There was no hot water for the duration of the stay. No offering of concession either

Under construction. Loud. Smelly and no hot water. Had to check out

Upon arrival, no shuttle from the airport as in the promo. No water. No towels (makes sense I guess). No supplies or store to buy anything, like water to drink. I had already paid through Hotels.com. So no refund or discount. Next morning, a trickle of water but no hot water. Hey, it’s still CR. Infrastructure needs a lot of work.

Hotel is in need of updating in the rooms, service from staff was excellent. The restaurant is seriously outdated and located in wrong floor. It should be first or second floor and have a bar. The hotel is a good 3 star hotel.

One night and I would go back. The hotel is under reconstruction so it is not as nice as it could be. The bathroom is dated and needs renovation, but I really can't complain - great location and comfort. BTW the breakfast is no where near worth the price.

This hotel is under renovation in the lobby. Did not know this when I booked. Had to reprogram our key cards every day at least once a day at our three night stay! Ordered transportation to airport and when confirming had no record of our request. And in the am (430) still had no record after rewriting request on post it note! Did make to airport either way. Not looking for 5star service when booking this hotel but was looking for a consistency of the hotel chain name and did not receive it. I would try another hotel next time I’m in central San Jose

Under construction and the carpet in the room soiled. Staff super friendly and helpful!

I am heartsick at how our four nights (two at each end of our trip) ruined what should have been a wonderful week in Costa Rica. We stayed at the Holiday Inn San Jose Aurola as part of a group tour, adding an additional day onto each end. There is not enough room here to describe the terrible experiences we encountered at this hotel. The worst part, however, was the musty mildew/mold odor in the guest rooms. We changed rooms several times, trying for one with cleaner air, for a total of five rooms. All had the same problem. This is a health issue that cannot be ignored. One member of our group reported black mold under the sink. I had to wear my Covid mask in the room, along with putting out scented packets (which I purchased in San Jose) to cover up the nauseating smell. Had we not been part of a tour group and traveling with friends, I would have changed hotels. But it was necessary for us to stay with the group. I will also be writing up our experience to the tour company (Gate 1). From the first time we requested a room change, and each time thereafter, we were told there were no other rooms. Eventually one would be found, only to have the same issues - foul air, filthy carpeting, damp musty odor, in the curtains and drapes and in some pillows, AC and other infrastructure/maintenance problems (which were numerous), room keys that didn't work even when replaced (dead battery in lock), no answer when calling front desk resulting in repeated trips to the lobby, and more.

Checked in and the lobby was a mess. I understand renovation. Nothing you can do about that. Got to the room and the room was musty and dated. Smell was all over my clothes. Very disappointed. TV is internet based. Very poor. Internet was not working in my room the entire time. Asked and nothing was done to fix issues. Didn’t have maid service until 3rd day. Then when they did show up, it was 7:30 am. Knocking on the door and walked into room. Before I could even answer. Again, not a great experience. Got water was an issue as well. This building needs a major renovation or lower rates. We went to the restaurant the first morning and walked in and employee there said yes, sit anywhere you like. We asked if this was included and the gentleman said yes. After we sat down and started to eat, he asked for our room numbers. We gave them to him and he said no, yours is not included. You need to pay $14 each. Not a big deal, but would have been nice to know ahead of time. Just very disappointed. Will not use this property again.

I will caveat by saying they were at 100% occupancy and this created issues for them, but our stay was unpleasant. We had reserved 2 rooms, only 1 was ready. When they got 2nd ready we arrived to find it dirty. Back downstairs and got a new key and finally had our 2nd room. One room had no coffee maker, one had no dryer. Neither was well cleaned. One room has pone towel, no mat and no hand towels. The next day they removed all towels and left none. The one hand towel we got had a brown stain on it. Hotel itself is ok -nothing special- but would have been fine if we'd had better service. Also we ordered a shuttle to the airport and what was provided was a small dirty car that we had to squeeze into. Luckily the driver was funny.
It is centrally located- so that was good.

Staff was excellent, but three days of construction, jackhammer noise is unacceptable

The lobby was under construction (no heads-up), there were no towels in the room when we checked in, we had to request them. The inside of the bathroom door was dirty. Other than that, comfortable enough, and very close to the car-free shopping zone, across the street from a park.

Nice views from the top floor restaurant. Friendly personnel. Room is excellent condition. The carpets and some decorations, though, are a little old.

The reception was very friendly and welcoming as well as the cleaning lady on the 12th floor.💗 well located for discovering downtown San Jose, they had a parking lot which was very convenient, and Jim and several restaurants. I felt safe and comfortable.

Maria Jose is an excellent front desk. Awesome service was provided by her. Thank very much

It is a very clean property, great staff and good place to stay. It’s near to the central market, National museum and theater. They only have to improve the breakfast menu and facilities to be the best place to stay

1. The staff was very courteous.
2. The facilities were great except the pool was a little cold.
3. Breakfast was tasty
4. Hotel Area: I want to start off by saying that I don't want to denigrate homeless people. However, I feel that it's important for other people who are considering staying at this hotel to be aware of the area outside the hotel at night. As a single woman, I felt unsafe walking alone at night due to the presence of homeless people who were looking for money. Even the hotel staff advised me not to walk alone at night immediately outside the hotel. During my stay, I had a frightening experience when I was approached by a homeless man for money when returning from a restaurant in the area out front of the hotel. I just wanted to share this information so that other travelers can take appropriate precautions and stay safe."

The location is perfect for walking to the central market, and many shopping and restaurants nearby. I'd stay here again!

This hotel needs some serious renovation. The room smelled like a mixture between piss and smoking. There is mold in the gravel in the bathroom.
The parking attendant was extremely nice and helpful.

Stayed one night before flying back home. Not a 4 star hotel, maybe when it was new. Room was small and a bit outdated, but it was fine for one night.

I felt like the staff were always very polite. The laundry service was excellent as well. The room had a musty smell, and i felt awkward trying to use the dinning facilities.

The location was central, however if you go west of there it gets very sketchy very quickly. The hotel itself is adequate however the staff were terrible, just so unfriendly and wouldn’t allow me to bring my friend up to my room for a moment, they couldn’t understand that he was not an overnight guest and they insisted on charging me. Completely ridiculous and unacceptable. Also the room did not have a mini-fridge and the tv only seemed to have one channel. Wouldn’t recommend this as there are better hotels in the downtown area.

Stay here was okay - just a good place to pass a few days as we made our trip around Costa Rica. New Year’s Eve dinner wasn’t worth the money. The bathroom shower was a bit gross and there were some stains in the room’s carpet. The hotel was non-smoking but at one point there was cigarette smoke smell in the room that came through the vents. I let the front desk know in case they wanted to charge us for it (my boyfriend and I don’t smoke). They said thanks for letting them know but there was nothing they could do if I couldn’t tell them which room it was coming from. There was no way to tell since it came from the vents.
Otherwise the stay was fine. They have private parking on the property and there’s a market right across the street if you need to buy anything.
I would say it’s a great hotel for a short stay but not for an entire vacation. La Fortuna and Jaco were our favorite places to stay in.

My room had no cold water, they came to repair it twice to no avail, the front desk did not even offer to change me to another room. Room was outdated. Food was not that good. Area around the hotel is not too safe. People sleeping in the street, drug users and other undesired activity was seen.
