Quiet from the street and carpark
The outside staircase

It was clean and it was cheap
Noisy air conditioning units right outside one room window which was noisy all night, a wall outside the other one. Sash window rattled all night and every time the door was opened. The gap was so big we had to use the door stop to stop the rattle.

The location was great, the bedding was simple but comfortable and clean
We weren't aware it was a hostel style booking and had only a bed in the room and when we got to our venue we were advised we had to check in at a different location than the actual accommodation venue over the road, which we didn't mind other than it was late at night and we were tired and would have been nice to know so we could go directly to the check in and then our room. Also there is no tea or coffee facilities available and you have to provide your own, which again ok but the room cost was a bit expensive for that we got. (we stay at hostels also but not for this price)

There was a bar, cafe and restaurant down stairs. All the staff were lovely, as were the cleaning staff, who appeared to work very hard.
As a solo female, I felt a bit uncomfortable sharing facilities with all the construction workers. They seemed polite and respectful, but I still felt vulnerable. There were keys to access the accomodation from the street, but the kitchen door was left wedged open, allowing anyone access from the hotel carpark.
The accomodation was more like a workers hostel and the room decor reflected that. The room furniture consisted of a good bed, a suitcase stand and a roughly constructed wooden structure with 3 compartments, one of which was padlocked. I presume one of the workman uses this room Mon to Fri.
The bathroom and toilets were in need of renovation. The communal kitchen was unclean and I had to remove a plate with a chicken carcass, from the microwave, before I could use it. Upstairs maintenance does not match the bar / restaurant downstairs, which is amazing. Next time, I'll upgrade to the Astor across the road, with the same owners. Wish me luck!

Great value for money and central location. They've clearly prioritised the important things like a hot shower with good pressure, clean sheets and comfy beds. As long as you don't mind simple rooms and a shared bathroom you'll be right.

Historic hotel. There were facilities to make your own breakfast. Close to restaurants, shops. Clean. comfortable bed.Nice place for a drink and some eats down stairs.
The room only had a bed and TV in it. The doors banged., but there were only 2 other guests. Shared toilet and bathroom. (It was fine though.)

affordability, close to our intended destination.
bathroom was hygienic but plastic bags etc were left behind by other hotel guests. The window was taped over with aluminium foil and a cupboard had mutiple stains on it. I cant make out where the stains originate from.

The location was perfect, the place is just above a very nice bar and the street has many great dinner places

The shared bathroom is in poor to fair condition; the shower rose broke off and obviously had been damaged for some time; there could be a little more cutlery in the kitchen - was almost nothing; floors are a bit noisy as were the doors - some soft closes or foam strips in the door jambs would help
