This used to be such a great hotel. I stay there 5-6times a year. It has really gone downhill in the last 18months. Looks tired dirty and needs a lot of maintenance. The WiFi is now really bad as well and struggles to even send emails. A real shame as the staff are really nice, friendly and helpful

Very disappointed. This used to be such a beautiful hotel pre Covid. Now the rooms are bleak, weathered, bear and not at all welcoming. Bear grey walls with stains on them. Stained, dirty carpets. Cheaply painted furniture that’s heavily marked. I’ve stayed in nicer hostels. The spa while still spectacular
In its facilities, is now tired and dirty. Used to be one of my favourite work hotels. Won’t rush back. Food was still good, however very overpriced.

Great place to unwind for 2 nights. Get a room overlooking the canal and a spa visit

Brilliant stay.
Feel so relaxed and a lovely location.
Only niggle like a few hotels.
Could not connect my fire stick to the tv to match what I want to watch.
But all in all a fantastic little break away.

For the first time in 5 years i had requested a full refund from this two night stay after being checked in for only around 20munties. The room was Dirty, the wifi would not work that i needed for business use & multiple damages around the room, including chunks out of the headboard, dirty towels, dirty floor & bathroom, hair stuck to walls ect. I have all pictures but was refused a refund. I booked elsewhere, would never stay again.

Able to go for long walk in countryside beside canal to aqueduct along canal path into Wales and back.
Hotel great (and quiet)

The hotel was nice enough and the leisure facilities were nice but it seemed a bit run down. The paint peeling and just generally a bit tatty. It’s wasn’t the cleanest with hair in the shower tray and orange gunk on the grouting, random clothes tags on the bathroom floor and a few flies in the room even though we kept the doors and windows shut.
It was nice, but could use a bit of a scrub and lick of paint. Staff were friendly enough.

We stayed for one night for my partners birthday. Our evening meal was excellent in excellent surroundings. The outside area by the canal was really nice, having pre meal drinks there. The room was really clean & comfortable and we had a really good night’s sleep! We would definitely recommend this hotel & would definitely return but hopefully get to use the spa facilities next time!

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a lovely view of the canal and the buffet breakfast was very good with lots of variety.

How the card machines do not work the at to get four different card machines for it to work they brought the main course before the starters and they do not accept legal tender cash on the full property

We were very disappointed, it was our 30th wedding anniversary and expected the place to be appropriate for one night stay as we were touring.
We asked for a refund but it wasn’t possible, we would like some sort of response from you, it took three room changes to settle us in and the smell in the room was terrible like Ralgex had been used in the room, so felt it wasn’t very well cleaned.
The other previous rooms bedding torn headboard ripped and doors unpainted on wardrobes.
Very shabby to say the least.
The staff tried very hard to pacify us.
Regards mr & Mrs Dowie

Really enjoyed the short stay, other than non existent WiFi in the room.
Trying to make plans with friends etc was a nightmare as phone signal didn't get much coverage.

Beautiful spa and swimming facilities. Good quality food (breakfast and supper) Excellent parking and very attractive surroundings.
Staff were friendly and helpful..
Quite noisy at night until Midnight. Heavy doors slamming shut and loud voices in the corridor.

This was a birthday trip so thought it would be a nice treat. But towels were soaking wet on shelf underleaking sink. Glue in the sink from a crack. Mould on grouting. Bathroom very tired. Room was clean but bed not very comfy. Pillow very flat and hard. Good choice of refreshments in room. Did report the leak, lady came quick with new towels and tried to fix leak. Someone was going to fix it next day but it was still leaking. Not a 4 star hotel.

The property was very well maintained and had some really good views from the rooms the issues were that in our room we had no hot water in the bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

A really enjoyable stay.

Booked on hotels.com which shows all refurbished rooms. Arrived and got a dated room with horrible dresser tops and bathroom. Explained to reception and we were immediately moved to another room no problem but they were quiet.
Why would you not upgrade if you can whilst waiting for old rooms to be refurbished. Leaves a bad taste.
Breakfast cold , coffee horrible.
Beautiful pool but unbearably hot in changing rooms.

