We love the location down by the river. It made you feel like you were far away from town when you really were very close. There were a couple issues, but the management promptly came out and fixed it when we reported it. We would gladly stay here again.

Upon entering the house there was a noticeable off putting order. Come to find out there are mouse dropping all over. I cleaned the areas multiple times over the week we stayed. Every night, there was more. The AC in this house was not working at the end of June. Not a big deal, however it made it impossible to feel comfortable in the house. When we arrived a gentleman said the AC was broke and someone would be by to fix it. We saw no one in the 6 days we were there. The stairs to the main bedroom are at a 90 degree angle making it impossible to go up and down. No green grass in sight. The selling point to this property is the location to town, overall I would not rent again.

I can see how this would be awesome in the summer but a little muddy this time of year. I might return at some point. My daughter attends Fort Lewis and we enjoyed the hominess.
4.0
The cabin location was good, and the heads up on 4x4/awd was great, as it was muddy when i went and a 2 whd would have not made it up the steep hill. The cabin: at face value it gives woodsy cabin vibes. Along with that are some cons
Cons: mousetraps.. my children found them. Glad they knew better not to touch. But a smaller child might have grabbed the one behind the fire place.
Mouse droppings. These were found in the lower shower and at all the the window sills.
Bugs. Elderbugs galore. I lost cound at how many we killed.
The stove that was there, had one burner that was not functional.
A lamp in the bunk bed room was not functional, and was structurally not sound.
One of the bunkbeds was two twin beds with makeshift brackets holding them together, which was a bit nerve wrecking, as some ove them were loose.
Some dishes were not clean to start.
The house seemed to have lots of cracks. Maybe where bugs and mice get in?
Pros. Heating was good. There was plenty of hot water. There was a good coffee pot. Plenty of beds.
The outside was awesome, next to the river. (Cant beat that!)
Replacement of some pans would be cool. We arent chefs by any means, but the pans have seen better days.
Property management: I called them a few times, and they were great.
The were most courteous and informative. They did advise that there was intent on replacing the range/stove.
I, we, cannot say enough about the location. We loved being by the river. Overall, it was a good visit/stay.

Reviewer Comments:
This house is in the perfect location! Close to downtown, 2 minutes from Home Depot and Walmart. Being right on the animas river was so relaxing and peaceful. We loved the location but we’re a little disappointed with the description of the house versus what it actually was. I specifically searched for 3 bedrooms because 3 families with kids and dogs were coming. We all needed separate bedrooms, but one of the ‘bedrooms’ does not have a door and you have to pass through it to go to another bedroom. It’s right when you go into the basement with an open staircase so noise leaks in from the living room and kitchen. This was very frustrating seeing as we had young children who we wanted to put to sleep earlier and then adults hang out in the shared spaces but had to be extremely quiet because of the lack of a 3rd bedroom. I’d really hope that they change their description of the house or enclose that bedroom somehow. Was also a little disappointed with all the rat poop and mouse traps everywhere - thankfully we didn’t see one but it just felt a little gross. Was also disappointed that the outside gas firepit was broken - that was another big sell of this house to us. But regardless of that, we spent most of our time outside in the yard, which is beautiful. The house could just use a TLC. Property management company was extremely helpful and responsive! Tried sending out a tech to fix the firepit but we were leaving the next day.

My wife and I moved to the Double Tree hotel after the first night. Our son and fiancée moved from the basement to the upstairs bedroom where there were fewer bugs. The basement bedroom is tiny with no windows. The location is nice and the place would be good for two adults with children, but only if the bug problem is addressed. My future daughter in law got bit by something while sleeping. Very disappointing.

Everything was great for our stay. Well located for our needs, quiet, river next to the property. Only problem was in the listing not stating that there are no bedrooms on the main floor, lots of steep stairs up and down to bedrooms, second thoughts for elderly folks, such as my mother in law, who went with us. We were able to make a bed with the couch and a mattress, we worked it out.

Extremely well maintained cabin and clean which is the most important to me. Property managers were quick to respond to any questions. Stairs were steep, but the house was perfect.

