Great stay with family! Workers were all pleasant and friendly and helpful. Very close to the airport and Funchal which are huge benefits.

Very friendly staff, good variety of food and great hotel. My only recommendation is to either fully revamp the a la carte restaurant or else.

This was the first time we have ever stayed at a RIU resort and we were not disappointed. The staff were all wonderful. Big shout out to the bartenders and wait staff for their friendliness.

The service at this place was out of this world. We felt incredibly taken care of by the entire staff. The hotel is lovely and well maintained. The views are gorgeous however it is not on a beach, it is on a very boulder and rock laden waterfront so worth noting if beach access is important to your holiday.
The food leaves a lot to be desired, and because of that I would not come again as a couple however would visit again with children as the all inclusive does make vacationing very easy.
We took advantage of booking excursions through the front desk and ended up paying a lot less working with the hotel (bonus!) The excursions were wonderful.

Everything about this hotel what amazing… the food , the people and it’s very clean and I’m hard to please but I do not have any complaints. Love love love my stay here . For anyone who will go and see the sunrise, bring a blanket with you . 😃😃😃

The just refurbished RIU is very modern with an elegant flare. I really liked the white marble tiles. The staff are outstanding and they work hard to make your stay enjoyable. There was some construction noise from the hotel next door, but it did not bother me. The only thing I would improve upon is having a pillow menu. The mattress is perfectly fine but the pillows flatten quickly. Not enough pillow support for the neck. My compliments to the kitchen and dinning staff, they are outstanding.

All and all a great stay

Food was terrible. The options were horrible. Definitely not an all inclusive resort. Madeira was amazing

Just returned from a wonderful week with the family ranging from age 15 to 85. Best recommendations from all of us.

The hotel did not meet my expectations. As a younger generation both my wife and i were getting stared at by the older generation who was staying there and made us feel as if we did not belong there. At a point an older couple yelled at us very aggresively in a foreign language because we were out in our balcony having a conversation. We felt very uncomfortable after the incident and we decided to ask the front desk to move us to a different room. The overall service was not great compared to other all inclusive resorts that we have stayed at in the past where the staff has gone above and beyond to take care of us. As far as food, the buffet was decent we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner but we were not really satisfied with the food. When it came down to getting drinks the servers only picked up the empty cups and did not cater to the guests and offered to get refills or another drink. Overall i would not stay here again.

The property was nice and there is a free bus to Funchal. Handy for a day out. What I didn't like was being lied to. When I booked this trip we were flying with SATA, there was an issue with the plane and we ended up losing a day. from out holiday. So I called directly to the hotel to cancel the one night x 2 so I wouldn't be charged. The employee cancelled the day, or so I thought. When we arrived at RUI Mederia the head lady told us that there was a mistake made and the whole stay at the hotel was cancelled. Before we could check in we had to agree to pay for the rooms that were not used even though I had followed the process.
Very disappointed in RUI's handling of the situation. We never asked for the stay to be extended and understood that we were not entitled to an extra day. But, I wanted to be refunded for what was not used.

Awesome all inclusive, small scale so not as hectic and crowded as some all inclusives. Beautiful views of the ocean and excellent food!

Great resort! There was a little issue with a king size bed that I booked being called a request, but the staff was excellent and Maria rectified it quickly. She was great. Highly recommend Riu to anyone going to Madeira.

The staff are very pleasant and friendly. It is an older crowd that stay at this hotel so if you are looking to relax and enjoy this is the place for you. Buffett dining option can only go to other restaurant once per stay. But plenty of food options at buffet.

The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The hotel was immaculate and beautiful. The view was beautiful and it was in an extremely safe area. I (31F) felt completely safe leaving my patio door open all night long, walking around the resort, and off the resort. It was my favourite Riu so far!

Very nice and clean. I did not like I had to ask for the iron daily and indoor pool closed too early.

Fantastic stay! Great location with incredible views, very safe and quiet. Hotel looked very good and the food was fantastic. For sure one to return to!

The property was great. Great service, great buffet food, great rooms. Couple of things I didn’t were, one we had reservations for dinner and the food was not good, we should have stayed with the buffet food. The second one the charred us 4 euros for one phone call from our room to confirm our tour.

Comfortable and great food but entertainment lacking and spoilt by children running around and noise

Fantastic property, staff, food and location. We had a wonderful time and we found best in class service and entertainment. Stayed for 5 nights and 6 days all inclusive.
Would definitely return very soon. Highly recommended.

We have had the privilege of visiting the RIU resorts in Bahamas and Cancun, but there is no comparison to the exceptional and superb treatment we have received by the staff and management at Riu Madeira Hotel, in Canico de Baixo Madeira Island, Portugal
From the moment we walked into the door, the hotel is spotless, all white and gives a heaven like feeling. As soon as you walk in, David and Jessica greet you with a smile and go above and beyond to explain all the amenities in details about the hotel.
The buffet is amazing. It has the best and largest selection and varieties of foods, we have yet to see on the island. Also not to mention, Dinarte manager from the specialty restaurant who makes you feel like you are dining in a Michelin star environment. His professionalism and explanation of the culinary delights you will be served will surpass any expectations of your palette.
Don’t forget to not miss their lovely nightly entertainment, always very creative for the whole family.
Last but not least Bruno, from night reception who is there always a call away to help you with all of your needs. Of course, there is Paula the amazing manager that keeps the hotel staff team running like a fine tune machine.
My family and I, highly recommend this hotel. TEN STARS ALL THE WAY! You will not be disappointed.
They go above and beyond to make you feel at home and like family.
PS.
If you visit, tell them Ivan from Miami sent you.
