Town: The picturesque Welsh Marches scenery surrounds the mediaeval market town of Ludlow, which is located on the River Teme. The town has a wonderful variety of architecture, including Ludlow Castle, which is almost 900 years old and one of the first stone castles to be erected in England. The castle is now open throughout the year and offers a variety of activities, such as outdoor theatre, culinary, art, and literature festivals, as well as several antique and art fairs. A huge public riverside green and weir are available at Millenium Green, which is located beneath the castle. The Green Cafe, which is close on the river, also offers good indoor and outdoor dining options. Street markets have been held in Ludlow since the eleventh century. Today, the town square hosts a classic open-air market every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of the year. With the "Local to Ludlow" produce market on certain Thursdays and an "Antique & Flea market" on some Sundays, there are more than forty stalls selling a variety of goods, including fresh vegetables, cheeses, books, and a selection of local crafts.
