We liked the property. However to communicate was a problem through the app. We received too many e-mails after responding to the first one.
Also two of the plugs in the unit was not working.
Another big problem was that there is no plug close to a mirror to blow dry hair.
Views were good and area is quiet. Parking is a bit tight.

I was very happy at One Calais, everything was clean and worked. Check in was simple and the room well fitted out. The apartment is in a nice area and very close to all the restaurant and shops in Sea Point. The only thing you guys need to invest in is a generator or solar. The load shedding is a pain.

This property should not be classified as a “luxury” stay. The images on the app are not a true reflection of the room in the basement that they put guests in. Stairs are narrow, doors not easy to open, room space too small

Completely miss sold this accommodation. I was in a basement room underneath the lobby, with a window looking out on the street which massively lacked privacy and for security not comfortable. There was no distinction in room types in the booking otherwise I would have chosen anything else

The property was very modern and the rooms are comfortable; great mattress and shower. However, there is no backup battery when power goes out (and SA has been having power issues for few years now); not even a backup battery for the WiFi or one light in the room. The door to my room was not working well; the doorknob had an issue, which management knew about but hadn't fixed it. My room was on the ground floor so when power went out in the night, I had to open the windows for fresh air, but there were no mosquito nets and it felt unsafe to leave the windows open (they did have bars on the windows but you're still on the street. The AC also wasn't cooling despite being on 16C so that needed to be fixed; the AC filter was also dirty so I had to wash it.

The property is comfortable, clean and a lovely swimming pool on top of the building.
Unfortunately, there is no loadshedding plan in place with no inverter nor minimum service, nor even backup lights in the room until asked.
This isn't mentioned on the page upon booking and should be today the minimum requirement vs hospitality - power cuts being a daily occurrence in SA (and nothing new), 4h at a time, it was rather inconvenient to be left in the dark in all manners.

I loved the views, the place was nice, private, quiet. What was challenging was communicating through Expedia, and the property management could not help unless you went through Expedia. Was frustrating and cost an extra day. T

This property was fantastic and value for money. As a general manager of luxury resorts in the Caribbean, I can only say that Ms. Portia at reception is the greatest asset this property has. She is vibrant, centered and a wealth of information and an absolute delight to engage dialogue with. Thank you, Ms. Portia, for making our stay more than what we hoped for.
