The Grand Hotel des Estrangers is a beautiful hotel perfectly located in the Ortigia section of Syracuse. The building is beautiful and the renovations are very stylish. The breakfast was excellent and the rooftop bar and restaurant are quite nice. The staff is high professional and friendly. We had massages at their Spa which were top notch. The gym is adequate. Good luck if you need to change large euro bills for smaller denominations, we asked once or twice every day and were often unable to get it from the front desk. I know it’s not a bank but it’s a reasonable request.

Perfectly located with breathtaking views of the sea. Staff was excellent. Only issue we had was it took over 45 minutes to get our car from the valet parking and I almost missed my train in Siracusa because of it.

The hotel was in a great location of Ortigia and the staff were very helpful. However, the hotel was not at a 5 star level. Management of the hotel and staff seemed to be lacking at times. Also, the room we booked did not appear to be the one assigned to us but they were able to resolve it.

Stepping into the hotel lobby was like stepping through a time travel portal. High ceilings, beautiful artwork, and gracious lines. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful with restaurant recommendations, tours, and directions. Breakfast was abundant and options for every kind of taste and diet.

The room for 2 was so incredibly small , we could barely move around: The people working at the hotel were absolutely wonderful, helpful and friendly.. but logistically the room was so tiny and it was not laid out well at all. For the amount of money we were paying it simply was not worth it. We however very much liked the hotel personnel:

Very nice city hotel. Hotel is well-situated for exploring Ortigia. Room, with a view of the water, was quite nice and very clean. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast buffet was as expected for a property of this caliber. Hotel is located within restricted zone, so it was possible to drive to hotel but then necessary to valet park (at 50 Euros/day). We also walked to the archeological park and museum in Siracusa although this was quite a ways. There is a rooftop outdoor lounge that has a view but seems too hot for afternoon use and a bit too cool for the evening during our late October visit. We highly recommended this hotel.

It was our best hotel experience in Sicily so far. The hotel is beautifully decorated with Art Deco style. I highly recommend a room with sea view because the sunset from the balcony is super romantic. The staff was lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was delicious with both buffet and à la carte options (not included). We benefited from a free access to the spa (depends on the category of the room) and we really enjoyed the aromatic showers. The hotel is perfectly situated on Ortigia, so close to everything to visit. I would stay definitely here again!

Property is beautiful and staff were very helpful. The hotel does not have a pool nor sun beds. This was very disappointing. Also bathroom configuration was terrible. Shower very small with no shelves. Door banged into the toilet. Having a bathtub was a waste of space.

Worst service I have ever had. We booked a room for three people and were given a room with one bed...the staff was not helpful at all in facilitating solutions...no extra beds were offered, no change of rooms in spite of having plenty of availability...everyone in the staff was super rude including the manager the next morning....we moved out and of course vowed never to come back to this hellhole.

This hotel definitely needs a refurb. It’s NOT 5 star hotel. The room we were in was old and tired. The bed was uncomfortable and pretty much a stretcher bed. The floor was dirty and hadn’t been mopped. There was a 2 hour power outage in the hotel and our room swipe didn’t work so we had to sit and wait to get into our room and didn’t even get offered a drink.

Extremely loud music and partying right outside of hotel till 3am. Air conditioning was very inadequate. Do not eat at restaurant- service horrible and very average food. The only positive is the exquisite location but not worth losing sleep over.

This hotel is in a great location but is definitely not five star. It needs a full update of its rooms and facilities. The breakfast is very average and the service is poor. I ordered a beer and some nuts. What I received was a warm beer and stale nuts. Also the minibar has nothing in it. The doors and window in the room were stuck and would not close properly which mean all the noise would come in. Finally the shower is dirty and old.

Sad hotel - obviously was very good in its day but is now tired and needs a major refurbishment. Our room was a Superior room overlooking the sea. The bathroom was in need of a total refurbishment with even the bath plug not fitting properly along with numerous holes in tiles. Was nice to overlook the sea but the noise at night until late was not good.The hotel whilst beautiful in parts just felt soulless and not looked after properly.

Clean hotel, convenient walking to everything in Ortigia. Lobby not very comfortable for lounging but excellent rooftop bar in the evening. Spa is very basic with really just a workout room, small pool, sauna, and a few rooms for spa service.

The hotel is very old and dated....not sure how it keeps a 5-Star rating. The Reception staff is nice and tries to be helpful. The roof top restaurant is very nice and the food is good. The night view with the lights on the water is pretty, but not magical as someone described it.
