About this house rental
‘48 Swain Street’ is a character coastal property that has been carefully designed to offer comfortable, relaxing and informal style. A unique holiday home that’s a bit special. Perfect to share with family and friends. We want you to treasure your time here, in a holiday home environment that’s a treat, not just somewhere to get a good nights kip.
Located in the pretty harbour town of Watchet, situated between the Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park.
The accommodation
The house was originally a shop, ten years ago it benefited from a complete renovation and became a highly acclaimed boutique hotel/B&B which won numerous awards. We then bought 48 swain street as a holiday home somewhere to get away from it all to take time out with friends and family and relax.
The four roomy bedrooms all benefit from an ensuite slipper bath and walk in shower, an indulgent space to unwind, perfect after a day walking on Exmoor, the Quantock Hills or the beach. Within each room is a dressing area with wardrobe and dressing table, a television and hairdryer facilities. Each room is graced with a mural, pictures from the National or Portrait galleries. All the rooms have comfy beds, with white ‘high quality’ linen. Two of the rooms have king size beds the other two super king size which can be arranged as twins upon request when booking.
The ground floor has a well-equipped kitchen perfect for preparing a special dinner, baking cakes or simply a snack. There is a kitchen table at one end (I find this a perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of tea whilst planning the day ahead) and a range cooker at the other, very useful if you’re cooking for eight or more. Appliances include a washer/dryer, dishwasher and fridge freezer. There’s also a good selection of cook books if you need inspiration, and useful items for days out such as flasks and picnic hampers.
Across from the Kitchen is the sitting/dining room. A lovely sociable room, with the feature of the original shop window, the lower windows are frosted for privacy, but you can still discreetly watch the world go by out of the upper windows. The dining table comfortably seats eight, perfect for long evening meals with friends or family. At the opposite end of the room are two, four seater sofas and a couple of armchairs, a perfect spot to put your feet up and relax after a day exploring. There’s a good stock of books and board games, a smart TV with freeview and a playstation 4 with a selection of games to suit all.
It should be noted that there is no garden, this has never presented a problem to us as we're in the heart of Watchet, where you just walk outside the door to enjoy the towns atmosphere. We're quite fond of watching the sun go down at the harbour.
Children
We feel this holiday home is better suited to older children, teens and adults, we wouldn’t dream of turning away younger children, but the home has not been designed for them in mind, we just wouldn’t want them (or you) to be disappointed.
Dogs
We welcome up to two well behaved dogs. It should be noted that we do not have a garden, this works fine with our dog as we just take her up onto the cliffs first thing (literally a 2 minute walk away) and then she's out with us exploring during the day.
We would ask that dogs are not left alone in the house and that they remain downstairs. If you've a sofa dog, please bring dog blankets for the sofa.
This is a very dog friendly area (many shops welcome well behaved dogs inside), the coastal and moorland walks are a dogs dream.
There is an additional charge of £20 per dog, please mention when booking if you plan to being your dog.
