The Carlton Hotel is a beautifully decorated, nicely refurbished older hotel. Lovely furnishings throughout. Largish rooms. Very comfortable. Located in the center of town, there are several coffee houses, restaurants and a bakery very nearby. It was also priced lower than some other local hotels. Well worth a stay! !

It’s a super lovely old-fashioned elegant hotel, slightly down at heels but still sparkling clean and trying. The staff is always friendly. This is my third time staying her during a road trip from northern to Southern California. The problems this time was 1) the bed felt too soft, 2) I couldn’t turn the heater off and it was too hot 71 degrees). So I had to open the window. 3) two of the four jets in the whirlpool bathtub didn’t work. 4) the arm chair I. The room was just too old. Looks nice but the seat was badly sagging and the back too. This place has so much charm and the staff is so nice, you want this place to be just a little bit better.

We have stayed at this property several times over the years. It was not as good as usual. Service is always great, but the rug in the room of dirty and the bed was not as comfortable. They changed the comforter, or actually did not have a cozy comfortable. Had to add a blanket. Two of the jets in the tub did not work. Over all, it was very nice.

Great place and location! Wonderful bathroom and room- only the carpet needs replacing. The young man at check in was super kind and helpful.

The hotel is great except couldn’t get soap to wash our faces and no body wash in the shower. Front desk dug through a box under the front desk and found us 2 small bottles of body wash. I did have a small bar of soap in my overnight bag

Rooms and bathroom were big. The A/C did not work in our room so we opened the window but the freeway noise was a lot.
Over all a very nice place to stay and we’ll be back again!!

Extremely disappointed with our stay.
The in house restaurant and bar closed for refurbishment. If we had known this in advance we would have booked a different hotel.
The carpet was stained, the toilet kept filling of its own accord, the jacuzzi bath only had one of four jets working.
For the price we paid I would have expected complimentary water. Instead they were asking for $12 for two small bottles.
The only positives were the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

It’s always a great stay at The Carlton. It’s clean, the rooms are very spacious and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. After discovering this gem it’s the only place I stay. It’s in walking distance to restaurants and there’s a delicious homemade ice shop directly across the street. You can’t go wrong at The Carlton.

This hotel turns 100 years old soon and let me tell you what's great about this place and other older hotels:
• large rooms
• windows that open for fresh air
• charm and character
The handsome decor here made me feel like I was in Richard Gilmore's library. Loved the friendly staff, bakery next door and wonderful old Sylvester's down the street. Also appreciated that both beds had an expansive upholstered bench at the foot of the bed where we could set our stuff. Plenty of closet and drawer space. So many newer hotels have nowhere to put anything! Cute little coffee nook and the biggest bathroom ever. SUPER comfortable beds and pillows. Thank you Hotel Carlton! All the stars!

The Carlton is first-rate! But we’d never have known it without Cole the gentleman at the Carlton Desk. With a special needs son, we had some unique needs I had to call twice but each time Cole was personable, professional and when I called a third time almost in tears because I wasn’t sure where we were …Cole was calm and assuring and he got us safely through a monstrous disastrous construction site blocking our arrival, when he knew we were almost there, he went to our room, checked the temp, making sure it was ready for us…and it was! Thank You Cole You Are Blessing! Thank you Carlton … it was a trip we’ll never forget!

It’s my favorite place to stay in Atascadero. It’s close to restaurants and the customer service is always great.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into my room was it smelled as if the carpets needed a very deep cleaning. The hotel website advertised free wine, tasting for guests staying at the hotel, however, when I inquired, I was advised that they were no longer doing that. That was disappointing watching TV in the evening, you only had a choice of about six channels most were sports and a couple of them were Spanish-speaking.

This is a beautiful property and the only place I have stayed at when I visit SLO, for about 10 years now. I was sad to see the hotel in poor shape and hope that they will start remodeling and keeping up with this beautiful and unique hotel.
I highly recommend cleaning the carpets, the first room I checked in at smelled real bad, thankfully I was able to change my room, but the carpets were pretty bad in the new room too and throughout the Hotel.
I heard that they may be renovating the hotel in October.
My experience with the staff was all over, the welcome didn't go so well, but later most people were nice.
I will be back next year, if the hotel has been updated I will be staying at the Carlton again.

There is massive construction around the property and it’s hard to find parking for check in. There is one small lot dedicated to the hotel across the street and I gets full at night so you have to park around the block in an unsecured area. No free coffee available in the lobby, coffee maker in the rooms with $6 bottles of water if you want coffee. No pool on site, if your room is attached to the second floor communal area you will have random people outside your windows, so you really don’t have a private room. Room was clean, shower and bath area was really nice. Bed was comfy and pillows were great, just not overall impressed with hotel amenities or location. This hotel is really meant for business travelers or people looking for wine related activities, not someone looking to relax on vacation.

Overall the stay was good. There is decent parking although I think it is still limited. Easy drive to the beaches and fight next to 101.
Only hitch was that the air conditioning was not working on an extremely hot day 100 temps and the staff were not aware of it till the guests complained. It took them more than a day to repair and led to uncomfortable stay and sleep one night. Good thing is that they compensated for it with a discount which is very much appreciated.

The Carlton Hotel is a very beautiful place to stay and the room was extremely spacious. The front desk ladies that helped us were very pleasant and understanding as we brought an issue to their attention. We got into our room and the AC was not working but we were not advised of that at check in. After we put our things into the room we talked to them and they said they were aware as it went down the day prior to us arriving. We let them know we were going to dinner with family and if not fixed by the time we got back we would have to relocate as we were dripping in sweat just from unpacking our things and tried to freshen up. To our surprise it was up and running by the time we returned and made our stay very pleasant. Thank you Carlton for having great staff the night we checked in but can’t as such with the gentleman at desk when we checked out.

This is a property that has been recently renovated historic hotel. The streets around the hotel we undergoing construction; it would have been nice to know and for the hotel to give us a heads up.
While it has been renovated, the hotel has not upgraded two provide connection ports for today's phones and devices.
We were there on a Monday and although there is a restaurant in the hotel, it was not open (I think it was only Fridays and weekends. Strangely, a lot of the non-bar close by restaurants were also closed the first part of the week.

This hotel is wonderful. The rooms are clean and spacious. The area around the property is safe and offer plenty of eating options within walking distance. Although breakfast is not available at the hotel, next door is a great coffeehouse with delicious breakfast options. Loved the quaint courtyard and lovely lobby. Highly recommend this place.
