About this house rental
ISLAND HOUSE: Log home on Yellowstone River with beach & fishing access out both back and front doors.
This fisherman’s paradise is located on an island in the Yellowstone River, just over a mile from historic downtown Livingston. Walk out the back or front door and cast your lines in one of the river’s two channels that frame the property. The slower west channel fronts a sandy beach where swimming, collecting petrified wood and agates, and watching big sky sunsets can fill your day. Deer, moose, and even bears are known to visit to eat from the apple tree out front.
The home has a well-appointed kitchen with everything a gourmet chef could need. There is a grill for barbecues on warm Summer evenings. Your group can gather around the large kitchen table or dine on the enclosed porch overlooking the river.
A stroll towards town, over the access bridge, and along the levee towards Main Street, brings you past Sacajawea Park, with tennis courts, several children’s playgrounds, barbecue shelters, and horseshoe pits. The vibrant downtown boasts a rich culinary culture, and the many art galleries and specialty shops allow for a fascinating stroll around the village. The sunsets, the mountains, and the night sky—smattered with brilliant stars amidst the backdrop of the Milky Way—make for unforgettable evenings.
At the end of your day, whether filled with angling adventures, rafting the river, hiking world-class trails, exploring Yellowstone Park, or simply taking in the natural beauty of your surroundings, return to your island refuge, and relax under the alpenglow of Livingston Peak next to the glorious Yellowstone. A short vacation here will show you the best that Montana has to offer.

If traveling in summer - be advised that home does not have a/c or fans in bedrooms. Apparently this is common in Montana (no central air). It’s right off the highway and the river area that you can play in is under the overpass. You can hear highway noise while inside the home. View out the front is beautiful but you cannot access the river due to steep riverbank. Eclectic & nude art throughout house. Shared driveway to apartment that was rented out as well. Owner was very kind & responsive but I would not recommend for families with young kids.
Other than that, we had everything that we needed. Location is few minutes to downtown Livingston, grocery store few minutes away. Kitchen was stocked as well as beach towels, bear spray, and bug spray. We used Livingston as home base for Yellowstone and it was easy drive.

Wonderful…perfect location and home!

Home is set on an island in the middle of the Colorado River from which you can admire spectacular sunsets and river activity. The house itself is warm and inviting with comfortable beds and a kitchen with every imaginable type of cookware. Well organized, too. We were met by Dana who showed us around and told us the history of the house and the remarkable family who built it. It’s a real find!!!

The place looked and sounded nicer online than it actually was

Loved this house! Yellowstone river on both sides, beautiful views and an easy bike ride into town. Only possible drawback was the highway overpass nearby, but when the widows were closed we didn’t even notice it. Dana was super helpful and had great suggestions on things to see and do. We will be back!

A great fit for our family of six!

We had a great stay at island house and with our children (teens and toddler). The access to the river and well equipped house made coming back from our daily adventures very relaxing. Being so close to Livingston made eating out and grocery shopping easy. We had plenty of space to spread out for 5 of us. There is some road noise from the nearby overpass, but it was barely audible from the house and didn’t keep us up at all. We will definitely recommend this house to friends and plan to stay here again when we come check out Yellowstone in the future.
