Absolutely Amazing

Really nice boutique hotel. Very comfortable, cool vibe. Good location. Convenient bar restaurant on first floor and roof top bar as well. Would definitely stay again!

Hotel Kilbourne is a unique, boutique hotel with just 9 rooms right on the waterfront in Sandusky. It has an eclectic, artsy decor and a cute little bar and restaurant on-site. We didn’t get to try the rooftop bar (it was closed the day we were there) but the other bar/restaurant had a focus on Mexican food and an extensive tequila menu. Our room was billed as a “suite” and was very tiny. With a king-size bed and sofa (and mini fridge) squeezed in it, there was no room for a dresser OR closet. No problem if you were there for a quick trip, but if you were trying to hang up clothes for a longer stay or special occasion, it’s not possible. (The room did have four hangars on a hook.)I know the “industrial vibe” in the current style in hotels, but the super dark walls, floors, curtains, furniture and fixtures were too bleak.

After seeing pictures we were very excited about spending our 1 evening on rooftop balcony! The woman tending bar was rude, unaccomodating, unfriendly & bar was cobwebs, gnats & bees. She used basil instead of mint in my mojito. My husbands drink was undrinkable. We asked for fire features & she refused. Said she was closing early when a large party had just shown up. Paid more attention to her 2 friends at bar than customers.

Beds were cozy. Was hoping for more shops in downtown to par-ooze. . The remote to the fireplace and hair dryer did not work. Overpriced for the amenities and area. Has great potential.

Nice place. No room service and the rooms were small. Great location and lots to do.

Awesome view of the pier and lake. Very cute boutique hotel with restaurant/ nightlife.

Very interesting and unique hotel in a fun and lively area. Great restaurant downstairs and cute shops. Super friendly staff - great stay overall.

Had a really great experience!!! Gerri at the front desk was most helpful & super friendly!! Gave excellent suggestions on activities and food choices as well. The hotel restaurant Oh Taco is also very good!! Quick service, great selection of drinks, and even tasty food. We had lunch, dinner, and brunch here and all the food was top notch! The location is perfect as well, with good variety to walk to, plus the ferry picks up and drops off at the pier directly behind the hotel. I had a really great time for my first time in Sandusky and can't wait to rebook and visit again!

Absolutely amazing experience from check in to check out. Came for a couples trip and were blown away by how beautiful and private the property is, how luxurious snd beautiful the rooms are. The staff was amazing. So close to the pier. We also had a lake view. We will be back and we will be recommending to others.

Front Desk was wonderful! Got a little noisy around midnight from the bar upstairs but it was just one guy and he quieted down after a bit. Amazing shower and great view. Beds were like a giant pillow and hugged me to sleep. Great experience!

The Hotel Kilbourne has a great location. It is modern and clean. However, We stayed for two nights, our room was not cleaned and we were not given fresh towels. We were paying over $250 per night, and we chose a hotel instead of an Air B&B, because there is a standard of service and accommodation that you can expect from a hotel. We did not get this. We were not told to expect that our room would not be cleaned (sometimes during Covid this was the case) and we did not have the “do not disturb” sign on the door. When I went down to the lobby the receptionist was pleasant but said that they don’t always clean because they don’t want to disturb the guests. She had to go get me towels, got the wrong type/number of towels, went back to correct her mistake, came back a second time with the correct towels, and then I carried the towels up the elevator to our room. This is unprofessional and it was inconvenient. We liked the hotel but expected better for the price.

The room was as beautiful as advertised & the staff could not have been more friendly -- Loved meeting you, Kylie!

Rooftop bar was great

This hotel was amazing. Our room was large with a well stocked mini snack bar with pop, water, some alcoholic beverage options and snacks. The room had a view of the pier that’s right across the street- a great place to go relax by the water. There is a Mexican restaurant on the main level that had great food, and there is also a rooftop-bar, but that was closed when we were there. The hotel is beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable. The only downfall is the noise level when the restaurant is open. You can hear the music but they provide earplugs by the bed, so that was a nice touch. That was not a deal breaker for us and if we are ever back in the area we will be staying here again! Beautiful property.

Nice place for a quick getaway

Booked a room on a Sunday for Monday. Had to cancel. They would not refund my money due to the fact I didn’t give them a three day notice.

Any help I could get would be appreciated.

Great location within in walking distance of piers and restaurants. My room had a beautiful view of Lake Erie. Staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the bed and pillows were extremely soft and uncomfortable. For the price of the room I was disappointed.
4.6
This was not acceptable at all. We were left in the place by ourselves . No one else was checked into the hotel . Staff left after the bar closed . Elevator stopped working once . If I knew we were locked in alone, we would not stay here

Beautiful, well appointed hotel. Will definitely stay again.

