The Algarve, Ferragudo: Situated to the south of Portugal, on the southwest tip of Europe, the Algarve has one of the world's most beautiful, unspoilt stretches of coast land and has been described as a unique jewel with the finest sandy beaches and the perfect sunny climate with a world-renowned reputation. The Algarve is one of Europe's sunniest spots and beautiful weather can be enjoyed throughout the year. In the winter months, when the sun goes down, if the evening is cool, then a nice log fire in the villa makes for a cosy setting. For some clients all that is needed is a low key relaxing holiday, for others the prerequisite will be a private pool and a large safe sandy beach for the children to play on, Ferragudo has something for everyone of all ages.
Ferragudo Village with its elevated structure and whitewashed houses, still provides all that's good about tradition and yet manages to meet the demands of its visitors without disruption. We are pleased to welcome back guests time and again.
Getting to Ferragudo: We have guests who arrive at both Faro Airport, Seville and Lisbon. The villa is about 45 minutes drive from Faro and we can organise for you to be met at the airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Car hire is not essential but collection is easily organised at the airport or can be arranged locally in Ferragudo. Some clients are met at the airport and taken to the villa and then hire a car locally for a few days only, if they wish to get out and about. For clients coming into Lisbon and Seville, the drive is about three hours and motorway most of the way. If you decide to drive, we provide information before you travel on directions to the villa.
Train is an option from Faro to Portimao or Ferrugudo but be aware that whilst the trains are traditional and clean in true Portuguese relaxed and chilled style, they do take a little time to get you to your destination.
There isn't a month that isn't beautiful in this location. In the winter months the bright sunny days are beautiful for long walks or for just sitting around in the village square having coffee and light refreshments. In the early months of the year there are often local festivals and it's a joy to see the local residents and their families enjoying the activity. Visitors are always made to feel welcome.
Golf Courses:
The villa is close to Alamos Golf; Alto, Gramacho Golf; Palmares, Penina, Pinta, Vale De Milho and Vale de Lobo golf resorts. We have clients who return to our villa year after year to play, some of them having other family members who prefer to go to the beach whilst the gofers go off blissfully knowing that they have as long as they need to play a round or two of golf. Some of the go.fing enthusiasts take their partners along with them to the golf resort and surprise their partners with lovely pampering sessions in the resort spa or beauty salon.
Activities for the family: The villa overlooks the beach and is within easy access of water sport facilities, a marina, zoos, marine parks, aqua playgrounds, diving, fishing, sailing, golf and horse riding. The beach is long and wide, the sea on the local beach is usually calm and safe for children to swim unlike some of the smaller beaches which surround the coastline. There are four excellent, family orientated beach cafes/bars offering good refreshments and sun umbrellas and lounge chairs if that is what is wanted. Beach volleyball and kite flying can also be seen frequently at the end of the day when the sun is going down. If one is really lucky, you will see a past Portuguese kite windsurfing champions in action on the Praire Grande beach, (the local beach).
From Ferragudo quayside, a small boat will take you for a few euros across to the Portimao marina where you can enjoy more restaurants, a luxurious beach facility or just a stroll along another beach boardwalk. Great for adults and children.

Stayed as a family during August and had an enjoyable, relaxed and comfortable holiday. Excellent communication with the owner, Janis, and Lurdes, who handed over keys and looked after the Villa, before and during our stay. Villa was in an excellent location, very clean and comfortable and had all of the amenities and equipment we needed. Would definitely stay again if in Ferragudo.

My family and I had a great stay at this villa. It was well located, had all the equipment and amenities we needed and was very clean. Communication with the owner (Janis) was very good and Lurdes who greeted us and looked after the Villa during our stay was also very nice and helpful. Overall, it was a lovely, relaxing break, and we would stay there again if in the area.

Janis was amazing with communication, responding promptly to emails. First and foremost, you have a parking spot which is necessary in the summer because parking is nearly impossible. Lurdes was there to check us in and show us around the vila. She was so sweet. The view was breath taking and the vila was a five minute walk to the beach. The center of town was a short walk which was doable with a family with five kids (ranging from 3.5-10). Continente grocery store was a ten minute drive, they have self service laundry available there. There isn’t anything else that could have made our stay in Ferragudo more perfect! Thank you to our hosts!

Fantastic place for a large group. We had 3 generations of family members and had a great time in the local village. The Villa was perfect for breakfast for our large group and swims after returning from the beach.

The villa was superb. It had everything and more. It was built on three levels. You enter on the upper level into a large and well furnished lounge with a beautiful view. The well equipped kitchen is off to the side. The middle level has two bedrooms and a small lounge with access to the lovely swimming pool with sun loungers and bbq. The lower level has two more bedrooms. The villa is situated above the village which is just a short walk away. At the end of the holiday the whole family wished they could stay for longer. It is a fabulous villa and I would recommend it to everyone.

