of paint but other than that no problems at all. Food in the restaurant wasnt worth the price at all. Staff and swevice was good and we throughly enjoyed it

Sadly very below average. Room only cleaned once despite make up room notice on door. Bulbs missing, no soap in dispenser.

We did enjoy our stay. For a superior room, but On arrival, the room we were issued was certainly anything other than superior but on speaking to Reception we were given an upgrade without too much force which also included a balcony and an amazing view St Mawes Bay. The hotel is in prime location but it does need upgrading. You can see that they are starting the process. Parking was readily available if not right next to the hotel really not too far to walk. I would recommend stay in this hotel, but I would either go for one of the superior rooms with the balcony or to ask for an updated room

The staff were lovely and the views from our room across the estuary were beautiful.

Staff were lovely hotel over all was pleasant enough but could do with a lick of paint and a refresher in some areas

Unfortunately the room was not ready when we arrived at 16:00, with the note that we would be informed when the room was ready, in the meantime a coffee was offered.
On request, after an hour's wait, our room was ready - the room had a nice view of the harbour, but the taste in the coffee was not necessarily intoxicating! The carpets should definitely be changed
The bathroom was great and the fittings were modern. Customer service has room for improvement

Fabulous location right on the waterfront. Room was small (but requested a single room) but clean. Obviously had a refurb recently. Furniture, including bathroom, looked quite new.

Carpets worn smell of smoke dirty windows room dusty 103 dated needs a revamp
3.0
Room smelt of someone having smoked (cigarettes) in it.
The carpets in the hotel looked tired.
The shower was very weak (water pressure?) .
The bed was comfortable but the pillows were like concrete!
We had a balcony 2 of the chairs were totally unusable as they were very rusty.
Yes I know it's by the sea!

Cheap and great location. You get what you pay for!!

This hotel certainly has character, but it could definitely do with updating. Room was basically clean apart from a few shabby bits around the shower and wash basin. People working there were very friendly. Breakfast was on the average side. Needs more fruit and cereal. Cooked choice very limited especially for vegetarians. More exciting bread for toast and pastries would have been welcome.

Appalling. Room and numerous others not ready for 3pm. Check in.

Nice room with good amount of space, two issues for us were poor water pressure and lots of noise from the pub outside of the window

Lovely location and nice Lounge, Bar & Breakfast areas - very comfortable.
