WE COULD NOT MAKE IT. WE ARE DISAPPOINTED

Graffiti in the parking garage, super ghetto and run down. I saw the garage and said "Im not staying here" disgusting.

I loved the ambiance. I stayed one night and wish I could stay longer. I will be back.

The staff at this hotel is what makes this my favorite in Durham.

Great restaurants within walking distance. The exercise room and sauna were really nice. Really enjoyed the art gallery as well. Overall great stay.

Room was ok until it wasn't. Avoid room 706 specifically. Its located right above the elevator shaft (travels to floors 1 -6 only). The elevator noise everytime its used is clear even while showering & you feel the vibration in the pillow once your in bed. AC was not functioning because apparently the thermostat in the room is not actually connected. We were told when your checked in the front desk must turn it on in thier system.

Our stay here was great. There are amazing art displays throughout the property. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and courteous. It really made our stay even better. Great location. Unique property. All around wonderful experience.

AC wasn’t working. Slept in a room that was 75 degrees

The woman that checked us in was very rude and charged us for an extra day so that we could check in early. With only two hours left on that day. I will never stay with your property’s again.

The room was pretty clean but there were a lot of scuff marks on all the furniture. Carpet was worn. Everything seems pretty outdated and tired. Lamps were disassembled. The hallway floor was visibly dirty, had tracks from carts and luggage. Looked sticky and was pretty off putting. The staff was great, particularly the valet. Downstairs vault was pretty cool. Breakfast was delicious.

Great service, very cool setting (in an art gallery with loads of interesting work to see). Hotel needs a little freshening- loose fixtures, scuffed furniture, missing lightbulbs. But really great people. I'd stay there again.

Good location, very different with the art work to look at, but the "king" room was mostly filled by the bed. Two people in the room was too much. Kept running into each other. Only one seat. AC and fridge were very noisy. Plus traffic, racing motorcycles, multiple trains going by, not a restful night.

I had an incredibly memorable trip at the 21c Museum Hotel, Durham. As an artist and a world traveller visiting this hotel for the first time, I was so moved by the beautiful way in which the museum combines my life's passion for meaningful art and exploration. Jonh Blanco, Museum Manager gave us an incredibly moving and inspiring tour of the hotel's current exhibit "Refuge: Needing, Seeking, Creating Shelter" that is so relevant in our contemporary world. I was so moved by Jonh's centering of curiosity and generosity to invite me and my dear friend to the Creative Mornings Durham's serendipitous gathering at the hotel the next morning - a beautiful immersive multi-sensory experience of connecting with and hearing from some of the most creative people in Durham. The artful experience from the check-in time to my room decor to the museum tour and the creative gathering made for one of the most refreshingly inspiring and creative hotel stays for me. Thank you Jonh and your entire team! I wish more hotels are so stunningly imaginative and welcoming!

Perfect place to stay if you are catching a show at DPAC. Just a 5 minute walk. Great bar in the hotel for after the show - lots of great restaurant choices within walking distance.

Not a bad place to stay at all. Everyone was very friendly. The museum and bank vault were very interesting. Location good -- just a short walk to the Durham Bull's baseball field, the Durham Food Court and other places of interest. The TV in my room did not work, but I wasn't there to watch TV.

Every employee I ran into was extremely pleasant.
The tour of the “Vault” was awesome. This place must’ve been an old bank.
Good location to walk the town.

The hotel is pretty well located in downtown Durham but it is showing it’s age; the ceiling light over the table turned off every 4-5 minutes before coming back on 30 seconds later, the mini-frig bubbled like an aquarium all night and the pull chain to raise and lower broke off in my hand the last morning I was there.

The Hotel was ok and the art was nice. The amount homeless people in the park next to the hotel was a bit concerning at night. Thats disappointing to see.

Perfect location, all the amenities you need, grear restaurant downstairs, and a little store across the street to stock the room. Perfect for business or pleasure stay. I always stay here.

Amy at the front desk is why I chose to come back to this hotel. I am staying there a week later to pick my daughter up from Duke and she was professional, warm, friendly, and extremely helpful with finding the most amazing restaurants. She was prompt with letting us know when our room was ready. Thank you Amy, I choose this hotel because of YOU.

I like the rooms and bathroom very much.
I did not like the food and menu on the restaurant
Even some employees told me not to eat on the restaurant since it was not good
I did like the bar.

Great service and convenient location. The art exhibits on the 2nd floor lobby were also great additions to the experience. Highly recommend the hotel’s restaurant, Counting House, for a nice dinner.

Having stayed in several 21C facilities and I was excited for this one. The hotel/restaurant/valet staff, art exhibits, food...were what I would expect from this line. The elevators, hallways and rooms really were a disappointment. It all just seemed dark and dingy. Sad to say, I don't desire to stay there in the future.

Gorgeous. Everything.

First rooms air conditioning didn’t work. After 2 nights, 3 calls for maintenance to fix it and 1 visit to the front desk, we were moved to another room. That room was right on the square and very loud. We could hear the music playing at neighboring hotels and/or the square. Very disappointing especially since we were traveling with our son. Had the opposite experience the last time I stayed at this hotel a year ago, but it has gone downhill. The hotel, overall needs maintaining. Only 1 working elevator to the higher floors and rooms. Area itself has such potential but unsafe given the homeless population. Accosted at all times of the day and could not enjoy even a walk across the street without being harassed.

We were here for American Dance Festival (ADF). The art work in this hotel is amazing and made the stay so unique and interesting. As a former office and bank building, the hotel itself is also very historically significant, as the architect for this building was, I believe, also the architect for the Empire State Building.
Our room was very clean and spacious. The staff was friendly. It was convenient to many things in town. It was within walking distance to some good eateries, as well, including Mateo, a Spanish tapas restaurant.

I rank my hotels with each star meaning something.
Cost, Convience/Amenities, Staff, Cleanliness/safety, and Style/structure
This hotel only gets 2.75 of my 5 stars. It's a 3 star hotel disguising itself as a 4 star.
BREAKDOWN:
Cost - no star - not worth the $215 paid for room and parking. On my way to RI, I had stayed in a hotel in Arlingron with a similar style. Their cost with parking was $175. If I could have stayed there again going back, I would have but wanted to try this hotel out of curiosity and was disappointed. For everything that I had experience and seen, I would only pay $150 for my stay and this includes mtly resort fee and parking (which was an addition $30 all together).
Convience/Amenties - .50 star -Parking was a huge inconvince for those with large luggage and kids. Positive is the location for the club goers. Sauna and other stuff was a good addition.
Staff- a whole star- cause they freaking rocked it ❤️
Cleaniness/Safety- .50 star, the bedroom and bathroom were clean the rubber duck was a good addition. However there were damages along the walls and floor that was either from incomplete maintenence or past visitors. Safety was definitely an issue when it came to the elevators and broken electrical appliances in the room.
Style/Structure - .75 - I almost give this a whole star, but with how thin the walls were I had to cut it. Now the style of the overall hotel is great. The concept was an art museum is great, but is missing some execution points
