Great hotel...very central and within walking distance of all amenities and attractions

Judges Court is excellently located to enjoy the centre of York. It is set back from the street, so it is quiet despite its central location. It is an interesting historical building with a complementary, quirky design scheme. We were very comfortable. There were a couple of issues that perhaps were unique to our room - the bathroom fan sounded like an air raid siren. This amused us but probably not any neighbouring room when we had to get up at 6 am. The coffee maker in our room did not seem to work properly. However, there was a kettle, so we just went with old fashioned instant.

Everything was good except for not having a toilet brush

We stayed Fri/Sat night in mid October in Room 11 which was up the main staircase and one of the rooms used for the judges - so super high ceilings and plenty of room. There was a coffee maker and plenty of tea/coffee/hot chocolate in the room as well as some biscuits - no wine/yorkies as other reviews mention but no complaints either!
Room was comfortable - but did get super warm during the night, not quite enough to put the fan on but that was available had we wanted to use it. We didn’t have any issues with the cleanliness, bathroom was fine and no problem in the bedroom either.
Hotel is really well positioned for exploring York - minutes away from Betty’s, the Shambles, the Minster and the Golden Fleece.
Only minor feedback we had was my partner decided to buy a couple of bottles of beer from the hotel fridge one night when we came back from our wandering (there is no bar/restaurant on site - think other reviews are getting mixed up with Judge’s Lodgings which is down the road!) and he was told they both had to be opened before he could bring them up to the room - which when he then decided he didn’t want the second one meant it was wasted as it had been opened so we couldn’t just stick it in a bag to take home with us. Other than that we were more than happy with our time at Judge’s Court.

Lovely stay here for two nights. Very comfortable room. Comfortable bed and fresh linen. Bathroom and shower spacious. Gorgeous white large fluffy towels. Staff very helpful on places to eat and very welcoming Hotel is situated near all the attractions. Short walk from train station. Highly recommended.

This place is great if you don’t have limited mobility! Service of night staff excellent and helped bring our bags up to the third floor with small staircase—It is a historically old building with wood beams and a courtyard to walk through to get to the hotel from the street. No parking on site as in pedestrian area—that walk to car park was .6 miles away—again difficult with a cane.
It was close to everything in old town York—7 minute walk to The Shambles, 40 seconds to nearest Starbucks, and all the sights/shopping was within 5-7 minute walk.
The hotel has a cool theme of being in Judges’ court with gavels for coat hooks and each room named after a different judge. Cool stay—would have been great had I been in my 30s and not with a cane.

Warm and welcoming. Very central. We dropped our bags in before check in. We went out for breakfast and left our bags at reception while we wandered around. The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was nice and quiet. The shower was good

Lovely quiet hotel set back from the Main Street with all the shops, restaurants and train station all within walking distance. We stayed here for a wedding and it was the perfect location and friendly staff.

Great little gem of a hotel that complements York and it's rich history. Will definitely be returning in the future

Good location, hard to find.

Attended a film festival at the nearby City Screen. The staff were brilliant, the location ideal and the hotel so full of character and atmosphere.

Me and the wife stayed here for her graduation and we loved it, the building is decorated with the history of the building in mind, bed is extremely comfy, location is in walking distance for everything, there’s no parking but Marygate is only a ten minute walk, we were woken at 6:30am due to people throwing kegs outside but that couldn’t be helped, overall we would stay again, we loved it.

OMG. I think this hotel is my very favorite of all the hotels I’ve ever stayed at in my entire life! The location could NOT be better! In the center of everything I wanted to see! The hotel/decor are AMAZING. Such a comfortable bed and perfect bathroom. The only thing that could make it better would be a mini fridge. Don’t hesitate…book it…it’s awesome!

Room was very comfortable and staff were friendly. I would absolutely return.

Lovely little hotel situated in the city centre of York. Easy access to shop, resturaunts and bars. Staff were helpful and gave directions to nearest car park. We had the basement room which was fantastic, only downside is the internet access in the lower floors are very weak. Not ideal if you’re there working as the connection drops out a lot.

Good central location. Interesting and historic building. Friendly and helpful staff. Decent sized room with comfy bed. Good shower. Good value for money.
Room could do with a bit of redecoration and furniture a bit tatty in parts.

