The Space:
This stunning home is only 4 blocks from the Eastern Market metro station (be sure to check out the Market itself, open Saturday & Sunday), 3 blocks from Trader Joe’s, and two blocks from a large splash pad and enclosed playground (perfect for kiddos)! There is high-speed wifi, 2 SmartTV's, and a washer and dryer also available for your use.
We can comfortably sleep 7 guests;
~ Queen sized bed in the primary bedroom.
~ Bunk bed in the second bedroom (twin and full sized mattresses), in addition to a single bed.
~ The third bedroom (which doubles as an office) includes a pullout sofa bed.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire unit, with 24/7 access by use of an electronic keypad door. The apartment is not shared, but there are other tenants who live downstairs, so we do ask that guests are mindful of sound traveling late at night and early in the morning.
The Neighborhood:
The star of the neighborhood is the Eastern Market, which is about 4 minute walk from the home. It is a 19th-century brick building that houses a wide range of stalls from fresh food, local produce, art and crafts, fresh flowers, baked goods, candles, to artisan cheeses and unique DC souvenirs. It is a perfect place to find a little something to remember your trip by.
Capitol Hill Books, located right in the middle of the market, is our personal favorite preowned bookstore. It's cramped with towers of books from floor to ceiling, it feels magical!
Within 5 minutes walk from the home, the Barracks Row is teeming with amazing restaurants, lively and unique bars as well as a plethora of entertainment options - from Miracle Theater, Art gallery, to beautiful street murals on every corner; those interested in the arts or just looking to see something new will not be disappointed!
Aside from being so close to the United States Congress, Capitol Hill is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington DC, stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential communities in Washington, and, with roughly 35,000 people in just under 2 square miles (5 km2), it is also one of the most densely populated.
You're also a very short walk, bus, metro or Uber ride from a number of other neighborhoods not to be missed; including The Wharf, Chinatown, Gallaudet University, and the Navy Yard.
Getting Around:
By Metro/ Bus – The closest metro is Eastern Market (orange, silver, and blue line), you can walk there in just 4 minutes (0.2 mile). We are located within just a few blocks of the DC Circulator bus that operates on a predictable fixed route and schedule, and run between the city's main attractions and some of the more popular neighborhoods for visitors.
You can catch the DC Circulator bus at the Eastern Market Metro Station. In addition, we are 1-3 blocks away from several Capital Bikeshares and bus lines, including the 32, 36, 90, 92 and more!
You can buy SmarTrip tickets (like plastic credit cards) or paper tickets at the station, the SmarTrip cards give a better rate per ride than the paper tickets. (Ask for senior rate if applicable).
By Bike: - Capital Bikeshare offers bikes for rent by the hour or day and are available near the Eastern Market Metro: Pennsylvania Ave & 8th St SE, and the intersection at 11th St & C St SE.
Capital BikeShare ((1-877) 430-BIKE (2453).
