Good location and staff very friendly.
15 beatiful cats in the hotel. Good view to the vulcan.
It cost too much to arrive there and to come back to sao filipe. We have payd (2 pax) 2.000 cve to go (because it was the pre-fixed time “collectivos” at 11,30) but to come back next day we pay 6.000 cve becouse there was no other passeggers (the car was the same and the driver is the hotel’s owner)
A lot of mosquitoes.

Jose made us feel really at home. He is a special person with a big heart for the environment and the venue. He runs and made it all by himself. Give yourself a real experience of how life is on the caldeira and stay here.

Room was clean and spacious.
The owner asked to borrow my hire car to go to the shops which I didn't appreciate. He gave me terrible directions for climbing the mountain which led to me having to go up by a long path of loose sand on the SW of the mountain instead of the more stable route on the nw.. Dinner was terrible - massively overcooked chicken and vegetables.

Jose is a great host. He took us around Fogo to see these really amazing places. The room was very comfortable, toilets and bathrooms very clean. There was always hot water running from the bathroom taps when needed. I was really thrilled by the craftmanship in the buildings . Jose used larva to build the house, and used recycled bottles in building part of the walls of the bathroom, so much sustainability on display . Jose was also very helpful when i needed to book a last minute flight back to Praia. Thank you Jose

the property is very unique! Jose (the owner) built it entirely out of lava rock! It has great views of the volcano. The food was yummy & Jose was great and very helpful. He took us on a sunrise tour of the volcano which I would highly recommend!

The place is absolutely fabulous, the view to Pico de Fogo makes it even more unbelievable. The creativity with the vulcanic walls is really nice too, makes you feel you are on another planet. José is an interesting guy, with lots of energy and creativity he really wnts to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It is also really nice to meet other travellers staying here, we had some really great conversations.
As mentioned by others, José is sometimes unavailable, and most of the time we didn't know when he will be back. For example we talked via booking and discussed our arrival time and date. When we arrived at the place, literally no-one was there, we managed to get in with a little trick and settled down inside to wait for José for hours, while he didn't picked up the phone or respond to any message, not even on whatsapp or booking. This wasn't really that bad for us, but you have to expect things like this if you visit the place. Somebody stated in the reviews here that you have to be flexible to handle these things, I find this to be correct.

stylish rooms, nice view from terrace, local decorations, hot water, exceptional dinner from the host!
no wifi, you have electricity not every time, it’s cold in the room, maybe they need to offer some heaters

Comfortable, not cold to sleep even though I didn't have proper clothes. There is electricity, running hot water. The food was very tasty.

He has made the place as sustainable as possible... you will hear early as early as 6 a.m. stepping around the yard, to pick up woods, to start the fire to warm up the metal barril of water, with a ingenious water system... prepare Breakfast and for 500 cve extra per day, you will have a tasty self-prepared dinner by him; help in the kitchen or cooking extra's is fine with him.
Electricity is limited.... especially for charging your cellphones, there are not enough hours to get your mobile fully loaded.
He switches on electricity from 6 p.m. till around 9 p.m. and from 06.30 a.m. he will turn it on till he leaves.

I like the creativity in the building and to cop with the local difficulties (water, cold, power). Jose manage to offer water in bathroom, even hot water if he's around to heat the water, and power (solar was out of order but generator is on by evening).
As he runs the place alone and he can be busy by others activities (guiding tour for ex), the services are not regular and 24h/day.
The "welcoming" notices stating that we better cancel and go away if we are not agreeing with his rules (breakfast at 8am for instance) make me feel unconfortable and confused as another notice said that the welcome is warm, most walks and transports are before 8am, and the 2nd day I had my breakfast the eve before because he will be away for the beeakfast.