This quirky and charming hotel is very well located near lots of shops and restaurants and the main sights. No restaurant or elevator in the hotel, or any common space, but the rooms are well appointed and there are good amenities (toiletries and tissues). We stayed in the "attic" area which had eaves and a sloping bathroom floor, plus a very narrow "servants" staircase to climb with our luggage. The room had character and everything we needed for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

It's a 300 year old building that has It's charm. However, getting a suitcase up the narrow
winding staircase is certainly challenging. No modern conveniences like elevators. The beds were very very hard. After some insistance, the staff gave me an extra duvet that I could use for padding. Most of the staff were great. We stayed late August/ early Sept and had to have the fan going 24/7. It would be boiling in the summer. Even though the location was excellent, I wouldn't stay there again.

Our room (no. 6) was directly adjacent to a beer garden on two sides which limited any feeling of privacy. The walls and ceilings are paper thin so we could hear conversations from rooms next to/above us until 3am, as well as someone being violenty sick at 9am on the Saturday of our stay. Room decor was rustic, bordering on uncared for in places where the paint or plaster was peeling/crumbling. Otherwise, location was great, staff were friendly.

Great location, comfortable bed.
Issues - we booked a double room. It was up 4 lots of stairs no lift. It was a killer. The room was boiling hot and it was like that for the three nights we stayed. The window only opens a little bit. A fan was provided but that kept us a wake all night. I would suggest if your going to book don't go for double, go for a bigger room.

Unique experience, lovely clean room, friendly staff

This hotel was a good hotel unfortunately no personal parking but parking around

The room was decent enough, the main issue was at 6am we were awoken to clanging and clattering in the courtyard right outside our room window. No idea what they were doing but absolutely not what you want when trying to enjoy a night away.
There was also a lot of noise from the foyer above and the windows themselves didn't lock, with access possible from the outside we didn't feel completely secure leaving our luggage in the room.

Large bedroom in a lovely old traditional property, really quiet yet right in the heart of York. Everything you need within a short walk

The staff were lovely and friendly. The hotel is hidden in an alley and difficult to find but next to a lot of shops. The location is a prime location for those staying in York. The room was cute but very small (stayed in the basement room).

We loved our stay here. It is very central but also where it is situated is quiet. The hotel has loads of history and character which we loved too. Our room had everyting that we needed, iron, hairdryer, Krups machine and also a kettle for making your own teas and coffees. Ethan who works on reception was really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely weekend In York. Beautifully Dickensian.
Perfect location in centre of town..hidden gem…have stayed several times now always perfect.
5.0
Delightful location in walking distance from all the places we wanted to visit. Pedestrian area, so parking was a half mile hike, but most of it was through a lovely garden. Staff was very congenial and helpful.
2.0
The location was excellent for walking around York and seeing all of the major sites. The entrance to the hotel is a very narrow alley. Don't look for a traditional entrance to a hotel. Beware there isn't any air conditioning. Another concern is that some of the rooms back up or overlook a restaurant so there isn't privacy or quietness due to windows needing to be left open for air circulation. The staff was very helpful and we never had a concern over safety or security. There isn't an elevator and navigating stairs with large luggage is a problem. The stairs are also on a slant so walk up them with care.

An absolutely brilliant find with this lovely quirky hotel. So much more character than a chain hotel. All staff extremely lovely and helpful and smiley. I would definitely stay here again . It’s right in the centre of town too so no long walks after a night out

Lovely convenient cozy hotel. Bit warm rooms as no AC but otherwise very good

Wonderful location, wonderfully old property with fun historical touches.

The vibe of the hotel is very unique and cool with the emphasis on all the previous judges of the area. They allowed us to store our bags there while we went out shopping and sightseeing which was fantastic! The room as well was very big and extremely comfortable.

Hotel location is excellent - centre of York. Room was very nice, comfy bed, high ceilings. No air conditioning but a fan was provided and with the window opened helped on a hot night. Bathroom (shower with no bath)was small and not in portion of the size of the room. Hotel did not offer any food and no bar but drinks can be purchased but not an issue since you are central of York. Room had no view. We have stopped here a few times and will continue to stay at this hotel.

Excellent location. Staff friendly a lot of culture hard to locate as you go via a small entrance probably my issue more than the hotel. Construction next door noisy