We stayed as a family of 8. The villa is large spanning over 3 floors with more than enough room for us all with a large table in the kitchen for family breakfasts and large well appointed bathrooms. The pool was a highlight for us all every day. The booking process could not have been easier and the owners were very responsive with our enquiries prior to our visit. It is situated a few minutes walk to the main beach and a 10 minute walk to the village. I would not hesitate to return.

We had a lovely few days at Janis and Philip’s villa. The location was great and we walked everywhere so didn’t hire a car. Communication was excellent with Janis and she answered all my questions in a timely manner. The villa was lovely and clean with a pool and was within easy walking distance to the beautiful beach. All in all a lovely holiday. Thank you.

We all had a fabulous stay. The pool was great, location was amazing and there were even buckets and spades in the property for the kids to take to the beach. Janis was super responsive when communicating and we would highly recommend anyone to stay here!

This place is amazing and the pictures don’t give anywhere near justice it deserves as it’s much bigger than it looks over three levels.
Whether looking for the sun or shade by the pool, getting some shade at outdoor breakfast or watching the sun go down we had every option to enjoy.
The beach and restaurants at Praia Grande and Ferraguedo are so easy to walk to that a car isn’t necessary. There are convenience stores in Ferraguedo that have access to Butchers, Bakery and general food whilst a short journey by car or taxi isn’t an issue to the nearest super market which has huge amount of options.
If you have booked it then I am jealous but if not book now!

Our family spent a week at Janis’s home in Ferragudo in June 2022. The pictures in the listing do not fully capture how beautiful this well-maintained and stylish villa is. We found the home to be supremely comfortable for our family of five. Our kids loved spending our mornings at the beach, which is only a few minutes walk (and the home comes with some beach toys and umbrellas), and spending our afternoons swimming in the pool. The village is a short, quaint walk in the other direction. We ate dinner primarily in the village at restaurants Janis recommended in the comprehensive information packet about the home that she sent us in advance of our stay. Janis was unfailingly prompt in responding to my many questions, as was Lurdes, the housekeeper, who is nearby and reachable in the event of issues. They made our family feel very much like we were guests in their home. One of my children loved staying here so much that he cried when we packed the car to leave. This home in Ferragudo was a wonderful place to enjoy the Algarve. Thank you, Janis and Lurdes, for a wonderful vacation.

Had a wonderful time, beach nearby, wonderful little square with great food and drink!

Janis from the word go was incredibly informative and helpful setting up pick ups from the airport, offering advice on great local restaurants from the get go. Lurdes her cleaner was lovely and did a bang up job cleaning after us (although there were two big cleaners among us too!) The location, space and host were incredible. So generous and warm, we would LOVE to visit and stay here again! Thank you Janis and Lurdes!!!

Unfortunately, we had to reschedule our visit so have not yet seen the property but Janise and Philip have been absolutely terrific making sure we were updated on everything that was going on and making it possible to reschedule our trip. This review is in support of them! We look forward to visiting this beautiful villa with the most gracious hosts!

We had such a fantastic time at the villa! The week we spent there was the highlight of our month long trip. I so appreciated all of Janis' suggestions, notes and all the info about Ferragudo. It was really helpful. Janis was amazingly thorough and emailed me many times to ensure all of my queries were answered. It was almost as if I were her personal guest. :-) (even though she doesn't know me at all!)
The villa was set up so nicely...we had everything that was needed....and the pool.... Wow....the pool was truly a huge plus. The kids absolutely loved it and my son, Pierce, actually learned to swim without flotation devices during our time there. The villa was clean, tidy and everything was orderly and easy to find.
Ferragudo is such a charming village and we really enjoyed strolling down the narrow, windy, cobblestone pathways. Our kids loved exploring the village. The gorgeous beach was about a 5 minute walk and lots of fun for everyone. The playground was a huge plus.
Not too far from the villa was one of our favorite restaurants, The Piano Garden, with the delightful garden views and delicious curries. The service was outstanding.
As for activities, our young kids loved ZooMarine , in particular the dolphin show, where the emphasis was on human/dolphin interaction. We also drove to Silves...an incredible historical town. And we did a day trip to Evora to see the Cromeleque does Almendres, 100 + Standing Stones just outside the city. Wow! At 7000 years old, this magical place inspires the imagination.
We hope to go back! I would recommend this villa to anyone. :-)

We were a group of three middle aged couples from Ontario, Canada. We stayed at the Villa from September 19 - October 4,2009.
The listing description of this Villa is 100% accurate regarding the location, layout, and facilities! The property is exceptionally clean and kept polished by Lourdes the maid who comes in every two days. She always had a smile for us and answered any questions we had. The owner of this Villa provided customer service above and beyond. She answered any questions immediately and provided excellent directions and suggestions for restaurants and activities for the surrounding area.
Ferragudo is a small, sleepy fishing village that gave us a real taste of Portugal life. It is hilly and has very narrow streets which make it very charming. If you wanted the shopping and active party area it was in Praia da Rocha which was only 10-15 minutes drive across the inlet. We enjoyed both! This Villa is in the center of the Algarve. It is easy to drive east or west or north to visit the surrounding cities and villages for a day. A vehicle is necessary if you want to leave town to tour. We had perfect weather and the area was not busy with the summer vacationers absent.
We would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to experience a "True taste of Portugal"!

