About this house rental
My house is located on a hillside close to the village of Mill Valley. There is a gorgeous master bedroom suite, with jacuzzi bath, a second bedroom with a queen bed and a daybed the living room. The house has a chef’s kitchen, elegant dining area, and a living room with cathedral ceilings and floor to ceiling windows .
The deck has lovely views of the valley. It is a perfect place to have your morning coffee.
It is an easy 8 minute walk to the village where you will find interesting shops, and lots of eclectic restaurants. Hiking trails are nearby and it is possible to walk from the house to the trails on Mount Tam.
It is 30 minutes drive into downtown San Francisco, Berkeley, and Stinson Beach. Muir Woods is ten minutes away unless you decide to hike in! The wine country is a 45 minute drive.
This is my house and I live here when not renting to guests.
If you are looking for a hotel experience, this is not it. I have a downstairs studio on the property with a separate entrance where I sometimes stay. I love to get to know my guests but respect their privacy.
There are many stairs up to the house so if you have trouble with stairs, this might not be a good place for you.
I share my house with my standard poodle,Gigi. She loves to get to know my guests and poodles are hypoallergenic!
Children are welcome.
I am a professional chef and the kitchen is equipped with state of the art appliances, and lots of cooking essentials. .The kitchen is well stocked and guests are welcome to cook and use whatever foods are in the cupboard. I always provide my guests with food and drinks for breakfast. I even cater a dinner for my guests once in a while.
Minimum 3 nights stay ok

I booked this property because it looked just beautiful in the pictures. But I have to say, it's more spectacular in person! It felt as though I was staying in a friend's home rather than a rental property. The house is beautifully decorated and there are redwood trees off the deck. (We enjoyed many bottles of wine on that deck enjoying the view :-).
The location of Mill Valley was the perfect spot (close to San Francisco, Muir Woods, Pacific Coast Highway, etc.).
The host was absolutely charming. She made us feel welcomed and gave us some tips for getting around. We enjoyed meeting her so much, we had dinner with her one night!
This property and host delivers on what it advertises. You won't be disappointed.

Joan is a terrific host, and she has a beautiful home. The view from the kitchen is spectacular, with a small redwood grove in the front yard and greater Mill Valley in the distance. The house is beautifully decorated throughout and very well-equipped. This was a great home base for us as we took on the famous Dipsea trail race.
One thing to note is that the driveway is extremely steep. We could not get our rental mini-van up there. There is ample street parking, but the road is very narrow. It all worked out fine for us, but it took a bit of getting accustomed to. At the end of the day, it was all part of the unique Mill Valley experience.

We loved this beautiful home, it made us feel like we were living back in Marin. Spacious, welcoming, beautiful views from the living room. Well-appointed kitchen. Overall, 5 stars, thanks so much!

The host was super gracious and accommodating. She offered helpful recommendations and made us feel very welcome. The property was perfectly located - so close to so much, just a perfect walk from downtown Mill Valley for dinner, and a short drive to San Francisco, and an even shorter drive to Muir Woods. And the area was beautiful - sunrises with coffee were spectacular!

Joan was a great host. Her house is beautiful and surrounded by beautiful redwoods. The property is as seen on the pictures, very charming with beautiful views. It was perfect for our vacation. Would highly recommend it. Thank you Joan for being a great host.

We had the best stay at this beautiful, old home in the redwoods. Gorgeous views from the spacious living room, and the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Five stars!

We loved our stay at this home in the trees in Mill Valley. The interior is lavishly decorated with travel mementos from around the world, and there are numerous plants both inside and out. We were unable to enjoy the deck due to heavy rainfall, but the sunroom was a lovely, cozy space to spend our downtime. Joan was an extremely helpful and gracious host. As others have noted, this is a VERY steep property and the stairs (50 total from street to door) can be slippery when wet. It was not an issue for us, but be aware if you have mobility issues. Also be aware that the single-lane road can be quite a squeeze when negotiating oncoming traffic. That being said, it's an easy walk into town through the narrow, winding streets. I definitely recommend staying at this hidden gem.

This treehouse was the perfect place for our group to converge for a couple of days of writing and hiking. The house is a short walk to town, and close to Muir Woods and Muir Beach. The kitchen was well stocked. The living room was comfortable with a bank of windows looking out at the tree. Just lovely.

Fabulous host! Unique, once in a lifetime experience living in a beautiful house high up among the redwood trees.

This place is every bit as beautiful in real life as it is in the photos, and even better. The entire neighborhood is enchanting, but Joan's property in particular has a stunning view and lovely sunrises with open space, the forest, and mountains in the background. The bed was comfortable and she left ample supplies for breakfast as well as a bottle of wine. Her eclectic art, lovely abundant indoor plants and her comfortable furnishings made us feel relaxed and content. The lovely town Of Mill Valley (full of friendly people and great restaurants ) the Muir Woods and beach are all just a few minutes away. She is warm and lively and communicated well. Her lovely poodle was just as nice as Joan and is clearly comfortable with new people. We miss her! We cannot wait to return!

This is a beautiful home with art objects all around. It was much more like being in the home of someone you know, because it’s someone’s home rather than a full time rental. The owner was on site which was nice, though we didn’t need anything. Walking to town was very easy. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Tree House. The location makes it easy to take day trips in any direction, however we found ourselves so comfortable that we didn't have the inclination to venture very far! This would be a great spot for families or two couples as long as everyone can negotiate the stairs. We enjoyed every minute ~

This is a lovely house in a lovely location.
A few aspects could be improved. The many steps from the street need better lighting. It would be nice to have the TV located in the living room rather than the bedroom and to have a TV that gets Netflicks and Amazon Prime.

This house is incredible. It's close to a myriad of trails and parks, making outdoor adventures easy. And the amenities -- kitchen and dining room especially -- made it easy to relax and unwind after a long day of hiking. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, too. Not a single fault, except perhaps for the steep driveway!

We highly recommend this rental for anyone who wishes to be perfectly situated to visit San Francisco, the wine country, and northern redwood forests. Mill Valley is a scenic town with great restaurants. This comfortable and spacious property offers a panoramic view.

Beautiful well provisioned house with windows and deck overlooking Mill Valley. Furniture and beds were comfortable/ Our Host was welcoming and helpful. She had laid out champagne and refrigerator was stocked with eggs, bagels, cream cheese, fruit and lots of useful things. The house is a short walk to some stairs to take you into downtown. Living area has no stairs but be prepared for some stairs to get to the house and into town. We only stayed two nights but would have loved to stay a week there. We hope it is available next time we stop in Mill Valley.

I stayed here with 2 teenagers and it was a great fit for us. The home is lovely and well equipped. Joan is wonderful. We could walk to the quaint Mill Valley downtown, and conveniently drive to San Francisco and all of the great places in Marin County. It helps to be or become comfortable with a narrow mountain road and steep driveway! There is construction across the street which should be completed soon! Overall, we would return next time we are in the area if looking for a retreat in the trees!

Joan is wonderful and she has a beautiful home in the trees. We loved our stay. Great view and red wood trees right out in front. Lovely home.
