My usual hotel appeared to have been fully booked so I decided to give the IJsselhotel, sorry the Pillows Luxury Boutique Hotel Aan De IJssel a try. The location is amazing, right across from the town on the river. To get to the other side there is a small ferry throughout the day. My room was amazing. Incredibly well furnished with high quality gear, comfortable for want of a better word, perfect. The shower(s) are amazingly powerful and the view, in my case over the park, was peaceful. The staff, without fail, were absolutely delightful. I have two criticisms, one was the deafening noise in the restaurant which made it impossible to have a conversation across the table without shouting, both during dinner and at breakfast over the weekend, the other is the drinks situation. I asked for a G&T, preference? Yes Tanqueray please, sorry, we only have 3 types of gin, none of which I had heard of, so opted for the one that was described as "neutral". If I want something flowery I'll go to the florist and eat some roses. The drink that was produced tasted like nothing I had ever tasted before, and not in a good way. The cause seemed to be the tonic water. Disgusting isn't a word I use in reviews but this stuff tasted like diarrhoea smells. I kid you not. I subsequently asked for a gin without tonic which was OK. Fancy is OK but don't forget about the basics. There's nothing wrong with a dry martini made from traditional ingredients in the traditional way.

Good rooms, good breakfast, and very friendly staff

The view over the river the 'Ijssel' and the church of Deventer.
We also felt very welcome, with a very relaxed checkin procedure in the living room. Also the 'a la cart' breakfast is great and prevents waste of food, good thought!

Pillows are by far my favourite hotel chain and Pillows Deventer lived up to the expectation. Love it!

Lovely property. Rooms on the ground floor facing the carpark are small and you have to keep the curtains closed. I would stay at the hotel again but NEVER stay on the ground floor facing the park or car park.

We had a great time with amazing service throughout our stay. The property is located in a perfect spot alongside the river and has a good restaurant with lovely terrace. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Brand new hotel was everything that you would expect from a 4* luxury hotel.Staff were friendly and efficient.
The dinner menu in the restaurant could have been a bit more expansive, but what I had was well presented and very tasty

It was amazing!

The hotel was perfectly placed for phenomenal views and access to one of the most beautiful Dutch towns. The staff and accommodations were excellent. The ferry across the river into the town and it’s proximity to the Bicycle routes was perfect. Highly recommend this hotel and Deventer as a place to visit.

Nice location for visiting the Hanseatic towns of the Ijssel

The hotel is located on the river with a beautiful view of town. The parking is free. You can take a ferry across the river for 1.5 euros round trip to get into the town of Deventer. There are many good restaurants and bars in town. My only complaint was that the AC would shut down in the middle of the night making the room too warm. It seemed like their was some sort of energy management system that was causing the problem?

Staff is nice, location is very good, but the room is not very big. The water sink is wired to use. Gym is not in a good shape to use, not 4 star, maybe 3 or 3.5 max.

Enjoyed the town of Deventer. Not pleased to arrive and to be told that we could not get dinner that evening. But it had an expected benefit as we ferried across to the main town and had great dinners out on both nights of our stay and at more reasonable prices ! Set breakfast at 25 euros was overpriced and too much !

Clean hotel, lovely large room and service and food in the restaurant were really good. Only criticism was there was only one young member of staff on breakfast who was clearly stretched. Despite being told breakfast was made to order and full of choice the night before, having sat down it took 20mins to take the order for coffee, then 10mins later was given a bowl of granola - after a further 10mins had to leave, shame really as otherwise stay was good.

Hotel was great! Location at the ferry is great! Rooms are small, but very clean and comfortable otherwise. Parking is free and easy. WiFi is free and we had no problems. Dining room is mixed -- breakfast was OK but dinner was good food, but markedly slow service. Yes, would stay again, but probably not have dinner there.

Lovely hotel in a really nice area, only thing which let it down slightly (and this wont bother everyone) is the quality of the gym. It is a little tired to be polite! Everything else about the hotel was excellent and would well recommend

Excellent food although quite pricey on a budget. Only real complaint no tea/coffee making facilities in room. Staff very friendly but when more than 5 for breakfast or at busier times tended to bring out less. For 20 euro I would have liked to choose my breakfast and have a choice.
