Not the best stay, overall. The key system is cumbersome, there was no air conditioning for a stuffy room. Noisy on account of construction outside. Not enough towels.

They dont have AC even though their site says they have AC and there is AC system they never fixed it so they tell you there is no AC. It was miserably hot. Location is good.

This is a very quirky little hotel. The rooms are clean and the staff I found to be very polite and helpful. One problem there is no A/C and in the summer heat a little fan is not cutting it to cool you down. We personally dropped unlucky with the smell. They were cleaning the drains outside the property and the smell went right through the hotel. Luckily that was our last day. The restaurant downstairs is pretty cool. Staff are very polite and helpful. Its a great location in the heart of Zurich but the hotel itself is a little dated. Still had a great time in Zurich though so no complaints.

In the song Hotel California, the Eagles think to themselves "This could be heaven or this could be hell"...and there's no question that this version of the Hotel California is in some circle of hell. The two stars are for the location - it's good and very convenient - and the pictures of the sleeping accommodations being a fairly accurate representation of them. However, pictures only tell part of the story. What you don't see includes a lack of air conditioning - the windows open and there is a small fan in each room - and the noise. There's a bar downstairs that was quite loud quite late, not to mention its foul odor that permeates through the elevator/stairwell. On a hot night, you're left to decide to sleep in the heat or with the noise. The bathroom also left a lot to be desired - the sink didn't drain properly, the water temperature was completely erratic, and there was hair in the tub when we arrived. It also wasn't cheap! I don't know how the hotel has been rated as highly as it has been...strongly encourage you to find somewhere else!

It all you care about is having a clean room, this place is absolutely fine. Beyond that, it doesn’t have much to offer. The front door is always locked (which makes sense once you check in, but not when you arrive). The staff was not overly accommodating, but weren’t rude either. We requested to have an extra 15 min in our room after check out because it was pouring and we had to wait outside for our driver for the airport….we were told very rudely that we would not be allowed an extra 15 minutes and the housekeeping knocked on our door and tried to come in 5 minutes prior to check out. Overall, we spent 7 nights in Switzerland in Zurich, Lucerne, and Zermatt. Every other hotel (including another in Zurich) was the complete opposite experience for my family and I, which probably made this review a little tougher than if this were the only hotel we stayed in.

The room was a good size with a decent bathroom and good facilities. The key system was easy to understand and the property was easy to access. The location is great and quite central, with lots of nice food options and things to see nearby, as well as a tram stop close by to get to destinations further away. Whilst it didn’t ruin the experience, we could hear quite a lot of noise whilst in our room, both from outside the building and from the rooms next to us and the hallway. That was the only downside to an otherwise very pleasant experience, and the location made up for it.

Great hotel located in a very centric area, the room was very cleanand modern. Staff was polite and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Zurich.

Our stay was OK but I was not aware that the rooms don’t have air conditioning and it was very warm during our visit. On the second night, they provided small fans which helped a bit. Friendly and polite staff, and excellent location.

The place was located in great area. Easy for shopping, food and walking. Staff was helpful and friendly. The day we arrived was raining and we were not prepared. Restaurant is located below the hotel. Definitely would recommend to stay there.

Polina was very helpful, all hotel staff very pleasant. Public transportation stop 2min walk from hotel, short ride to airport by public transportation. Beds comfy and room as advertised. Big rooms we stayed in Malibu room

The desk clerk patiently waited for us past the usual check in time since we blindly took the train and walked 10-15 minutes to the hotel. Little did we factor in the steps taken with 6 luggages. We loved how convenient it was!

The location was amazing. The hotel was just okay. Very nice people at reception and the maid. The room was tight, less than a foot from the foot of the bed to the tv on the wall. Not at all as pictured. We also picked it for laundry access, but we errored because it was send out, and it would be done the day after tomorrow. We washed in the sink.

Hotel California was pretty much as advertised. It was a nice room in the downtown area. The service was good and the room was clean. We did have to park a few blocks away but that was expected. It was a little difficult to find the hotel initially while driving but that's not the fault of the hotel. It was not a free breakfast so we went to the Starbucks less than a block away.

We arrived 20 min early and was told to wait 30 min before we could check in. The young lady didn’t even check my name. 20 min later I asked a young man and he picked up the paperwork that had been sitting on the desk all along. Not a great start. Room was very small but clean. No A/C so I wouldn’t stay during the summer for sure! Location is really great - walking distance to lots of cool stuff. Overall: great location, very small, expensive

Hotel California was a wonderful stay in Zurich near many city hot spots and about a 10min walk from the train station. Marta at reception was incredible. Our trains were delayed over an hour causing us to arrive around 23:00. She personally stayed for us at the hotel to ensure we were able to get into our rooms despite arriving after normal check in hours. The hotel was great and met all of our needs for a wonderful time in Switzerland.

Hole in the wall hotel— no AC, no parking— BUT very friendly staff, amazing location. Good for budget travelers, young travelers, couples with no kids (hence luggage).

Was charged twice for the full cost of the room. Paid cash in full for room at stay, after checking out was billed FULL amount again on credit card (540 CHF). Hotel California refused to refund. Hotels.com would not assist. Service is terrible and unorganized. Front desk was extremely rude and only there limited hours. I notified the hotel via email that I would be arriving early at 11:30 AM. When I arrived, I called via the intercom and greeted the person in German. The woman who answered then started yelling at me through the intercom in German; everyone in the street and at the restaurant below could hear. Eventually another guest let me in. When I went to the reception desk, she was sitting in the back room and ignored me for some time before she finally came out. She did not even greet me or ask my name, just grabbed my bag and said "I'll see you at 3" and went back into the office. Check in that afternoon was very slow as they asked everyone to come at the same time. They had papers all over the desk and seemed confused whether people had paid for their rooms. They could not find my bag anywhere. They then went to knock on the doors of the other guests to ask if they had taken my bag. They asked any guest with blue luggage whether they had taken my bag by mistake. The staff accused other guests of stealing luggage because they were too unorganized to keep track themselves. So unprofessional! AC was not working well, internet was spotty. Only upside is the location.