Had passed this hotel on many occasions and thought it was out of my price range which mainly it is, so I was expecting great things when it came up below what I feel I can claim on expenses. Wasn’t that impressed overall. The room needed some TLC and the restaurant prices were a little heavy! £7.00 for a single shot of gin (I like a double) and £2.80 for a slimline tonic makes for an expensive drink, I thought I’d bought the bottle! Food prices also expensive. Overall it didn’t deliver the expectations of quality I had imagined for this prestigious looking/sounding hotel. I would stop again but only if the price is right and I would lay off their G&T’s!!!

Great stay but no information in room about hotel etc & no aircon so we had to wedge the door open which was not ideal. Dark haired girl on spa reception was not very helpful, every time I asked a question she just said look at the website. We had no idea there was a spa world until we came out & spoke to the lady upstairs who was helpful & showed me around even though it was closed. Very helpful if we decide to come back

Lovely hotel, slightly tired. Room ok with balcony overlooking the canal. Requested champagne flutes but they never arrived, no staff to bring them apparantly? Smoked salmon was at an additional cost of £5.95 which we were surprised at as all other hotels we had stayed in was available at no extra cost.

Arrival staff were very friendly and accommodating. Parts of the hotel itself looked a little tired but this didn’t put us off. Our room did have a funny smell but we didn’t want to complain, it was still clean. The bed was little bouncy however I am aware this is a personal preference matter.
The spa was lovely. Had a nice evening in there and following morning.
Overall this is a lovely place to come for a short trip to wind down.

Inspite of a wedding going on the hotel staff were as attentive to my family group.
The spa facility was good to use too.
Food especially breakfast was great. The disabled parking was also easy to access.
My only downside was that the patio door of my downstairs room didnt open. It also took me a while to find the tea/ coffee and kettle hidden in a wardrobe. Otherwise a perfectly pleasant time

Very friendly staff, everywhere clean and welcoming, no complaints on the service to the room apart from missing food item but they sorted this very quickly.

Weird smell to a dated room. Needs updating as hotel is old fashioned and tired. Great location though, overlooking canal and fields

Rooms are dated, not very clean. Shower was broken.
Saw 2 rats running around. 1 by spa and 1 outside restaurant.

Really disappointed with the property. It could be so lovely as the surroundings are really beautiful.
Room is outdated and grubby. Surfaces and floors were sticky. We had no hot water to shower in the morning and mentioned it at check out only to be told it had been rectified, but at that point it was to late as we were checking out.
Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.

We had a lovely overnight stay at The Lion Quays resort, my husband was able to check in to our room early, whilst my cousin and I went on a very nice spa day in the separate facility on site.
The hotel site is showing some signs of wear and tear, the carpets are tired and worn in places, the decking on the moorings is a bit rotten but it looks as though they’re starting to replace it. This however, didn’t really spoil anything for us. Our room had a lovely view of the canal with doors you could open up and take in the fresh air, the proximity to the A5 means there is some road noise almost all the time, but this didn’t bother us.
Overall the room was well appointed and clean, though we couldn’t figure out how to get the tv to work other than as a radio and it would’ve been helpful to have had more than one USB socket, as we both forgot our charger plugs. Large comfy bed, no complaints there.
We had booked B&B, and the breakfast buffet in the adjacent restaurant was excellent. Everything you’d generally want in a good British buffet, including decent coffee.
The proximity to the Llangollen canal meant we could get straight onto the tow path and enjoyed a lovely walk up to Chirk and back. Well worth it to view the aqueduct and viaduct. You can go further through the tunnel and there’s lots to explore. We’d go back. It’s a nice, convenient place to stay. The spa facilities are also excellent and they use Elemis products which is always a bonus from my point of view.

I found the property convenient for an event I was attending. It offered good parking with good amenities and facilities. However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness, the speed of service, and the lack of dinner options.
