Everything looked nice but the building is pretty old, we could hear our neighbors when they got a little loud and the toilet kept making a weird running noise. The AC was ineffective so the room felt stuffy most of the time. The view was nice though.

A great room overlooking the Buckingam Fiuntain, and the lakefront

While the hotel, there was helpful, the restaurants staff needs better training.
The room temperature was extremely high and could not be adjusted.

It was disappointing the rooms are climate controlled by the hotel. I had a family suite and we couldn’t get 2 fans.
One of the bedrooms doesn’t have a door-no privacy.

The room is really old and needs some remodeling. Lighting was not great.

Vintage and cool overall - 13th floor - morning view over the lake - take the stairs - might see the ghost of Capone - close to the start of Rt 66 that ends in Santa Monica CA -

It was too warm and there is no thermostat. The interior is not very luxurious and it feels like a motel. Overall, the location is great and overall comfortable

Inoperable TV; staff ignored request to fix. Hot water takes forever to reach room

Our family of five was able to share a Family Suite and we were quite comfortable. We understand the age of the hotel but the heating/cooling was very uneven between the two rooms. What really drove our rating was that the toilet was broken and would not flush properly. We called the first night and it was plunged but it did not fix the problem. We had to call again the next morning and they repaired it while we were gone. It did work after that.

They followed us around the hotel Everytime we came back in from running errands and simply stepping out. They gave my children the hardest time being that they are young and black. Others were able to walk in without question. We on the other hand had to show our key card and get followed to the elevator. They even took it as far as to call our room ask if we made it in, each and everytime.

My stay was comfortable, for an old building the room didn’t have a smell like other hotels do the bed was super comfortable everything was very clean. Location is perfect everything is walking distance

Beautiful hotel, love the view, never disappoints when we stay. We've stayed here several times. The hotel is very busy so if you're looking for a nice quiet place, this is probably not it.

The lobby area is very nice, although the rooms are fairly outdated and could use a few upgrades. The curtains did cover the entire windows so it was pretty bright in the room at night. Also, there were two complimentary water bottles, but one was half empty upon my arrival. Lastly, there wasn’t a thermostat in the room and it was quite warm. The positive is the price is typically much less than the surrounding hotels, but a few small changes could make a big difference.

We arrived just after check in time on a busy day and were required to wait a few minutes before getting our room. The host/clerk was very apologetic and upgraded our room to compensate for the inconvenience.
We were very comfortable and felt very much at home for the long weekend.
The interactions we had with the cleaning staff, bellhops, room service and restaurant personnel were pleasant, professional, helpful and very friendly.
I'll be sure to stay with you again, it was a great experience!

Very beautiful hotel. Friendly, competent staff. The room is comfortable. It would be better if the temperature of the air conditioner can be controlled.

As with my previous review, we are very happy with this hotel. Its age and rough edges add to the charm. The staff is exceedingly professional and everyone at The Congress adds their personal professional touch.

It was a solid choice for the money, good service comfortable and clean room. Drawbacks were Monday breakfast buffet for $25 as the only option, ATM was broken so I could not get cash to leave a tip, and ground floor smells of marijuana and it goes up the elevator as well.

This hotel feels like classic Chicago as I imagined it. Some signs of age but thats the charm of it all. The staff keeps the building clean and top working condition. Everyone from guest services to the bell staff, security and the maid service operated with the highest of professionalism. The rooms are perfect. Our King Lake view was larger than expected with very hogh ceilings and a clean white interior. The view was perfect and the experience was even better than hoped.

The hotel location was great for us. We enjoyed walking around the area. The hotel is older and it was warmer than normal for the time of year and there was no A/C.

Accommodations were fine. Had extremely loud people until 3am which made it less ideal.

The view from the south wing is spectacular. It is extremely convenient for attending symphony concerts and even operas. The pricing in general is very affordable.

The Congress is definitely a faded glory sort of hotel, once upon a time it must have been glitzy. Today, it's a perfectly reasonable place to stay, with modernized rooms, and just steps from Orchestra Hall, restaurants, a fabulous little bookstore, and the Art Institute. We have stayed here many times, and the basics are all solid. Clean room, fast elevator, quick check in.

Hotel HVAC was either on or off. No temperature control as it's an old hotel. Our room was so cold we had to shut the units off.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Congress Hotel. The staff was friendly & accommodating & we were able to check in early. The room was clean & anything we needed during the stay was provided without hesitation. My only complaint is the parking, it’s almost impossible to find somewhere to park in the city & the parking next to the hotel charges $62 a night valet parking for overnight stay & $25 additional if you need to move the car out before the night. That is city wide though & not a negative thing towards the hotel. It is ever in the area again, I would love to stay here again.