This is a wonderful villa in a glorious location. It is beautifully looked after by the housekeeper and the standard of cleanliness and comfort are second to none. There is not one aspect of it that could have been bettered! The photographs do not do it justice as they fail to capture the spaciousness and wonderful light that fills the property. The views from the balcony are great and most evenings were spent watching the lights on the boats coming and going. The pool was a huge hit with all of us particularly as we were very fortunate to have exceptionally good weather. There was ample shade when it got that little bit too hot and the pool room was great for the children to read and play games at the hottest times of the day.
Ferragudo itself is delightful and we were really pleased that we did not hire a car as there was loads to do without the need to travel. The local beach is lovely and there is an inflatable area out in the sea which was a huge hit with our daughters (the sea was too cold at that depth for our youngest). The beach bars were good to watch the sun go down (live jazz at Nau on Sunday evening). The town square is quite a busy place in the evening which is great for children - there was a fire eater there one evening which kept all the children enthralled. The Three Monkeys bar also has live music on a Wednesday evening but it does start quite late if you have young children. We ate at quite a few of the restaurants recommended by the owner and found them all to be very good although our favourite was Novo Velho (the fish was superb but the locals all seemed to be tucking in to the enormous kebabs!).
There are plenty of minimarkets and an excellent butcher in town as well as the brilliant little bakery. You could easily manage without having to visit a supermarket. The figs were fantastic and ridiculously cheap as were the oranges so freshly squeezed juice was always being poured!
We really didn't want to leave it was so perfect.
Also, the owners were incredibly helpful and informative from the initial enquiry onwards. They replied promptly to any queries and everything was handled professionally. A really wonderful holiday.

My family comprises myself, my husband and two boys aged five and two. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ferragudo and it was everything we wanted from a holiday. If you want a fun day packed with exciting activities there is plenty to do, however there is also the opportunity to have a lovely relaxing and tranquil time. The villa and it’s surroundings are lovely and one of my favourite things was to have breakfast on the terrace over looking the castle and the beach, watching boats come and go.
My two young boys loved the beaches and everything that was on offer. The beach is safe and so large that it never got packed. The villa was equipped with everything that we needed and this took all the stress out of taking two young children away and of course they loved the swimming pool. The villa looks beautiful in the photographs and is even more beautiful when you see it. The thing that surprised us was the size of the Villa. It made going away with our friends, another couple, very easy as we had the space to share times together i.e. eating and relaxing as well as chilling on one of the terraces if a quiet moment was needed.
The advice and notes given to us about where to eat and spend our time were most appreciated and allowed us to settle in very quickly and make informed choices and get straight into our holiday without wasting any time trying to track down the local amenities. We hope to book next years holiday there again.

Just a perfect villa if you want or need space and at
same time search for tasteful luxury.
The description of the place and area was the most
accurate we have ever recieved. The vila and pool was
very professionelly maintained. We already recommend
this property to many friends and other travellers.
We liked the Ferragudo, old town square a lot and
also the genuine athmosfare in the village.
We like the genuine beaches around Ferragudo a lot,
but not beaches and modern style on other side at
Praia da Rocha, but the food at Restaurants there
where excellent as the service with boat-taxi also.
The shark fishing from Portimao was very nice and
successful. Carvoeiro is a must to visit and close to
go there, also Slide & Splash is worth a day and easy
access by transfer bus arranged by Castelo Reception.

Our family group of 7 adults ranging from ages 40 through to 79 have just returned from a stay at this villa. We were all impressed by the location and fantastic views across the river towards Portimao. The property was clean and offered a good layout. The resort is quite hilly but the older group members managed ok. The villa is located overlooking the fishermans beach and you can walk around the castle to get to the Praia Grande beach, this is a lovely walk. Beach is ideal for young children as the waters are shallow and only have very gentle waves unlike much of the Algarve. We did not have a car and were able to walk to a different restaurant on each night, and the food was excellent and good value for money. Would recommend this villa to anyone. Our only criticism is that the sunbeds were basic and not very comfortable, limited shade around the pool and the beds are very hard.
We can highly recommend Barnards Restaurant, the pizza restaurant in the village centre and a must is the Titanic restaurant in Playa da Rocha, one of the top restaurants in the Algarve and it won't break the bank to have a delicious meal there. We would definitely return to this villa in the future.
