Stayed here for a 2 night break. Friendly welcome and a lovely room (The Hayloft). Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit and cereal to start and a nice home cooked breakfast. Great touch with having a toaster on the table to toast the delicious bread and enjoy the marmalade. Breakfast was efficient with no waiting. Liz and John have a delightful place for a stay.

Situated just off the main road (A1120), this proved to be a homely and relaxing place to stay, within easy reach of the Suffolk coast around Dunwich. Clearly signposted, with ample car parking, a wholesome farmhouse breakfast and a lovely quiet garden, this was a real home from home. I took the single room in the old stable. This was neat, clean and cosy and had its own en suite with a powerful hot shower. Well recommended!

Stayed in the Squires room. You have to go up several narrow steps to get to the room but once there it’s lovely and clean, bed comfortable, just the right size. Breakfast was freshly cooked each morning, comes with cereal, fresh fruit and toast. Only downfall was some cereal or sauces were out of date. Made the owners aware as they may not have known. I’m sure all will be put right and I’d like to say we would stay again.

The owners are VERY UNFRIENDLY and have a shockingly UNCARING attitude to their guests.
I was stranded in a flooded road only 3 minutes away from their hotel and the owners did nothing to help me, a female traveller on my own. The lack of care and lack of communication was utterly appalling. So upset I had the misfortune to book up this hotel.

We stayed in the Little Maid's Room for just one night. Very comfortable room, with low ceilings and sloping floor - typical of the period (16th century!).
The stairs up to this room are very steep - not a problem for us but would be for many, so worth checking access.
Low ceilings meant that it has a bath but no shower.
Breakfast was "full English" - just what you need to set you up for the day. Great location to explore Suffolk!

Colston hall is owner run and the setting is superb, beautiful lake and tucked away in a quiet corner of the countryside. Because the owners live there there’s no reception so be sure to call if you have a later check in then 6:30. Bathroom seems recently refurbished, in my room one of the beds wasn’t made up which was fine as I was travelling solo for business. Couldn’t hang clothes in the wardrobe because of all the cobwebs so had to hand them from the ceiling, also lots and lots of cobwebs and dust in the bedroom, like balls of it. The beds and linens are very old lumpy and hard but the sheets were clean. I also could’ve done with an extra towel for a two night stay. Breakfast was nice the first day but the second morning I left at 8am and breakfast isn’t served until 8:30 so I missed out. Worth noting if you have an early start.

Many thanks. Would definitely stay there again.

Lovely relaxing countryside venue. Warm welcome, really comfortable night's sleep in a charming countryside spot. Excellent value for money, if a tad difficult to find! Will look to return.

The "tack room" was very comfortable, clean and cosy. It's not "a room with a view" but still light and airy (there's so much to visit in the area that all I wanted to do was fall asleep anyway.) Breakfast was good and the hosts were friendly. I'm not sure that I needed more?

Colston Hall is a lovely place, very peaceful and the room we were in was nice and quirky. Room and bathroom were kept nice and clean. Breakfast was delicious and it was nice to have your own toaster at your table.
It would have been nice to have some information in the room about the facilities such as towel changing and local amenities. Tourist information leaflets were available but some were over 7 years out of date. These are minor criticisms but ones which guests often find useful.
Yes, we would stay here again.

We both had a lovely stay in the annexe of the farmhouse, it was quiet. The room and bathroom were clean. We were made welcome by the hosts. The breakfast was of good standard in a pleasant room with excellent views.

Quiet and peaceful in lovely rural surroundings. The breakfast setting with fresh fruit, juice and cereals on the table was beautifully arranged. The shower was easy to operate, fully enclosed and there was immediate hot water - having stayed in many hotels before where this was not the case - this was something greatly appreciated.

A comfortable stay in a lovely quiet setting. A beautiful part of the country. We used it as a base and visited Woodbridge, Framlingham, Orford and Aldeburgh. I would recommend booking to eat in the evening as many places we contacted were fully booked.

This is a stunning place to stay, well in keeping with the stunning surroundings that Suffolk provides. It is, to me, located in the perfect spot to explore what Suffolk has to offer. The place is clean, well decorated and in immaculate condition. I cannot fault it.However: please note that I have not deducted a single star from my rating, but I have to add to this review that we did not feel welcomed by the owners. They may have had an off day, we all do, but to me this is reason enough to never stay here again, regardless of how beautiful the place is. We felt as if they did not want us there, so we won't be bothering them again.
