Initial room was flooded with leak in the bathroom from floor above.
When I arrived at reception I stood for 5 mins before being acknowledged from bar staff.
General cleanliness of tables, carpets, and who place was tired and old.
When ordering food at the bar my first 4 choices were not available.

Room was spacious and quiet. Bed comfortable Good nights sleep. Easy parking. About a mile from centre of Chester.

A basic room but clean and not too small. We were judging stopping off en route to somewhere else so it was perfect for our needs. Friendly staff

This is a pub with rooms and while loving football, I was initially concerned about the number of TVs in the pub area. Definitely a popular locals pub. However, the property is run very well, with a strict 11.30pm out policy. It was a Friday night and by 11pm there were only a few stragglers left who could have been staying. The rooms were very good value for money, clean and comfy beds. Our party had two rooms, all slept really well and we commented how quiet it was. Only thing to note from an accessibility point of view our rooms had showers over baths. Staff were friendly and polite. Thank you for a relaxing night ready for a uni tour on the Saturday.

We had a lovely time, friendly, helpful staff, good location with a short walk into Chester but on the way I would recommend a stop in Hoole high street, I would stay here again

For £75 and for one night it was perfect. I like the busy aspect of the pub downstairs. Typical Hungry Horse so you know what you are getting. Loads of TV's with the football on. Nice pint, and typical pub grub.
Hotel aspect is a bit different. Nothing like a holiday inn or Premier in, but perfectly acceptable for the price. Not a place for a romantic weekend, but for a night at work ok. I was in Room 5 which was probably the largest physical room I have ever seen. Bed was comfortable, but duvet was thinner than I would have liked.
Little bit tired around the edges, but again for the cost all ok and free parking. Breakfast was limited, but for £9 I left feeling full. I would stop again.

The Oaklands is a nice hotel with a great bar and beer garden. It is relatively close to the centre, you can walk. The room is nothing special but everything works. Easy to park.

The room was excellent! Great bed and spacious room! It needed an elevator. Way too many stairs for my husband and I. The food downstairs was great for the price!

Good location

Great place to stay a short walk into town. Great sized room and lovely beer garden. The only issue was that breakfast did not include any cold drinks e.g. water or juice

Overall out stay was good, staff were friendly and really helpful, food waa great, room comfortable but....lots of paint chipping off the wall which waa really unsightly! Bathroom great, would stay again ut definitely not in room 11 unless redecorated!
4.3
Great location with ample parking. Not many premises in Chester have so many TV screens with the bar atmosphere and a very good food menu. Some beers where off but still plenty of options to choose from. I will be staying there next year on the corresponding weekend with my friends from 50 years ago.

Jemma bar lovely - breakfast great - food reasonable - upgraded to room 10 however no drawers or wardrobe 3 hangers on wall exposed pipes made room hot - bathroom updated good - You could save on electricity as tvs and lights on early morning in lounge etc could turn off and section areas for eating am. Varnish on tables and other areas could be painted regularly for max effect. Tables sticky cleaning fluid perhaps/ however staff and all else fine. Comments for benefit of yourselves as worked in leisure all working life. Minimum attention for maximum rewards Thanks

Pub/hotel was fine.
I usually think you get what you pay for but the room we had wasn't up to scratch & hotel was full so couldn't change rooms.
Small room - no problem.
Paint flaking off walls - problem.
Single glazed window- problem. Massive water pools every morning from condensation, running down the wall.
Wardrobe - no wardrobe, just a wall bracket with a few hangers but not a big issue.
Lovely bathroom apart from the shower curtain pole was stuck together with gaffer tape & the complimentary toiletries consisted of a tube of hand wash covered in someone elses makeup.
Hot water pressure is non existent so don't try having a bath!
Housekeeping staff where lovely as were the hotel/pub staff.
It was lovely and warm though.

Location is good for either Chester Zoo or the old town, 20 minutes walk, room is well presented, positives are the big modern pub on ground floor, with 20% off food for those staying in the hotel and free onsite parking, the only slight negatives are the thin partition walls with other rooms and the gap at the door, causing it to bang from the draught each time somebody is passing through the corridor and using the front door.

First impression was that of a busy pub and wondered about comfort. Room was a little tired (understand they are going through a refurb) but ours was obviously still to so as there was flaking paint and a bare patch on the wall. It was also a little on the small side but then was only a base. Couldn't hear the pub, though one or two of the residents were noisy when coming back from a night out partying (but not the hotels fault).
On the positive, you couldn't fault the staff - they couldn't do enough for you and were always friendly and courteous - particularly Emma who was on the breakfast shift who went out of her way to help with our needs. Food was good value and tasty and discount for staying added further value. Good base for a comfortable stroll into Chester (so avoiding the one way system and parking charges)
Would we stay again? Possibly, once all rooms refurb'd (and avoiding Horse Race weekend)

Its was okay, i was disappointed with the room. The white sheets had some minor staining but the major issue was it seemed to have a wasp issue. There were 4 in the room when we entered, all on the windowsill. We got rid of them but more appeared by morning, i think they had a wasps nest in the wall behind the radiator as the plaster was coming away leaving a hole in the wall.
They seem to like using tape to fix things, the window vent in the bathroom was being kept in place by tape and the light shade had tape around it and you could see lots of dead bugs in the light shade. We didn't spend much time in the room and only stayed one night so it was sufficient.
The staff were all friendly and the service was quick. Food was good.

Despite the hotel being in a busy pub, once you were in your room you could not hear any noise from the pub itself. The room was clean and comfortable and very good value for money.

Single night, two rooms, good value for money and great location for Chester Zoo. Rooms refurbed recently and very clean and well equipped. Restaurant downstairs cheap and cheerful and staff pleasant and onhand to help. No issues, would consider staying again.

The staff were really friendly , the food is great value for money, the room was a bit on the small side and the bed was too small as a double ( only 4ft)

Check-in was very slow as person was unfamiliar with how to do this so had to ask for assistance.
The room was on the ground floor but the window had no security measures so on what was a very hot not, I felt the window needed to be shut.
The doors to rooms are very heavy and bang, causing a lot of disturbance.
Rose petals found under the bed so clearly hadn’t been hoovered very well.
I don’t often write a negative review, but was disappointed with this stay. I suppose the price reflects the quality.
Finishing on a positive.... the location is ideal for Chester city centre.
