Great hotel for a night's stay but especially the staff. All very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the theming of it too.

Amazing hotel, location could not be better, i booked the hotel parking which was perfect, they parked my car right outside the hotel front door. You will not be disappointed.

We had a fabulous stay at Malmaison. The staff and service was really good and the decor and ambiance of the place is perfect . The authenticity and decor is fantastic and its location is perfect. We loved the little museum show cell , which showed how the cells were originally. A nice little touch. We also ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious. .

First time staying in a hotel renovated from an old prison. Good experience staying here. Breakfast is superb.

Great accommodation. Very interesting & feels very unique. Standard of refurb is very high. We stayed in the house of corrections. Very comfy, warm & quiet. Great staff, very friendly & alway there to help. We arrived earlier than our check in time & we were allowed in check in early which was great! Walking distance to Oxford centre, with lots of shop & lively pubs/restaurants.

We were able to check in early, which was very appreciated! Initially we were given a room that smelled bad, but when I spoke to the front desk they immediately offered to move us to another room. Very happy with the attentiveness of the staff and the quality and comfort of the room. Location is perfectly situated in Oxford.

The hotel was lovely and clean, the first room had noisy cold air blowing out, cold room, but hotel were very quick to move us into a bigger much warmer room,,
Barman bit rude almost telling us we couldn’t eat as busy,, however very lovely waitress got us a table,, half way through starter mains arrived couldn’t eat soup, mac lobster was awful, pasta had the guts boiled out of it hardly any cheese sauce lobster bisque poured over the top was very brown, not presented very well, partners steak over cooked, chips were great,, they gave us discount,, now breakfast was beautiful so delicious well cooked lots of choice of drinks juice coffees teas cakes and hot menu was fantastic,,

Great hotel, original and stylish.

Great stay, in a non-cell room. The location of the hotel couldn’t be better. Close to the sites as well as the bus terminal. The only minor issue was with a sink and shower that wouldn’t drain properly. (They tried unsuccessfully to fix.) I would have to mention though, the cost of the continental breakfast was outrageous, at 22£ each.

Everything was amazing.
Attention to detail, in the room, from the carpet to the tv stand , the window shutters, the cell doors.

Great how they have converted rooms and used decor in rooms relating to prison theme. Disappointed in the bar relaxing area: only options were to sit at the bar or in a small room with upright tables and chairs. No settees to relax with a drink.

Absolutely amazing hotel, great staff and very clean! Definitely recommend if planning a stay in Oxford!

it's a great place to stay and is close to everything! only problem was that I didn't find out until I checked in that I was in the annex. I wanted to be in the actual prison. Luckily they were able to upgrade me to a prison room without a problem but please be aware when you book.

Nice experience

Hotel and staff was OK. The hotel needs some refurbishing in the rooms. However, overall it was okay.

Although the concept is great, ‘staying in an old prison’, the hotel it’s self is over priced for what you get.

Really nice, an old prison.. wow soo cool. nice staff, easy parking, right in tha heart of Oxford. Just a perfect plase

Perfect placement, close to everything.

This was a wonderful place! We stayed 3 nights. We had booked into a cell room. The first night, because windows can't be opened, and no AC (listed building, so can't make those changes apparantly) my husband had some clostrophobic feelings overnight. I told reception, and they very kindly were able to change our room, which had AC and able to open balcony door.
Food was excellent, we stayed on half board and would really recommend this option!

Excellent location and great service, the valet parking chap with blonde hair was extra focused on customer service

We booked it due to the history of the property, but got a little disappointed, despite the cool temperatures outside, the rooms were hot and have no AC. The design is dated, could be polished to make it a unique boutique hotel.
3.0
Sadly the room albeit an "upgrade" had a unit inside as there was no AC. The unit made a dreadful noise all night, so was turned off. The room then became unbearably hot.

My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary with a night in a Club Cell Room here. The room was in the main part of the prison and had been beautifully converted from 3 of the former cells.
We loved everything about the hotel from the setting, room, staff and food.
One small negative was the fact that the air conditioning was dripping but it didn’t ruin our stay and we reported this on leaving so hopefully it will be fixed ready for future guests.

What a fantastic place to stay. Okay no A/C and windows don’t open but for the experience of staying in a prison cell , it was well worth it.
Excellent facilities and friendly staff.
Parking sounds expensive but all parking in Oxford is expensive and you are right in the town centre. Definitely return.

A1 hotel , perfect location to the city , could not fault anything . :-)

Stunning hotel that is close to everything. The absolute best location in Oxford. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant is excellent. No complaints. Highly recommend.

Beautiful location. Former “cell” room was unique but retained no hint of the original purpose of the room. An odd thing - no mirror close by an outlet for using a hair dryer. Having stayed on a weekend in July we paid top dollar which I would avoid at all costs were I to return. Better signage of the entrance is needed. We circled the block a couple of times and had to call for precise directions. Once on the property however we were warmly greeted at the door and directed to next steps.
Breakfast was great. Dinner options also excellent.

A good and clean hotel in an optimal location. The hotel has historic and nice atmosphere. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Lovely hotel, super close to the town centre, great restaurant, very quiet and super friendly staff

We spent a night in a cell room in the A wing and really enjoyed the unique decor and interesting building, the ambiance in the bar and restaurant, location of the hotel and the complimentary glass of Prosecco on arrival.
Minor cons but they didn’t spoil our stay: Shower temperature control was very temperamental, there was an unpleasant drain smell coming from the sink in the morning, and the potato croquettes at breakfast weren’t great.
A warning to fellow tall people: The bed head design resulted in our feet hanging over the end of the bed, which was a bit perplexing in a king size bed until we realised why!
The bus for the Oxford park and ride stops just 2 minutes from the hotel, which is convenient if you’d rather use the park and ride than the valet parking at the hotel.

Everything was exceptional. Only negative is that our room was hot with no a/c. Instead we had a fan that did its best but not ideal

Those staying at Malmaison in the summer should be aware that the rooms do not have A/C, except for the suites.

Great rooms in the old prison and location is perfect to explore Oxford

Had a good stay at the Malmaison in Oxford. Good location in city centre (10 min walk from train station, 5 min walk from Westgate shopping centre).
The breakfast and bar was nice, though service was a little slow. I think more staff would be beneficial, especially on weekends.
I stayed in the House of Corrections section. The rooms were nice, but it wouldn't be great for someone with accessibility issues as there's no lift and it's separate from the main building (have to go outside to access it and go down some stairs). Bear this in mind if you have luggage. It can also be noisy outside as there's an outside area for dinner and drinks plus bins going out etc.
Overall, it was a great stay and it was cool seeing a former prison reformed into a hotel. I'd like to stay here again, but I'd stay in the main part of the hotel instead (A-Wing).

Room was extremely hot, no AC and no windows. It was a converted prison cell. I now know what prison life is like but coat me £250
