The stay was good But the bed was awful Like sleeping on floor was so hard

Dining room was lovely, clean well looked after. Room had dirty walls and needed updating but the rest was mostly clean.

I arrived into Grimsby Night time.
I was followed by a hoodie on my way to the hotel, thankfully the entrance wasn’t far from the street.
Check in went very well.
On getting to my 2nd floor room as I walked through the corridors, I saw another male peeping at me from the corner of another corridor. It felt so unsafe.
The rooms have single locks keys and chains only. They could do with security locks.
My room was outdated with old carpets and furniture from the Victorian Era. It had a strong woody, stuffy, nicotine like smell. I had to keep the windows open throughout my stay.
Although the bed and linen were comfy, the bedside and lamp surfaces were dusty and the glass lamp holders had water marks.
The bathroom shower pressure was minimal. The toilet and bathroom, although clean, looked so old. There was an old dirty non slip mat in the bath tub. Having said that,I had some good sleep on all 3 nights booked. The area is quiet.
It’d be lovely if windows, interior decor and furniture were Morden/ refurbished.

Hotel hasn’t been updated since the 80’s but what do you expect for less than 50 quid
I must of been the only English speaking guest too

1st time for business, already booked for next trip.
Good all round and the food is very good quality.
All staff friendly

Comfertable, room was warm even with window open but good service.

Clean, tidy and close to town. Friendly, helpful staff, comfy beds and free parking for less than £50 a night. St James Hotel exceeded my expectations.

The issue with this hotel is not the staffing or overall condition, it is the surrounding area and in particular the local individuals who frequent the benches adjacent to the minster. I witnessed aggressive arguments, two women fighting, the agressor having several children and a pushchair with her as she assaulted another women, then at 03.00am a very loud couple with a dog and child on a scooter passing the hotel, shouting and screaming for fun. I checked out a day early and found something else.

It would help if the post code for the car Park was clearly shown. I spent ages going around in circles before a helpful member of staff put me right. The room was not too bad but I certainly had no intention of walking barefoot on the carpet, it was well beyond a need to be cleaned or replaced. For the size of the place the parking was insufficient and when I came to leave I found two idiots had blocked me in. I was unable to locate them via reception. another guest helped me.

Very easy super value for last minute stay

Hotel clean, staff good and friendly, but rooms need updating. The breakfast was poor, and buffet of hot food was virtually empty, had to ask staff to refill. The sausages were raw and returned to the staff

Good location, value for money, friendly service

Absolute fantastic time, great place and a beautiful view over Minster

Only issue was the heat in the room even with the window open

All good

Excellent location in the Centre of Grimsby for a one night stay. Free on site parking and straightforward check in. Excellent service and good breakfast. The rooms are a good size and well stocked. Clean but some fittings need renewing. Car park could do with an upgrade and the hotel in general is in need of redecorating.

I booked a last min booking for this hotel yesterday to stay yesterday, how ever within 1 hour before check in i received a ver upsetting phone call about the passing of a family member. I called the hotel thinking they would be sympathise with me and refund me the money i paid only 4 hours previously. I spoke to a very emotionless reception manager and told me its the hotel policy, now i know from working in hotel's myself refund can actually still be made at manager's Discretion. I was obviously upset from the passing of a family member and just thought any human would understand and just have a heart. I will never ever stay at this hotel again
Very rude, robot employees 🙄. No stars at all from myself.

The property was outdated and needed to be upgraded, decorated etc. Dining room was fine, breakfast was good. Staff were helpful and polite. Appreciate property in the town centre which is dirty and looks rough. However did notice they are doing something in the near future with the top town area which can only be good.

My window to the road side all night can hear the cars and the toilet it’s not good , because next door they use toilet I can hear very loud, then the door shut is very loud too . Keeps my awake !
3.8
Good value room, pleasant and helpful staff, reasonable restaurant food, big carpark.
It was impossible to fully close my room’s window so that it stayed shut, so there was some traffic noise (but I’m a heavy sleeper).

Due to the death of my father i was staying in grimsby to sort out his affairs and as such i was only booking one night at a time. This was fine and the hotel were able to ensure i kept the same room everyday. I was in the hotel for 5 days in total and on my last day, when paying for breakfast (which i had done every morning with no issue) I was charged an incorrect rate. Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake and refunding me the difference the member of staff proceeded to get agressive with me and offered zero help. He continued to accuse me that it was my fault i had been overcharged. It took two attempts of talking to him to get my refund, which he begrudgingly did. It was clearly a significant effort for him to go and get approval from the manager who was sat at receptiona meer 10m away. His attitude was totally unacceptable and to be harrassed and spoken to in such an aggressive manner is simply appauling. I had to remain in Grimsby for another night but this was enough of an issue for me to check into another hotel. I did raise a complaint with the manager at the time who was apologetic and receptive to my grievance, however it was a truly disgusting way to be spoken to by a member of staff.

Good service with breakfast and cleaning

The hotel is located within walking distance of the station. I arrived a little before check in time and they arranged for me to have a free coffee whilst waiting for room prep to finish which I appreciated.
The room itself was clean but tired looking. It didn’t look as if money had been spent smartening it up for a long time. Bed very comfortable.
Plug sockets over the sideboard were placed such that there was no space to allow the kettle plug to be put into the socket. I had to move one of the bedside tables towards the door and put all the drinks equipment on that by a wall socket there. Just thought it was odd no-one had ever spotted this. Others must have complained but years must have gone past with no one ever bothering to sort it out.
Overall a lack of plug sockets especially for charging phones, other IT equipment. This hotel seemed to have been built long before anyone ever needed to think about such things.
Didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on food. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would use it again but would ask for an extension lead when booking.

Cleaners were very helpful. Rooms are very basic with tired out furniture. Beds okay. Our window was stuck wide open for three days but we were lucky no rain. The noise on the Minster side goes on all night so be warned. Having said that, we might book again. It is very central, and the staff are so nice. It's a glass half full sort of place.
3.8
Room was dirty. Carpet threadbare. Wardobe and work area sticky. Had to clean the remote control was disgusting. Its more of a hostel than hotel. Downstairs was nice. Rooms so old and had no work done. Wallpaper was lining paper. Just dreadful.
3.8
The hotel is tired needs fixtures and fittings upgrading. The bedrooms are far to hot to sleep in. Breakfast looks great but the food is barely warm. Coffee and tea lukewarm. The staff are friendly. Won't be going again. A hotel to be avoided.

We have stayed here several times. The staff are friendly and helpful. Overall, it's a bit tired, but for the money absolutely fine. Beds are comfy and it's very quiet.

Lovely place opposite minster, room too hot but otherwise good.
3.8
Lovely little hotel, very clean and the staff were really friendly. Our only negative thing we would say is the temperature of the room was almost unbearable. Once you get into the room open the window straight away and it does help a little.

Great hotel. Never any issues. Great value for money
