Stayed here for a nice romantic stay in Kyoto. Checking in you’ll be greeted with a friendly staff that will provide you with a tea ceremony as well as a tour of the facility.
The location is quiet, quaint and peaceful. It’s relatively close from the main Karasume Oike street where it’s on the other side of the busy streets/shops. There are nice izakaya and private dinner spots to walk by to.
And there’s a luggage transport that’s right around the corner

Over priced. It’s not worth that money

My kids didn’t want to go to public onsen so I booked this place for the outdoor bath. Even though it was hot and humid outside, the hot bath still felt wonderful after a long day of walking. They provide slightly scented bath salts for the bath and a cute garden to look at while you relax.
The place was smaller than it looked in the pictures but there was still plenty of room for 4. We stayed for 2 nights and it was perfect. It was fun to walk around Kyoto and then go home to what feels like a traditional house. There was shopping and restaurants within walking distance and a free washer and dryer to use.

This was truly a wonderful Japanese experience and one of the highlights of our trip. We did an 11 night trip to Japan and stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights and the Kyoto Machiya Fukune and it was everything we wanted and more. We felt like we got to genuinely immerse ourselves in the culture of Japanese living. We stayed with 4 adults— in theory we could’ve all slept on the western style beds but ultimately we tried out the tatami mats one night and each and did a bed swap. The tatami mats were actually extremely comfortable and I’m a fairly light sleeper. The outdoor bath was an incredible experience on a rainy evening. Everything was thought of here— from the little heater in the bathroom to the indoor/outdoor slippers. With only four townhomes tucked away off the street, it was quiet and peaceful. We were happy to stay here in the middle of our trip since they offer laundry. Keep in mind with the laundry, they are washer dryer combos and will take several hours to do a smaller load. Overall, it was worth every penny and we would love a chance to stay again in the future.

Our family had a wonderful stay here. It was such a spacious, comfortable, clean, quiet and beautiful house. We really enjoyed all the amenities included. The kids enjoyed making Matcha with the host. The huge selection of complimentary drinks in the fridge was a bonus. The private outdoor bath was perfect after a long day of walking. The beds and tatami are super comfortable. There is a laundry and luggage storage room which both came in handy. They really think of everything here.
Easy to get a hold of staff in case of emergencies. Location is fantastic. Easy to walk to Nishiki Market, Nijo castle, Imperial Palace and subway stations. Will definitely recommend this accommodation to everybody and stay here again in the future. It was Perfect!

The cultural experience of staying in a machiya was fantastic. The staff was so friendly and performed tea making with sweets. Wish we could have stayed longer. The location was within 20-25 min walking distance to all the events and locations we wanted to go to.

Wonderful wonderful property. We only stayed one night and it was not enough.
Great location off the beaten track but close enough to the subway and buses and also within walking distance to Nishiki and the main shopping area.
Our welcome was awesome, as was the breakfast. The complementary drinks are a really nice touch.
A really beautiful building, my seven year old nephew wanted to live there! Lovely outside bath, great inside bathroom with a wooden bath tub.
We could not fault this wonderful local business - just don't stay for just one night!!

A Serene Retreat in Kyoto
My stay at Kyoto Machiya Fukune was a serene and unforgettable experience. The traditional Japanese townhouse exuded charm and tranquility. Arisa and David warm hospitality and attention to detail were exceptional. The ofuro, traditional soaking tub, was pure bliss. The location was perfect for exploring Kyoto's cultural treasures. The amenities provided were impeccable. I highly recommend Kyoto Machiya Fukune for a relaxing and memorable stay in Kyoto.

Not only is the machiya gorgeous, the staff running the property are incredibly kind. They go above and beyond to help you, and are always a phone call away to answer any questions, whether you speak Japanese or English. 10/10 stars!!

Amazing hotel. Book any room if you get the chance. It's very clean and modern without detracting from the traditional machiya experience. Very nice outdoor bath if you want a private hotbath experience. Double bed and tatami floor with a futon if you want to have a traditional sleeping experience. 10/10

A machiya experience is a must when you visit Kyoto. Machiya Fukune perfectly balances a traditional home with modern conveniences. It was such a beautiful and indescribable experience, I can only urge others to try it for themselves.

After checking in, we get to enjoy matcha with small sweets prepared by the machiya staff. There are many restaurants nearby and easy access from the Kyoto station.

This is a beautifully presented Japanese townhouse nestled down an alley off the road. The property manager and staff are very welcoming and we received a welcoming tea ceremony. Excellent.

The layout and the atmosphere inside the hotel was phenomenal.
Excellent customer service. Keith and Amy went above and beyond and really made us feel welcome. They tried to accomodate our different schedule as well when they didn't have to and really took the time to speak with us. They added a great quality to the stay.

Great place to stay during our first visit to Japan. Overall had a fantastic experience. The room is beautiful and very comfortable. The only complaint we had is our experience with the check-in process was horrible, it shouldn't be that difficult.

Great location, central to everything, good condition of town house, not sure what the spare room was used for though as it had one instrument in and that was it. Bathing facilities were nice but there were a few mosquitos which put a small dampner on it (though the air con was great).
