If you are considering staying at the Iao Valley Inn, look no further as you have found an amazing place to stay during your visit to Maui. Located in the lush Iao valley, the property is the perfect place to retreat to after a long hot day at the beach. Sit out on the lanai and enjoy a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries, while taking in views of the natural Iao mountains and nearby waterfall. Each evening offers a heavenly sleep on the most comfortable bed in the luxuriously quiet Palms room. The Iao Valley Inn is clean, private, and thoughtful. Tamara and Bob are sure to make your stay at the Iao Valley Inn an effortlessly pleasant experience.

It was good fortune to find and book The Cottage with Gazebo, for a group of four of us - all Hawaii 'virgins' -- what a great place in which to find ourselves our very first time in Maui! Booking with Tamara was easy and convenient, directions were easy to follow, location was ideal (we were attending my son's wedding on the west coast in Kapalua Bay), and more than what we even expected -- a tropical private commune in which to relax, cook, sun, hike, sleep for five glorious days. The surroundings are glorious, like being in Jurassic Park (without the 'raptors'!). The wonderful white noise of nearby waterfall was our background soundtrack to our peaceful stay. Truly difficult to leave when the time came! Last but not least,..for the price, it is an amazing value! Russell, Daniel, Sarah, and Amy WILL be back!

My wife and I spent a week in the Palms room, and very much enjoyed our time there. Iao Valley Inn is in a beautiful location, with gorgeous mountain views and an amazing garden setting. Bob and Tamara are great hosts and offer a great alternative to some of the more crowded places that most tourists choose. It's not close to the beaches, but the drive is not so far as to be an issue. The central location in Maui makes it very convenient for most of what you would want to do. We highly recommend Iao Valley Inn and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

I can not recommend enough this wonderful bed and breakfast. Bob and Tamara were great and my wife and I had the most relaxing time while staying there. We stayed in the Palms room and would do so again. The room is wonderfully decorated and comfortable and the bathroom is very nice as well. Great shower! The property here is so unique and beautiful! The breakfasts, which were all prepared and waiting for us were amazing. Hope to come again sometime.

We spent three nights in the Palms Room at Iao Valley Inn and were glad we chose this secluded, tropical, scenic property. Tamara, Bob, and their family are charmingly gracious and welcoming. Our priorities when selecting a place to stay are cleanliness, quiet, and privacy, and the Inn checked all of those boxes. After a full day of exploring Maui, we could relax on our private veranda and fall asleep on a comfortable bed to the soothing sound of rain and/or waterfall. We chose the Palms room because we prefer a shower (bathroom looks newly renovated) and the extra windows, which, with the ceiling fan, provided plenty of cooling breezes in the evening.
Breakfast, provided by Tamara, was filling and delicious, and gave us a good start to our full days. The Inn is centrally located on the island, enabling us to quickly access areas of interest. It is also convenient to grocery and the airport, which is approximately 5 miles and 15 minutes away.
Lush, wild Iao Valley Park is approximately 2 miles away and was our first stop subsequent to check-in. We also drove the Highway to Hana and explored several beaches and towns of Maui including Kapalua, Kahana, and Lahaina and were glad to have the beach towels the owners provided us. For lunch one day, we ate at The Gazebo in Napili and had a delightful, delicious meal overlooking the ocean and the island of Molokai. However, we didn’t have to go far from Iao Valley Inn to enjoy appetizing dining. The owners provide information on many of the local eateries. Saeng Thai’s indoor garden setting and outdoor patio are lovely and the food is very good for the price.
We only wish we could have stayed a little longer and gotten to know the owners (and Mango) better. If we return to Maui, we hope this lovely property will still be available for our stay.

We've been here twice, have rented both of the rooms, and we've thoroughly enjoyed this Inn and the owners! If travelers are staying in one spot and need access to the entire island, this area is central; Iao Valley has much to offer, and working with locally-owned and operated businesses is preferable as well. We're pretty particular about our surroundings and we can highly recommend this lovely B&B getaway.
If we had to pick one room over the other, it would be tricky to do, as both are special in their own right; the Palms seems to have a better bed but the step into the shower is high, while the tub in the Orchid is more relaxing. Each room has a charming lanai that offers privacy and a view and both are bright and welcoming; a person with physical limitations will also be comfortable on this property (away from the main house there are slightly steep walking areas). This is a picturesque location and usually quiet, but the waterfall and swimming hole on this land have been discovered by a few neighborhood kids - and no wonder, because it's all part of the overall enjoyment here, which includes the lovingly tended gardens. This is someone's home and it shows in all of the details, which include the company of the owners, who are both very friendly while respecting your privacy; such qualities are helpful additions to your experience on this diverse island. The breakfast fruits are all fresh and tasty and there's even home-grown coffee to go with the yummy pastries.
It's easy to get around from here, so if a variety of excursions are planned, it won't take more than an hour to get to many places and less than that to most; Wailuku here is the county seat, Kahului is the big town next door, and the shores are close either to the North (Paia) or the South (Maalea). There a number of good cafes and restaurants nearby, and the drive to even more popular eateries is usually only about a half-an-hour or so, with Mana Foods just up the road for groceries; farmers markets are throughout the week in various easy distances as well. The Upcountry, National Park, and Road to Hana are all quickly accessed from this part of the island, as are all of the West and South Shore beaches, so one can comfortably find plenty of the best attractions without having to endure crowds and busy streets the entire time on a vacation. This little slice of paradise is a retreat back to serenity after an adventurous day and should be included in your plans!

