This is basic accommodation but it was extremely clean and very comfortable. Excellent location, very central and very near an excellent cafe for breakfast. I would like to particularly mention the lovely family who run the Hostal. They were extremely kind and helpful. I would be happy to stay there again.

I was disappointed when I arrived as the location is poor. It is neither in the old town nor the playa resort. It is 2.5 km from the beach and about 1.5km from the old town. It is functional and it was a stop off fo is driving to Andalucía. You could do so much more with this place but no money has been spent on it for many years. Painting old doors and wardrobes would make a huge difference to the place. I am not sure if people live there full stone or not but in the morning , there were about 20 men sitting in the back yard car park eating , it wasn’t the cafe out the front where you would expect to see people eating. It’s a tired property next to supermarkets on outer road of town but it was clean and the check in staff were nice.€110 for 2 rooms for the night do similar price to an IBIS but not the same standard.

I actually spent 16 nights at the Tropical which went without a hitch. It’s a budget hostel and fairly basic however the whole place is very clean and the room service was excellent. Oliva is a small town, it’s relatively quiet and very safe. The hotel is about a mile from the beach which isn’t an issue once you get used to the walk although in peak summer you need to leave early and come back late as the sun can be pretty fierce. The distance makes it unrealistic to think of carrying chairs or sun shades which, if I’m honest, you really need, especially peak season (it can get quite windy down on the beach and your towel will quickly disappear under a layer of fine sand!!!!). Positives are definitely location. It’s really central and right next to several cafes and some excellent restaurants where the food is inexpensive but very tasty. For everything else it’s right next to Lidl and only a few mins walk from Mercadona.. Be aware that there is no coffee or tea making facilities (you can buy a little kettle for 8 euros though). There is also no access to a balcony (well not that I saw) so it can feel a bit claustrophobic after a while. I had a little car through my stay and didn’t find parking an issue but I can imagine that if you were travelling peak season things could be quite difficult. They do offer parking for €8.50 a day though so if you were only staying a couple of nights that would be an option but for longer stays it’s sonething you need to consider.
