About this house rental
The Palacio de Hualle is a 17th Century manor house and estate, near Comillas and the green northern coast of Cantabria.
The beautiful, large 17thC "Palacio" or villa-manor house is very elegant, and has been fully renovated to provide an unforgettable summer holiday rental. The estate includes a vast park and gardens and a lovely little chapel. The big, beautifully decorated living room with fireplace and the dining room for twelve will provide the perfect setting for a gathering of family or friends. There are six or seven bedrooms. That is: five spacious double bedrooms, plus a tower room-bedroom and an open studio- bedroom.
The spacious, light filled kitchen has just been renovated. Adjacent to the kitchen, there is a smaller dining room with a chimney. There are several terraces, balconies and patios to enjoy the lovely views of green hills and fields with horses grazing nearby. A stream flows at the edge of the property where locals sometimes fish trout.
Shops and restaurants with excellent seafood, local vegetables, meats are within walking distance from our village. Beautiful beaches are a 15 minute drive away as are the picturesque villages of Comillas, Cabezón de la Sal, San Vicente and Santillana del Mar. One can hike on an ancient Roman Road in nearby hills, climb in Picos mountains, canoe in Sella River.
The Palacio de Hualle has been featured in various country house and decorator magazines.
Located in the tiny village of Hualle, a hamlet of about 25 traditional village houses. It is extremely peaceful. Nonetheless, well stocked shops are within walking distance and big supermarkets are a three minute drive away.

This is truly a palacio of palacios. From the original wood/staircases, beautiful furniture and artwork, the lush green grass and flowers, it was amazing. It had everything we needed and more. We can’t wait to return and thank you for this unique and amazing opportunity.

Our family had a wonderful experience in this historic Spanish home. Accommodations were very comfortable with excellent kitchen and bath facilities. The location can’t be beat - close to beaches, national parks and culture. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay in Cantabria at Palacio Hualle.
We enjoyed the Palacio very much with its quirky layout and enjoyed reading the book about the architect Henri Jova who restored it.
Mari, the housekeeper is the true star of the show making us a delicious traditional Spanish paella which was superb! Also this was for 12 people! (La paella estaba deliciosa!)
Treceño is a lovely peaceful area and the Palacio has spacious grounds with a little chapel in the grounds and donkeys in the ajacent field.
The Palacio is very traditional and mixed the old with the modern well with antique furniture and with a modern well equipped kitchen with range cooker and an American style fridge/freezer.
There is a small town centre in Treceño where you can get reasonably priced food, coffee and beers/wines etc. The Mercadona supermarket is a couple of kilometers away and only a few minutes drive (given the area, a car is probably a necessity for most people unless doing the trip as part of a cycling holiday)
We would definately stay again!

Beautiful house and surroundings. Very clean and comfortable. We really felt at home in this house. It had everything we needed and great space for a big family. Even thought it rained we still were able to do the bbq in the very large terrace. The house was lovely and warm with a fantastic big open fire. Really perfect.

We loved staying in the Gatehouse. It is beautiful with a very pretty outside sitting area. Beds were comfortable, lovely bedding, lots of towels. Mari lives across the road and was extremely helpful. We have two children who loved the little play park in the village and feeding the odd carrot or apple to the horse and donkey. They also had fun playing with other children in the village who were extremely welcoming and friendly. It was only 15mins to the beach and there were lots of interesting caves and villages to visit.
The gatehouse is attached to the main larger house but has a separate seating area so feels very private. The big garden area is round by the bigger house but there is plenty of space outside the gatehouse.
The house had a lovely relaxing feel. A special place to visit.

A wonderful house, spacious, comfortable, full of character. Lovely garden, horse and donkey in the field, shops, restaurants and bars a short walk away. Mountain walks, beaches, historic towns and villages. And Mari's paella!

The place is absolutely great and we have spent 2 nice weeks there:
- very spacious inside - you might even be lost here :) Authentic, but comfortable to live;
- big garden and cute horses coming for carrots and grass;
- lovely terraces;
- Mari, who comes to tidy the palace 5 days per week, is very nice and kind person (she speaks only Spanish, but despite the fact that we speak no Spanish at all, we managed to agree on everything). Mari cooks delicious food!;
- communication with the owner is prompt and clear. She also took care about everything we needed for our small daughter (2 years old).
The village itself is very small, but there are lots of nice villages around to spent your days. Big supermarket is 5 minutes drive. Smaller one is just 5 minutes walking distance. Ocean (with absolutely amazing beaches) is 15 minutes drive.
All in all, our family recommends this place to stay.
One more thank you to Mari and Margaret for a very good experience!

We needed a house for 10 with space for everyone to do their own thing and get together for meals or drinks or games... In a beautiful tranquil location... the Palacio fitted the bill perfectly.
We liked the fact that the house is somewhat quirky, and not overly modernised. It has lots of character. However with so many stairs and slightly sloping floors it would not suit a disabled person or someone with restricted mobility.
Kitchen - very well equipped with huge American style fridge & freezer.
Bedrooms all a reasonable size, even the one in the tower.
Only slight drawback - beds or rather mattresses need updating.
The attic is fine too for a single person or two friends (sofa beds only!)
The patio is lovely, great to be able eat outside together and admire the view (and watch the bats flitting to and fro in the evening).
Mari, our housekeeper was wonderful, kept the place clean and tidy, and cooked a delicious meal for 10 on one evening, creating both a great meat-based dish and a veggie alternative too. All for an incredibly reasonable price. We should have booked her for two nights!
The area is lush, green, and beautiful. Lots of interesting places to explore. Recommend Comilllas, El Castillo caves and Altamira caves.
Would definitely recommend this house and this area for a big group.

In Spain a "palace" has to have a tower and this does, as well as 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, a nice kitchen, a huge dining room, breakfast nook and living area. If you have a need for a wedding, reunion or just a lot of friends this is the place. Near beaches and the town of San Vicente de la Banquera. Marie, does a really nice job making you feel at home. Any issues that might arise, (remember the place is a stone palace dating back hundreds of years) are taken in stride and fixed by the owner.
The area of Cantabria is beautiful with terrific food almost everywhere. Both Santander and Bilbao are close enough with a car. Picos de Europa are within a hour's drive and the towns of Comillas and Santillana de Mar are within 30 minutes including the caves of Altamira. A posada serving exotic wild mushrooms and two places seving excellent coffee are within 5 minutes walk.
We are grateful we had the experience of being a guest here. Not to be missed.

This delightful old house was beautiful inside and outside, very spacious and perfect for two families to spend some time together. The authentic interior gave you the feeling to be hundreds of years back. It was still convenient with several baths and a well equipped , large kitchen. Our youngsters very much liked the donkey, the dog and the cat. There were many activities possible quite nearby, surfing and hiking was very good, we much enjoyed the "ruta del cares". But the house was quite the highlight of our holidays!

An absolutely fantastic place! A real treasure--charming in every way. We loved it and wished we cold have stayed longer. Little walks in the village; horses and donkey waiting to greet us at the fence, interesting object's d'art throughout; great place to make day trips from; close to stores (loved the Sat. market in nearby town), friendly neighbors -- just great in every way.