We had a lovely stay at the Iao Valley Inn last month. Tamara and the sweet dog Mango gave us a warm greeting, and a tray with tea and delicious brownies awaited us in our room. The breakfasts were delicious, and the grounds beautiful. Our room was very comfortable, and possibly even nicer than the photos. We loved listening to the stream and falls, and had a nice swim in the pool below the falls. The inn has a unique Central Valley location, away from the big hotels and resorts, but easy trip to beaches, upcountry Maui, north shore...anywhere really. Tamara and Bob were wonderful hosts, and we look forward to our next visit.

We stayed at the Iao Valley Inn for 5 nights. What a wonderful place! The hosts Tamara and Bob were gracious and helpful. The Inn is located off the beaten path in Wailuku in a tropical valley setting that is very secluded and private. The grounds are beautiful and there is a beautiful waterfall on the stream on the property. Accommodation in the Orchid Room was very clean and comfortable. We had a king size bed, flat screen Tv, microwave and small frig. WIFI was available. Very spacious bathroom with claw footed tub. we were very comfortable during our stay.
Our host, Tamara, was so helpful and made us feel very welcome. Her morning breakfast were delicious with fresh fruit, and a different offering of muffins or rolls each day. There was a Keurig coffee maker so we could prepare our own fresh coffee when we wanted.
We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Inn, and the lovely grounds. We would certainly recommend this Inn to anyone seeking a getaway from the typical touristy hotels or condos. This place is a gem and we will certainly come back if we are on Maui again.

The Iao Valley Inn exceeded any expectations we had when choosing (for us) non-traditional Maui lodging. We usually stay at a big resort, but we decided to break up this trip with something more authentic for our second half. Tamara and her dog Mango warmly greeted us when we arrived, and led us to our delightful Palms Room at the back of the home. The room was large and beautifully decorated, and stocked with a mini fridge to store local brews, a microwave, flat screen, fluffy beach towels, and ample closet space. The bathroom was luxe and super-clean and the shower was heavenly. An added bonus was the availability of the laundry room. We loved to sleep with the windows open and listen to the Iao Stream which runs through the property. Our covered lanai was private, and we ate breakfast outside every morning. Ahh, the breakfasts. These weren't your typical Continental breakfasts. Think papaya, lilikoi, eggs, and still-warm homemade bread. Tamara and Bob recommended an unpublicized Needle hike, which we loved, and I was very touched when Tamara graciously offered to call Mama's Fish House and "suggest" a special seating arrangement for us. The Iao Valley Inn is indeed a secluded paradise, Tamara and Bob are excellent hosts, and we can't wait to return.

We stay at this amazing oasis. Tamara and Bob were wonderful host because they make us feel very special while we stay at the Inn. Every morning, a lovely breakfast was prepared. Most of the fruits was grown on the premises.Tamara and Bob were very informative about the island. There was a beautiful garden and small waterfall on the property. The View from the sitting area just outside our room is very scenic. It is a perfect way to unwind down after a long day site seeing around the island. It a paradise hidden in the middle of the City. We highly recommend this hidden gem.

My girlfriend and I recently celebrated our one year anniversary at the Iao Valley Inn. We could not have been happier with our trip, and staying in the Palms Room turned out to be one of the best decisions we made.
You get an exceptionally clean and spacious room, plus an outdoor porch, plus wifi, plus breakfast (fruit, pastries, cereal, yogurt, milk, coffee) prepared each day. Not to mention a super warm and friendly host who is guaranteed to make your stay enjoyable, all at a price that is a third of what some resorts on the island charge. It's an incredible deal, really.
Our "home base" was located just a short drive away from the best beaches, best food, and best attractions in Maui. We will definitely stay again if we're lucky enough to go back to visit. Thanks Tamara!!

