Great place, excellent breakfast with extremely helpful staff, the two ladies were fantastic!!!

Sandmelis Hotel is a good value hotel. It is clean, has a great staff, and serves a great breakfast. It’s not fancy, but has all you need for a comfortable stay. Security is good. It is about an 8 minute walk to the new metro which will take you to the middle of the Historic center. One suggestion would be to add rubber mats in the bathrooms as the tile is very slippery and dangerous when wet.

We were in town for the holidays and visiting family nearby. We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff was always friendly and addressed any concerns we had immediately. The room was spacious and beds comfy. I slept well. I regret that we didn't get to try any of the spa services. The breakfast was DELICIOUS and above and beyond what I expected: croissant, eggs, fresh fruit, with juice and coffee.

The room was clean, modern and comfortable. The shower was hot. Lots of restaurants nearby. Breakfast was okay. Staff were helpful in organising airport shuttle ($25).

Sandmelis was an excellent choice hotel located in a great area for me to commute to where I needed to be for two days. The management/ staff were very accommodating & friendly. The room was very nice and comfortable as well. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quito.

No complaints about this hotel. The location in northern Quito is a ways from downtown, but it is only a half-hour from the airport, traffic permitting. Close to Shyris Avenue buses and a 5 minute walk from the Jipijapa (Hippie-hoppa) stop for the Ecovia bus, a kind of express which runs in its own traffic lane through downtown and on to the south end of town. Quiet neighborhood with some eateries and a supermarket nearby. Highlight: A continental breakfast is included that comes with delicious scrambled eggs.

Tucked into a busy urban area, the hotel makes the most of its space. Our room was smaller than typical U.S. rooms (we had a double bed and a single bed for our family). What it lacked in space, it made up for with an awesome shower (great water pressure and temp) and functional bathroom! The room was very clean too. We would have liked more than a quart of filtered water in the room and more than one glass, too; the pillows were flat (but we travel with our own, so no big deal) and the city noise was audible through the windows, but not too bad -- our only criticisms. THE BREAKFAST WAS AMAZING! Fresh and hot food, with tip-top service. And the front desk staff was SUPER HELPFUL and friendly! We were glad we chose this boutique-style hotel and we'd recommend it to others.

This hotel is an HOUR (or more depending on traffic) from the airport. There may not be any hotels near the new airport? But you'd be better off staying in the center of the city.

Room was not nice, overlooked roof of nearby building. Took taxi driver forever to find. Breakfast ends too early at 9. Booked a double but got 2 single beds. Most frustrating thing is that hotel was advertised as being close to airport but in reality it was an hour away (new airport was built over two years ago but the listing not updated). Only reason I chose this hotel was because it was being advertised as being close to airport.

Copa airlines canceled our flight from DC, causing us to miss our flight home to Cuenca, Ecudaor, So we had tospend the night in Quito. We needed a place on short notice, and would not get there until 1am! Hotels.com hooked us up with Sandmelis. They were waiting for us at 1 am. When I went down to get coffee the next morning, they insisted on bringing it to us, even though we were on the third floor in this lovely walk-up hostel. When we needed to get back to the airport with a large amount of luggage, they got us a private suv for the trip. Nice accommodations, with ample hot water and water pressure! Would go back any time.

Excelent Choice for Quito.

Had an overnight stay. My flight was delayed and arrived over an hour late. The driver sent by the hotel was still waiting patiently and I was greeted by Marco at midnight and shown my room. Impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. I had an early flight yet Marco, who had met me at midnight, was up and ordered a taxi for me at 5AM. Thank you Marco, helpful and patient.
Only downside that some may find disconcerting is the walls don't stop much sound from the next room. I awoke with a start as I thought the low snoring was coming from the other bed in my room. Otherwise the hotel is a gem for stopovers

We used Sandmelis because it was close to airport in Quito. It is a modest, clean (actually liked my room a lot, nice colors, clean bathroom) but room is about it, small lobby. The owner chatted us up, he was a charming older man. His son or grandson checked us in, they arranged for a taxi at 5AM, it took less than 5 min. to airport, cost $4. There are several restaurants around hotel. It is noisy in Quito, especially w/single pane windows, but we stayed in a way ritzier place when we got to Quito, it was just as noisy. Doesn't bother me, but my husband has sleep issues! Sandmelis doesn't have an elevator, but the desk man helped us get luggage up to room. We try to travel reasonably light, just a bag each and sm. handcarry.
They have a lovely breakfast room, but we left too early for that.

A great hotel for staying close to the airport - we stayed for only one night - service is wonderful and very helpful - the staff seem to all speak English- nice room - large bathroom and hot water in a very short time. Breakfast is included too.
Location is near the corner of two busy streets-not a pretty location and we didn't want to walk around there but convenient for getting to and from the airport quickly.
An excellent Italian restaurant is located two doors away - Frattelli - and an ATM machine in the farmacia just around the corner.
We got our wake up call on time - had breakfast earlier than expected - hired their transport to get us back to the airport for $8 - very nice friendly driver (we could have taken a taxi for maybe $4 though getting there in traffic cost us $6.50)
Would recommend this hotel if you need a room close to the airport but for visiting the city and walking around, I"d recommend staying in the Las Carolinas area.

The hotel is well situated and well maintained. Rooms are a bit small. We`were disappointed since the wireless was not functioning. A ver nice breakfast. The neighborhood was safe but not many choices for restaurants.
