About this house rental

Stunning olive mill, built in 1764, sensitively restored & converted by the architect owner into a well appointed, spacious & comfortable house. Sleeps 11 people, perfect for 2 families, as there are 2 kitchens! The large 12 x 6m. heated salt water pool is set within a delightful walled courtyard garden, with a selection of terraces & lawns for al-fresco eating, sunbathing, games & relaxing. Electric gates give access to the house, secure parking & the secluded 2,200 sq.m garden which includes a meadow area. A peaceful location to get away from it all, yet only a couple of minutes' stroll into the centre of Lorgues with its famous market, shops & range of restaurants. The mill enjoys wonderful views over the village to the Maures mountains. This beautiful area is set between the mountains & the Mediterranean sea - perfect for touring. There are many historic villages & famous Provencal vineyards close by.

Access to the house: The main auto route, the A8, is just 20 minutes away so Nice, Cannes, Aix en Provence, are all about an hour's drive. Monaco and Italy are an easy day's outing or you could take a trip to Corsica by ferry from Nice. Toulon-Hyeres, also an hour's drive to our house, is a hassle-free provincial airport served by Ryanair, or alternatively fly into Nice or Marseille with a wide choice of airlines. The SNCF railway station at Les Arcs, which is 15 minutes from the house, provides fast connections to Paris (TGV 5 hours). If you prefer there is an overnight Motor rail service from Calais/Lille to Nice allowing you to bring your own car and let the train take the strain!

Lorgues facts: Lorgues is a town of just under 10,000 inhabitants, built up around a walled medieval core. Built on a south-facing hillside, ‘a village perché’, it is dominated by an enormous and imposing church – la Collégiale St. Martin – very visible, as you get close!
The town dates from the 10th century, and has an intriguing history in relation to the Crusaders. The church was built in the 15th century. The narrow streets of the old village, enclosed by crumbling walls, and some beautiful towers, are worth exploring; especially as there are fountains and interesting old buildings dotted around. The main street, a rather grand tree lined boulevard, Boulevard Georges Clémenceau, is modelled on the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. Plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants there to relax in
Our olive mill was one of 6 on this street, located to use the water from the open culvert(La Canal) which ran down the street.

Shopping and restaurants: Shopping: There are markets at Lorgues (Tues), Aups (Wed & Sat), & Salernes (Sun) and a very large Sunday Provencal market at Le Muy by the auto route (A8). The two nearest Carrefour hypermarkets are at Draguignan & Trans en Provence, and there is HyperU near Les Arcs. Smaller supermarkets (Intermarche and Casino) are open on Sunday mornings in Lorgues, and most of the surrounding villages. Draguignan, the former capital of the Var, with its impressive county hall, provides a rich variety of individual shops, where you can buy clothes, handmade chocolates, pastries, and gifts. There is also a theatre, cinema, ten pin bowling and visiting funfairs. All the surrounding villages have a number of restaurants, serving primarily French cuisine. From the renowned Michelin-starred truffle restaurant Chez Bruno near Lorgues, to family-run French restaurants all offering 'le menu' or a la carte. For a change there are Chinese restaurants and pizza takeaways

Our family spent a wonderful week here at the end of June. The house and the grounds are beautiful. I can't imagine a more perfect location. We loved being able to relax outside by the pool but then also able to walk into the center of town in only a few minutes. The village is lovely with lots of restaurants and cafes and a wonderful weekly market. Gill was wonderful to deal with--lots of communication and information about what to do in the area. Highly recommend!

We have just visited Le Moulin for the first time, enjoying a group family holiday. It was a beautiful house, lovingly restored with spacious and versatile accommodation. We particularly liked its location, being only minutes away from the town whilst appreciating the very peaceful and rural outlook. The garden and pool was wonderful in the heat and we enjoyed all our meals outside. There is so much to do in the local area, visiting other villages and local markets and we particularly enjoyed our trip to the Gorge du Verdon and Lac St Croix. We would highly recommend this property and would hope very much to return.

We have just returned from our first visit to the Moulin and know we will most certainly return. The house is spacious, airy and well equipped. Plenty of room to gather together in a group or have a private space to relax. The pool is a focal point and ideal for children. Although the town is close by for shops, restaurants, bars and the weekly market, the house and its extensive grounds is a haven of peace and tranquility. Only 40 minutes to the coast and 1 hour to the Gorge du Verdon, with several beautiful villages within 15 minutes drive. We felt reassured that the property manager lives close by but we had no problems and enjoyed a perfectly relaxing and fun week.

For the 3rd time, we decided to visit Lorgues, and the fantastic property that Gill and Alan have converted. The house has lots of space and light, and everything you need to have a relaxing break. The garden is great for kids, and the pool is perfect. If you decide to venture into the town it is a very short walk and you have many restaurants, bars, shops and a great market to explore. there are plenty of things to do a short drive away: pretty mountain towns; vineyards; activities for the kids, or for a relaxing day out. We will come again I'm sure!

We visited Le Moulin for the second time in May 2015. We visited with friends-in all 4 adults and 4 children. It is such a lovely place to stay. The property itself has been renovated to a high standard. The kids spent most of the time in the pool, and we had barbecues most days. Lorgues town is a short walk-within 5 mins you can be at the boulangerie getting croissants, however it feels nice and secluded at the property. There is a lovely garden with cherry trees which the children enjoyed picking and eating. There is a lot to do nearby. You can visit local villages/vineyards/towns, and venture further afield to the coast if you wish. All in all an excellent holiday again and we will return!

Lorgues is a fascinating old French town well situated for a trip to Provence. It sits in wonderful countryside made up of woods, streams, hills and vineyards. In addition, the French coast from Marseille to Nice is close by, as well as many interesting inland places to visit. The property actually sits within the town, but backs onto relatively open land so it feels as if you are more remote than you are. This of course is excellent when you want to pop into town for the many things on offer there (good restaurants and local shops, great Tuesday market, strolling around) and just as good if you want to sit in the garden or swim in the pool and imagine you are in the middle of nowhere. The property has been well converted and the facilities are excellent. Of particular note is the large open plan kitchen area, the wonderful garden and pool and the general standard of maintenance and cleanliness within the property. Gill and Alan provided excellent customer service and recommendations and were always available if a problem came up. We would certainly recommend this property to small groups or large families. We were 8 people with 4 kids 5 and under and I would certainly categorise the property as child friendly, however would not discount this as a great getaway for a group of adults. We shall return in the future.

We - a small german family of three persons - spent a perfect week in Lorgues in Moulin Garden. The house is not only very well equipped as described in the internet, but also arranged with a very good taste. Our 8-year old son loved of course the heated swimming-pool and the table tennis table and was very sad after one week leaving the house. We also appreciated very much the garden with the red tomatoes and the beautiful roses. Moreover the house is perfectly located. Just 5 minutes to the center with the bakery and a small Casino, but very quite. No barking dogs, no loud traffic, nothing but the normal noises of a small village. We can recommend Gill's house without any limitation and will definitely come back.

The photo makes the old mill look lovely. In real life it was even nicer: great location on the edge of the lovely old town centre (croissants a couple of minutes away in the morning); and the inviting pool (warm too). The apartment was very comfortable and well equiped. Lorgues is an ideal centre. It's a very nice place itself and central for visiting the surrounding area. We visited with our two children, aged 7 and 10 and they loved it too. It's a great antidote to the busy, cramped Cote d'Azur.