The property is everything the photos portray and more. We found Tamara and Bob to be incredibly welcoming. Our room (Palms) was impeccably clean and well maintained. Breakfast each morning was fresh and delightful. You couldn't ask for a more perfect verdant valley to relax into and absorb the Aloha spirit, at such a reasonable price! Do yourself a favor and book today.

Stayed here for just over a week. My wife and I opted for this over a hotel on the beach. My wife was a little skeptical at first about not being on the beach but she walked away loving is place and so did I. We had a car and after a full day of flying it was nice to have only a 5-10 minute drive to get to our b&b. The moment we arrived we felt like family. After meeting Tamara we knew it was a great choice. She is kind, considerate, and caring. We met Bob as well and he was equally as nice and considerate. The two of them have a great thing going and they know how to put a personal touch on something as simple as staying at their place. I recommended this to good friends traveling to Maui, and anyone who reads this post. This is more than a place to stay on your holiday, it is an opportunity to meet a great family who has made Maui their home. It is a great location in regards to exploring different areas on the island. It is closer than the west side or south if you are road tripping to Haleakala or Hana. It is within 30 mins to west Maui or South. Just a great central location if you are up for going beyond a one mile stretch of beach at a resort. I cannot recommend this place enough!

My husband and I honeymooned on Maui in 2004 and stayed at the Hyatt on the Ka'anapali. Returning to Maui for our 10th anniversary, we knew we wanted a different experience. Finding the IaoValleyInn was finding paradise perfection! A stunning setting, tranquility, convenient access to any place on the island, and incredible hospitality marked our week long stay at the Inn. On this trip we discovered new territory away from the typical high tourist areas: the Upcountry in general, Makawao (great shopping and the Sherri Reeve art gallery), Ulapalakua, Kula, the O'o Farm (providing food for Pacifico's in Lahaina), Paia and Haiku. We had unbelievable meals at Pacifico's, Hali'imaile General Store, Merriman's (Kapalua) and the iconic Mama's Fish House (Paia). But the highlight of our stay was the Inn itself and our hosts, Tamara and Bob. The 30+ acre property is gorgeous with lush greenery and a spectacular waterfall. It is private, relaxing and inspiring. We loved talking with Tamara and Bob about the hide gems of the island, art, and culture over coffee on the lanai (which they grow and roast themselves!). Our time at the IaoValleyInn was the centerpiece of an unforgettable Maui experience that deepened our connection to the island and gifted us with two new friends that we hope to visit again. Mahalo!

We were blown away by this gem in Iao Valley. It is so peaceful and serene. It's tropical and exotic. You can roam the property while listening to the birds and rushing waters from the stream. You will feel like you are in Hawaii as you look out your room and see banana trees and other wild fruit trees which you will get to eat from for breakfast. You will also feel like you are family in Bob and Tamara's care. They welcome you with a genuine spirit. You will feel so thankful you found this place. We were and will definitely come back if we should get the chance again. I really could go on and on, bottom line you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!

Wow. As first time Maui visitors, I'm glad we chose this Inn for our stay. Tamara and Bob have found a little bit of heaven on earth and are gracious enough to share it. They exceeded all our expectations, and answered our questions, and we took them up on many of their suggestions from touring the island and sight-seeing, to shopping and dining. The central location was a nice bonus for us as we went a different direction each day. Our room was wonderful, and each morning's breakfast was delicious. When we get back to Maui, we hope to return!!

This was actually our first time ever to a B&B and I doubt we will ever find a more perfect one. The room and grounds are immaculate. We stayed in the Orchid room for 6 nights and we enjoyed the very comfortable king bed and the elegant clawfoot tub. Looking out the door or sitting out in our private covered lanai was breathtakingly beautiful with lush greenery like a garden of Eden. Lots of rain the week we came, so the "raging" creek was fun to watch as it changed day to day. Tamara was a wonderful host. Every day, promptly at 7am, there was a fresh fruit plate and assorted muffins or homemade cookies waiting for us, along with home-grown coffee. What a treat! Thanks for everything!

My husband and I had a quick 3 night stay here before heading over to Lahaina for the rest of our trip. I wish we had been able to stay longer, but the room was booked for the other days. The inn and grounds are really beautiful. I didn't realize the stream/waterfall would provide such a view, in addition to the distant ocean, mountains, all the great plants, and even a rainbow one day. It is so serene and perfect for those who want to get away from the crowds. We are the kind of travelers who plan to see as much as possible, and we loved that the location of the inn was close to the airport and was easier for us to make the sunrise at the crater, the long trip to hana, iao valley, and the helicopter tour we did on that side of the island.
Our room was great, clean and inviting, plenty of space, comfortable with the windows open and fan on. The microwave and mini fridge were nice to have. I really have no complaints. The inn was absolutely perfect, especially compared with our stay at Lahaina Shores.
Bob and Tamara are the sweetest people, you will love them. They were even nice enough to hang on to the breakfast we missed by heading out so early, so we still got to enjoy the fresh fruit later. And they had a great recommendation for a pizza place that would deliver on a rainy night we decided to stay in.

