Location is very ideal for Georgetown exploring.
Blackout curtains are great, and no sounds from the city despite room by main road.
Breakfast is great. I always love the nasi lemak, teh tarik and congee, and I’m local myself. They have a fair amount of spread. Not large but comely. Lastly, the have heated toilet seats.
I have stayed at George in April 2023, and returned again in July 2024 for a birthday. There was no special touch like cake or message or towel art in the room like other 5 star hotels would do.
Cleanliness has really taken a hit. My bed sheets had stains and should have been changed. Overall feel of cleanliness of the room and bathroom has dropped from my last visit. Sink and bathroom could be cleaner, along with the tile grout too. The toilet seat comes with rear cleaner, and the rear cleaner itself was gross, with sh*t stained marks and just looked very gross in general.
The pool area smells like wet, cheesy socks. And that’s where our room was. However luckily the smell did not permeate into our room.
Also, very misleading booking photos. I booked an executive deluxe, and there were bath tub photos in the thumbnail photos to show you what you were booking. Upon checking in, there was not a tub in my room. I went down to complain and they said it’s only by availability. I booked the room because I had loved their bath tub previously. I did not want to stay if they couldn’t provide me a bathtub experience. They managed to swap me out to a different room, from the original 5th floor room with no bath tub to a 2nd floor room with tub, on the same floor as the pool. They should be very clear with their bookings. Make separate bookings for executive with and without tub so it does not confuse guests who are trying to book a tub experience.
I don’t think I will return here. Which makes me very sad, as I did fall in love with this hotel in 2023.

We booked 7 rooms, and all of us love the friendliness of your staff and they are very approachable too. The room size was lovely and adequate. Location is superb. It was a short stay due to our work commitment, such a pity.

The room was huge and everything was brand new. The service was outstanding and the Hotel building itself is a piece of art.
The breakfast needs more variety and the taste was average of the items available. The pool water is too cold and needs to be regulated.

Service was very poor. It felt like some local hotel not a 5 star service. We checked in at 2pm and asked if we can get the room little early and their front office said if you want I can give a smelly room. I was like wtf. Their restaurant staff is also bad. Overall bad service!

We loved that it was clean and the location was strategic. Walking distance to Campbell Street with about 5 minutes walk and Beach Street area with about 15 minutes away.
Rooms are pretty spacious as well, quite a lot of space to manoeuvre around.
There’s also parking available, hence, can park and then walk around or take a Grab to travel around.

The hotel was immaculate. So clean and fresh. The staff were so friendly and kind, and the check-in process was very quick. The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of Georgetown.

The location is superb. The room design nice too
The house keeping was not done properly. On the first day upon checking in I had realised that there’s 1 robe that have a unpleasant smell thus I removed from the hanger. After I return to the room and found that the same smelly robe was hang back up without changing.

Wonderful stay at The George. Beautiful hotel, well appointed, very clean and had professional and helpful staff. The hotel exceeded my expectations. It was a short walking distance to practically everything and the room was spacious and beautiful tailored. Lots of amenities (robes, razor, etc) and also enjoyed the pool area and steam room.
Everything was fantastic aside from three small things:
1. The air conditioning went off when you take your key out of the door slot but it didn't automatically turn back on when you returned so you have to do it each time you come and go.
2. the door to the hotel room didn't fully shut on its own so I always had to remember to pull it closed.
3. The way the pool is set up in the middle of the rooms if kids are making a lot of noise it echoes through the hotel. I wasn't even on the main pool corridor and I could still hear them in my room. This is more a comment on parents not supervising their kids than the hotel- it only happened once in three days.

the swimming pool was really cold because it is indoors and sheltered and not suitable for children. not really a kids friendly hotel.

Location is exceptional. Centre of everything and within walking distance to restaurants, cafes and places of attractions.
The housekeeping requires immense improvement. Generally, the bathroom and bedroom are not cleaned very well. Hotel is new therefore need to upkeep and maintain well.
The bar needs improvement with the choices of snacks and beverages. Will be really excellent if nuts can be provided to complement drinks.

This is a modern, nicely decorated hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was very powerful. The pool is a nice addition, however...
...this is not a 5* hotel. The room was not cleaned during our stay and simple.things were not attended to (like only one towel for two of us - we raised this and nothing was done, in the end we took one from the gym).
Staff were not rude, but were inattentive and did not give the warm welcome and service you receive all over Asia, especially in a 5* hotel.
Finally, the room was very noisy. The deluxe king rooms all appear to be adjoining meaning there is a paper thin door separating them. We could hear everything in the room next door, including the person snoring. This is unacceptable in an alleged 5* hotel.
Overall, very disappointed.

The couch in the room has a louse! I just sat on for over 3 minutes, and I was beaten by a louse.

understaffed and even the remaining staff are clearly inexperienced and not equipped to coupe with even the very basic situations. In particular, the checkin was a complete chaos where the staff spent long time processing, with print-outs instead of digital forms, and ended up in giving us the wrong room. And on top of this all even this wrong room is not cleaned.

Location is amazing in the centre of historic Penang. Structurally the hotel has a lot of potential and was designed very well to maintain the colonial theme. The bar is stunning
Staff were generally nice and friendly but many of them require a lot ( I mean a lot) of training. Check in process was a mess and everyone seems to be in a panic. I was downgraded to a lower tier room (without informing me until I asked) claiming problem with the room and if I hadn’t raised the RM 300 difference, they wouldn’t have mentioned it. Apparently no senior people on site and they have to get back to me to see how I will be refunded the difference.
Maintenance of the rooms also requires a lot of work. It’s clear there is no onsite maintenance team if the room problem was legit.. the rooms I was given, lots of details ignored such as paint job pealing off, room door not closing problem for a suite amongst other things.
Overall experience and product is definitely not a 5 star hotel it claims to be.

Дизайн номера жуткий. Комната темная. оттого кажется маленькой и неуютной. Мест хранения практически нет. Уборщики забывали то полотенца на смену положить, то халат унесли... И ,кончно, уборка номера оставляет желать лучшего. Залог за номер 200 ринггит(!!!) при полной предоплате.

The staff we ok but could have done more to make us feel welcome and know about the area. We actually went to lunch in a nearby hotel and they went out of their way to explain all the places to visit even though we were only eating there

The George at Penang (Georgetown) was lovely hotel. We chose it for the location. It was a bit pricier than our normal haunts but the money spent wasn’t wasted. We had an upgraded room which was very spacious, extremely comfortable bed and bedding. A lovely pool and a superb ambience. It definitely was classier than us.
Our room was near a nightclub and there was some unwanted music late into the night but…. I am an incredibly light sleeper and it only disturbed me a couple of times during our 5 night stay. Even then, it wasn’t particularly loud. The building structure and glazing kept the most of the noise out. Put tv on to volume 5 and all was fine until I fell asleep again. I am a very light sleeper though. My wife didn’t even notice it.
