About this apartment rental
Downtown Chesterton private apartment. Walk to parks, dining, shopping, taverns, winery, European market, and more. Only 3 miles from sand beaches & hiking trails at Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana dunes National Park. Apt has living, dining, full kitchen, large bedroom w/King bed, large jet bath & fireplace, and bathroom. Living room has 58" smart tv and L shaped couch that sleeps 2. Glider and gas grill outside too.
The Space
Our apartment is located in our downtown commercial building a short walk to all the downtown activities, parks, dining, shops, taverns brewery, winery, and European market. It is only 3 miles from the sand beaches on Lake Michigan at the Indiana Dunes State Park and the hiking trails of the Duens State Park and Dunes National Park. We are 1 hour from Chicago and South Bend.
The apartment has an entry, living room, dining, kitchen, large bedroom, and bathroom with shower. The living room has an L shape couch that can sleep two. There is plenty of room on the floor in the living room or bedroom to throw an air mattress or sleeping mats if you need to sleep a total of 6.
Please be aware the layout is that of a New Orleans style apartment. That means that there is no hallway. It flows from entry to living to dining to kitchen to bedroom to bathroom. One has to walk through bedroom to get to bathroom.
The living room has a 58" smart Roku tv and extra pillows and blankets for anyone to sleep on the couch.
The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, cookware, dishware, glassware, and silverware. It has a stove, microwave, full size frig, Kuerig, tea pot, and toaster. Kuerig pods provided too.
The large bedroom has a walkin closet, king size bed, makeup counter, another large smart tv, and a large jet tub with fireplace.
Wifi throughout. Glider and gas grill are outside the front door. There is a laundromat across the street and a large park with splash pad and play equipment 1 block behind the apt. The sidewalk around the park is .9 mile if you want to get your exercise in.
Other things to note.
This apartment is downtown Chesterton. As such, there is traffic and train noise that could disturb some guests. White noise and/or ear plugs really help. We provide ear plugs in the nightstand by the bed.
We use plug in Scents. Though most people like the fresh smell, we've learned that a few people are very sensitive and don't like them. If you want us to unplug them before your stay, just let us know.

Don was very easy to communicate with and willing to help! Perfect location for Indiana Dunes. The Jet tub was great!

This was the perfect spot for visiting friends in the area. Close to the beach, restaurants, shopping, etc. Host was very easy to get ahold of. The place looked exactly like the photos and matched the description perfectly.
Other reviewers complained about traffic/train noise. I didn't notice that at all. My suggestion is to pack earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

This is a great location for state park beaches. The apartment was clean, we felt safe and the whirlpool tub ended the day with a relaxing, sleep inducing treat.

Apartment was spacious and in a convenient location to area restaurants and the park. Our family enjoyed our stay!

We pulled up to the 'corporate' building apartment. The glider and grill are right at the edge of the street sidewalk. Once inside everything was as the web pictures described.
But as we entered the bedroom we noticed an odd smell, and once in the bathroom the smell was overwhelming. It smelled like mold. One of us started gagging and couldn't breath. There were two air purifiers in the apartment with one being in the bedroom.
We contacted the host and stated that we could not stay and breath such strong odors. He commented that they had never had water issues. Maybe the smell was from the 'area' that led off the bathroom where a locked door was. He offered their home, but we had no idea what it was like or if cameras were in place - did not feel comfortable.
The insurance we purchased did not cover this situation and we were out the money for the three nights.

My husband and I stayed for two nights while on a business combined with pleasure trip. The jetted tub was a great perk in this spacious apartment! The king size bed was very comfortable — woke up feeling refreshed!

We had a good stay overall, but the cleaning staff was still working when we arrived at check-in time. The cleaning staff returned to remove cleaning supplies without our knowledge while we were bathing in the adjacent room. We noticed the missing supplies but were not notified of the staff’s return. We brought up the privacy concern to the host a few days later after we checked out of the apartment. The host apologized and said that he instructed the staff to return to finish cleaning, but if privacy is a priority, you may feel more comfortable at a different listing.