A very special B & B with a wonderful continental breakfast. The room was beautifully decorated with hand picked art and unique furnishings. We loved the outdoor space with table and bed, a very relaxing place to hang out and enjoy the clouds drifting over the mountains. We were graced with a full rainbow on our last morning there.
It is a good location for accessing places.
Our hosts were the best they were there to answer our questions and very willing to share their special place.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay, for four nights. The quiet location just out of town was perfect for adventures anywhere on Maui. The hosts have lived on Maui for many years and were a wealth of information on what to see and do. For example they mentioned a very interesting Hawaian Fabrics art exhibit at the Muai Civic Center that we would have never known about, we went and were impressed by the art works and very friendly staff ready to answer our questions.

This was a wonderful place to vacation in a completely serene setting. The rooms are completely isolated from the road and parking, so the lanai looks out over the valley and lovely landscaped yard. We loved waking to the birdsong in the morning and the lovely breakfast with tropical fruit from the gardens provided by Tamara. This was a nice central location for exploring other places on Maui. We will go back!

The owners have done a wonderful job making the 2 rooms for rent as perfect as possible. You will lack nothing as you wake each morning to fresh fruit, home grown coffee, and a variety of baked goods and juice. An on-site washer/dryer is at your disposal if you need it. There are body boards if you want to hit the beach, beach chairs, coolers, etc. to make any trip to the beach complete. The owners are very hospitable, but not intrusive. To describe the rooms in one word...... Immaculate.

We had a very nice time at the Iao Valley B&B. Fresh clean new accommodations, quiet surroundings with a lovely view of surrounding mountains and town.. Very friendly and helpful host and hostess. Delicious breakfast including plenty of fresh fruit every morning.

We've stayed at many VRBO places, and this one is bar far the best. Everything was clean, beautiful taste, fresh, and an amazing setting. Many places are worn out, and used rough. This one is maintained impeccably. Extremely private, lush and so Hawaiian. It's everything you want to have in Maui.
Bob & Tamara are very friendly and helpful yet leave you in peace as well to enjoy the environment by yourself. Just the right balance of being there for you, and leaving you alone to experience Hawaii yourself.
The breakfasts were awesome, and fresh. Their home grown coffee was a very nice touch. I especially loved the puakenikeni tree outside our bedroom window; the most fragrant flowers you can imagine, and I picked one every day for my hair.
We had one big downpour while we were there, and watching the stream turn into a roaring river was really cool. We got to listen to it's roar for a couple of days, and loved that sound as we slept.
Highly recommend this sweet hideaway on this side of the island!

This a great spot relatively new to the lodging scene and we loved every moment of our stay here. Tamara and Bob are phenomenal hosts with delicious breakfasts waiting for you every morning and helpful hints for what you are looking to do on Maui. It is a welcomed change from beach resorts as it is nestled in the valley seemingly away from everything. You will want to have a car if you are staying here but you are an easy drive to any beaches or hikes.
Will absolutely stay here again even if it is just to visit with Bob and Tamara.

Wow! I'm still excited just thinking about how wonderful was our stay at the Iao Valley Inn last October! My husband and I were celebrating our silver anniversary and my birthday in Hawaii so we looked for a place that would be both beautiful and unique. The Iao Valley Inn was that and more!! Our hosts, Tamara and Bob Horcajo, were friendly and accommodating. If you want recommendations as to what to do and where to go, Tamara is your best resource. She was head of the Parks Dept and knows the area through and through. Ask her anything if you have any questions about how to get the most from your stay on Maui. Before you go out, please don't skip the delicious breakfast! Every day there was fresh mango or banana bread, dragonfruit, papaya, excellent coffee (get a bag before you leave), juices, etc. served on the lanai as the sun comes up. You can see the ocean, too! Also, try cracking open the fresh macadamia nuts that Tamara only has to scoop from her driveway. They're $13/pound here in Denver! Even the resident goats greet you with a conversation--it's pretty crazy talking to a goat, but they seem to understand what you're saying. The Inn is about 5 minutes from the airport and close to shopping, but you can't tell because it's so peaceful and you're surrounded by nut trees, plumeria, and thick vegetation--you're in a jungle! We can highly recommend this lovely spot if you're looking for an alternative to the hectic hotel track and prefer affordability, peace, and quiet. If we should be lucky enough to go back to Maui, this is the place you'll find us! (Jan 2, 2014)