The property is as advertised and the staff are nice, BUT what they dont tell you is:
If you are on the third floor you can hear the upstairs bar people stomping around!
You can hear literally everyone else on your floor because the walls are paper thin!
The amenities in the room are a complete ripoff!
I liked that the hotel was dog friendly until the dogs were running around and barking for hours at night!
$700 mistake! We will not recommend or return.

The Kilbourne was clean, quaint, and comfortable. By far the fluffiest towels we’ve seen since COVID - thank you, Kilbourne, for spoiling us!!
Geoffrey at the front desk was kind, welcoming, and helpful. His dinner & breakfast suggestions were perfect. Oh Taco served wonderful street tacos and their margaritas did not disappoint. Mr. Smith’s Coffee House was a delightful place to get breakfast. Thanks for the recs Geoffrey!!
The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. A truly wonderful experience!

Excellent boutique hotel!!

I’ll get the good out of the way real quick then the bad. The good was that the room does look nice with an electrical fireplace. The “Lake View” is ok but not as exciting as it sounds. The staff was friendly as well and the rooms are very clean.
The bad, first I will start off saying that some of the pictures you see on Expedia are not what you get. Like the rainfall showerhead as an example. There is a bar below you the blares music till 2-3am so if you’re looking for a relaxing stay, I would pick somewhere else. They will not tell you about loud music until the day before in an e-mail in fine print to where you can see it but it is there. On the day of, they will tell you when you get there and provide earplugs. No, they will not cancel your room or refund you so you’re stuck in a room where you will not sleep and people getting drunk right below you.
Bottom line, if you’re looking to get smashed and go to bed in a fancy looking room, then Hotel Kilmore is right for you. If you’re looking for relaxation, trust me, save that money and go somewhere else. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.

Squeaky bed, not comfortable! AC was loud, constant humming throughout the night (and it never went into automatic mode, once it reached the desired temperature). There was no phone in the room, to call the front desk, etc…., very inconvenient (I had to walk down to the front desk)! As much as the room cost ($320 ), I expected better accommodations!

Everything was awesome

Second stay after seven years. Still a great boutique hotel. Clean, friendly staff, fun bar on the premises.

Had a great time and the room was great, definitely recommend to anyone looking for something unique and local while visiting the area.

Perfect stay for Bike week.
Hotel is super cute and staff is very friendly.

We choose a room with the city view because we didn’t plan to stay in the room much. There are outdoor restaurants and a bar along the strip. It was fun for a Tuesday night! We didn’t eat at the restaurant inside the hotel but down the street. The bed was comfortable room was nice. We will stay there again. The strip is where to stay if you don’t have under age kids.

Quick overnight stay in a stylish and thoughtfully well appointed room. Restaurant was good and enjoyed the view of the Lake from our room.

Very unique hotel. Can’t wait to go back. Beautiful decor.

Wonderful room (The Loft) with great amenities and a very helpful staff. Wonderful style and design. Very clean and stylish.

Only feedback would be the need for an ice machine. Otherwise a really cool spot!

I think the hotel is a nice boutique hotel however I don’t think we are the clientele they appeal too. The bar next to the restaurant was very loud when we checked in, and led us to believe if we wanted a quiet dinner that it wasn’t going to be there.
And, Not sure if it was just our room but it was very clearly tailored to one thing- which wasn’t sleeping— if you know what I mean. We had room 21 - it was very small- barely enough room for the bed. The art on the walls was very very suggestive. (We are not prudish- we live in Ann Arbor and actually recognized the artist from the art fair - but we’re not prepared for a room full of naked women’s bodies artfully presented with black shadow lines resembling a zebra. Also there was a neon sign above the bed which didn’t turn off. My husband said you could probably unplug it- but because I didn’t find where to do this it was on all night right above my head and I didn’t sleep very well.
Everything was very clean, the quality of the bed, linens, decor was at the boutique level we were looking for but the style was not as expected and it is all good if they are going for that kind of adult only clientele but they should clearly say that on their site.
My husband said he read a review that a family with children were turned away after they had reservations because they didn’t allow children. — If you don’t set expectations you are setting yourself up for failure and I do want to see them be successful. The downtown needs it.

Hotel staff was very nice. The room had the most squeaky mattress I ever slept on. Instead of heap of plush towels in the chain hotel, we got only 2 bath- and 1 hand towel, and some of them had frayed hems, so we had to go and ask for more towels.
The hotel does not have designated parking, it’s free city parking in downtown Sandusky.

Wonderful people and excellent service.