The property is in a great location- plenty of shops and food places you can walk too HOWEVER, the hours of these vary. Make sure to plan ahead that they will be open.
Owner reached out halfway through our stay to make sure we didn’t need anything. The coffee maker was broken and he replaced it the same day.
Property owners talk about how they charge a very minimal fee for cleaning unlike other hosts, which you can tell. Their cleaning fee is for washing bedding/towels and “sterilization”. You could tell the floors have not been vacuumed for a long time. I messaged the host to get a vacuum cleaner. He then acted like it was my responsibility to vacuum, which I don’t mind, but he had it hidden in a locked closet and didn’t say anything about it until I asked.
Also this property is right beside a train track- if you’re a light sleeper, you will be woken up multiple times throughout the night.

We stayed at this property one night while passing through the area. It was a good and affordable resting spot for the night - king-sized bed was very comfortable and location was very convenient for visiting the Dunes National Park and the cute downtown Chesterton. The property description is accurate - very close to the active train tracks, but the ongoing sounds didn't bother us too much. The exterior entrance did not have the best curb appeal, but we were satisfied with the accommodations within for our needs.

The downtown apartment was in an ideal location. We were within walking distance of restaurants and parks. As described, it is not much to look at from the outside, but the inside is spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

I enjoyed my stay here, especially the comfortable mattress and jacuzzi tub to unwind and watch a movie at the end of the day. The living room, dining room, and kitchen had a strong ammonia odor that smelled like a cat had sprayed often for a long time, and then carpet and/or paint was put over it. I did not spend time in that area of the rental at all other than to heat up some food and eat it in the bedroom.

My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem on our travels and fell in love with this little town and it's surroundings! I wanted to bring her back to celebrate her birthday and brought her to their annual wine festival. Romantic vibes throughout. Everything was in walking location of the event and a short drive to many nearby attractions. Super fun packed weekend! We loved the vacation rental! Spacious rooms. Biggest rental the size of a one bedroom with plenty of amenities. I was impressed with the kitchen...a cooks best friend. Everything was already provided if we had decided to have a meal in. The spa tub with jets was a added bonus. Comfortable bed. Clean. We will be staying in the future. Don & Kim were great. Everything went smooth! Thank you for a wonderful experience...

Thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi tub while watching a movie and eating dinner. The bed was very comfortable. I appreciated previous reviews of the musty smell and noise of trains. We came in and immediately opened the windows and enjoyed the sound of the trains.
Only had a few hours at night to enjoy a few of the local bars. Wish we would have had more time to experience the town. We did get to enjoy a few hours the next morning at the National Park.
Hosts were very accomodating to our needs, highly recommend.

The place is quirky, in a good way, and very comfortable. Location is terrific for the State Park Beach. I’m sure fitter people will enjoy what the national park has to offer. Nearby restaurants are wonderful.

Cute little apartment perfect for a couple to enjoy for the night. We enjoyed the jacuzzi tub and fireplace with it. Easy location and hosts were super good with communication. Great location close to the dunes.

Don was super responsive, easy to work with, and a great host. Neat little town, and though the trains are a bit much at night if you’re not used to them, they are what makes the town unique. Close to the small, vintage shops and local eating places, too!

We needed a place to stay near Indiana Dunes National Park and this little place fit the bill. We enjoyed walking into the little downtown area to eat dinner and even did a wine tasting. Spent a lovely day on the beach (?!) The little second hand/antique shop 2 blocks away is worth visiting and the coffee at The Red Cup was excellent. We visited the Duneland Distillery and had a huge breakfast at Blueberry Hill Pancake House in Portage.
I am very sensitive to smells and the apartment had a musty/moldy smell to me. This would probably not bother most people and was minimized by keeping the windows open. The apartment is adjacent to a martial arts studio, but nothing was going on while we were there. Also be aware of the MANY trains that run through the center of this little town at all hours. We were happy that we had brought our earplugs and the owner thoughtfully provides them for guests who may not travel with them.

My wife and I absolutely loved this place! We don't even want to tell anyone about, we just want to keep it to ourselves. 🤣 Just kidding. It was perfect for a romantic getaway. We loved the location and the town. It was a nice quiet neighborhood with close access to everything. We'll definitely
be back in the summer!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!

My boyfriend and I were looking for something different and romantic for New Year's Eve, and the jacuzzi and fireplace in the bedroom were perfect.
Before our trip, I had asked if they had an iron, and they responded promptly that they do, but didn't have an ironing board. We didn't need an ironing board, but before I had a chance to thank them, I got another message saying they went out and bought an ironing board. That was completely unnecessary, but very appreciated!
My only suggestion would be to add a few wine glasses and champagne flutes to the kitchen cupboards.
Great stay overall!
