About this villa rental
'Villa Lyss' is located in a tranquil and peaceful location in the village of Mellieha found in the northern part of Malta. This stylish apartment is set within an exclusive privately owned villa residence perched on a hilltop. The Island of Malta region Part 1: Malta – the very name conjures up thoughts of the George Cross and enough historical sights to keep you busy for a month. But there's so much more to this little beauty than a fascinating past. These days you're just as likely to hear about its film locations and nightlife as you are its history and culture.
The Hollywood swords 'n' sandals epics Troy, Gladiator and Alexander were all filmed on the island's sunny shores. World famous DJs are flocking here to spin some discs at the up-and-coming hotspots. But though Malta's image is changing fast, its breathtaking beauty remains one of the key things that draws people back year after year. Wherever you go, the island's eye-popping scenery provides a sigh-inducing backdrop. And as for all that history, with so much of the past still visible today, there's no wonder it's known as an open-air museum.
The Island of Malta region Part 2: Travel back in time to discover Malta's mysterious prehistory. Retrace the footsteps of St Paul. Or see where the Knights of St John defended Christendom. But Malta is no regular museum. Here life is lived to the full, so be prepared to get stuck into the Mediterranean way of life. Throw yourself into carnivals and make the most of the island's packed calendar of events. If you're looking for a destination that offers more than just a suntan, Malta's a first class choice and even more enjoyable when staying at Villa Lyss.
How To get there? Part 1: Flights to Malta
Flight time to Malta's International Airport from London airports is just 3-3½ hours. Other UK airports will be roughly 30 minutes longer. Malta is also served by numerous other large European airports and is very well connected.
Which airlines operate from UK?
AirMalta, Astraeus LT, British Airways, British Jet, European Aviation, Excel Airways, First Choice Airways, Hello Ltd, MY Travel Airways, Ryanair, Thomas Cook Airlines, Thomson Fly and from 31st March Easyjet

We enjoyed our stay a lot. The place is very spacious, perfect for a family. The garden and the swimming pool were extremely enjoyable. Moreover Ray is a fantastic host. We arrived late at night, some small snacks were available in the kitchen for the start. We only had a few days to discover Malta and Ray gave us some very useful hints how to optimise our stay. Always extremely friendly and helpful, he let us stay until the late afternoon on the last day as we had an evening flight again. Many thanks for everything, we would love to come back!

We had a wonderful stay in Mellieha. The accommodation was in a great location, only a short walk up the hill to catch the bus or for shopping. We enjoyed lounging by the pool when we weren’t out and about. Whilst we are out mostly the accommodation had a well set up kitchen.

We have just returned from a fantastic week in Malta. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ray and Maria who were the most amazing hosts, they did absolutely everything to make sure that we had a great holiday, arranging airport transfers, taking us to the supermarket and chemist and giving us great information about where to shop and eat. The apartment was spotless and very comfortable, the pool perfect, we often had it to ourselves!
Mellieha is a great town, loads of excellent restaurants, beautiful beach and lots to see and do.
Malta is a perfect choice for a family holiday and we can’t wait to return!

An excellent apartment, with a great communal swimming pool. The sunbeds around the pool were top quality.
Ray, the host, was very caring and organised a taxi to collect us from the airport on arrival and also drop us off at the airport when we left. He also provided us with a starter pack of tea bags, bread, milk butter and cheese, as we arrived very late the first day.
Travel by bus is easy, though busy. So getting to Valletta, Medina and the beaches was easy. Fares were fixed at 2 Euros per person.

Well looked after place. Quiet location yet perfect to explore Malta since it is a short drive to the beaches or ferry to Gozo. Il Mellieħa is a beautiful city. Restaurants and the cathedral are in walking distance.

We loved Malta. Millieha was the perfect place to stay, being a bit quieter, but also because it allowed us to access some great beaches, do day trips to the main sights and we were close to the ferry for Gozo.
The apartment was ideal for a family of four, clean, spacious and with a well stocked kitchen, comfortable accommodation and a lovely pool to keep the kids entertained. There were also nice views and a lovely garden so you're not overlooked by lots of other properties. There were a couple of excellent restaurants within walking distance. There were also shops and other facilities nearby. The neighbourhood seems very quiet and it was easy to park outside and to drive around the island.
The Debono family were very welcoming, helpful and nice to talk with, lending us a yoga mat, highlighting their favourite places and answering all our questions as they came up. I'd definitely recommend this property and with two other apartments in the same building it's suitable for bigger families/groups as an option.

We spent 5 days on Malta island in the one of Villa Lyss apartments. Our apartment was very clean and spacious with plenty storage space. We had a nice balcony which we used as a dining room with a beautiful view over the pool. Ray, the owner, was very nice and helpful, he tried to fulfil all our requests. Some previous reviewers mention old oven in the kitchen. I guess it was replaced, as the oven in our apartment was brand new and functioned perfectly. The kitchen had everything for the cooking (maybe just one more cutting board would be nice) and most necessary condiments and washing detergent. The minor flaw was the hot water pressure in the shower, especially in the evenings, but I read about this problem in many reviews about holiday apartments on Malta, I guess it is a common problem on the island. All in all we had a very nice stay, thanks a lot!!!!!