Short drive to downtown. Plenty of property space if you bring pets. Just a couple things to point out:
If you have mobility issues, be aware that the two flights of stairs inside the property are really steep. The water pressure in the main kitchen sink is not good at all. This makes for a pain when cleaning dishes as there is no dishwasher. The internet does not work at all. A new router is needed. I tried to reset it multiple times as stated in the instructions for check in. I even left it unplugged overnight to reset it, still didn’t work. Just a few issues that could use some attention.

This property seemed to be ideal on paper, but wasn’t. If you have any physical disability or very small children, do not stay here. All bedrooms require going up or down some sketchy stairs. We worried about our elderly dog as well. The promised child gate never came. This cabin has only one fairly useless A/C unit, so it gets hot when Durango temperatures are in the 90’s. We brought fans with us thank goodness. Get ready for spiders on the bottom floor. They showed up in tub and near back door almost every day. This property needs an overhaul. Please throw away the “pink”cushions! No one will sit on those. On the plus side, close to River, but couldn’t use the fire pit because of fire restrictions. Also, very close to shopping and restaurants. Five minutes to downtown.

We loved our stay in the cabin. Comfortable beds and really nice touches and decor. I was a little surprised coffee wasn’t included in the kitchen but DD was just around the corner. Great location!!

Instructed to run dishwasher. No dishwasher. Chipped dishes. You did catch a mouse which we disposed of. Inadequate cooling unit spitting water when we arrived. Property definitely not up to code.
Best thing was location on the river and near town.

We had an overall pleasant stay. The photos online were well-staged to portray the cabin in its best light; in reality it was underwhelming. The 2 full beds were nice but the 2 sets of bunk bed mattresses should be replaced. The stove only had two working burners which impeded cooking. As a whole the cooking/kitchenware is pretty rough and worn so plan to bring your own if intend to prepare meals in. The setting is not rural so if you’re expecting a cabin in the woods this is not the one. With a small investment and a good scrub this cabin could be a gem. Fire pit and river access are top notch. Would have been a plus if the cooling system been turned on before our check-in time so the cabin could have been cool when we arrived.

The location at the edge of town and on the river is unbeatable. The back porch and outdoor firepit are wonderful spots. We found the lack of some kitchen supplies a little surprising, but not major. Also wish the ventilation and windows worked little better in the heat.

The property was nice and worked great for us. We had some issues with main toilet not flushing and then kitchen faucet not working. We got around these issues eventually but it seems like items should be replaced since this is a Vrbo and it is apparent these need fixed.

We loved our vacation rental! It was right on the river and had great outdoor seating. It wasn’t too far from town either. We had a group of 7 and it was perfect for us. We will definitely be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at Gabrial's Cabin. Durango is a great place to visit, and this cabin is so close to town while still feeling remote. The property is spacious, and the area around the fire pit and near the river was a great place to hang out in late afternoon and early evening. The cabin is comfortable and has most fo the supplies you need. We would happily return!

We just absolutely loved this property!! The river right behind the house was perfect!!! We had so much fun and would definitely stay here again!

Adorable property! Smaller than we would normally rent, but we made it work. We found it to be clean and the kitchen was adequately appointed, although one of the large burners on the stove wasn't working. Just FYI, the bunk room on the lowest level is a pass-thru to the full bedroom, so whoever is sleeping in the bunk room has to go upstairs to the main level to use the restroom at night. The full bedroom has an en-suite and the queen bedroom on the top level has an en-suite. The main level has a half-bath with laundry. The outdoor area is really what makes this place! The main level deck is well appointed with table and extra seating, stairs down to ground level with path to fire pit area right next to the river. Spent time fly-fishing and caught several fish right here at the house!

The cabin was pleasant in a great location right on the river. The grounds and fire pit gave us ample outdoor activity space.
The beds and bedding were decent. The kitchen items also plentiful and decent. My two complaints are: horrible chefs knife and no dishwasher. No dishwasher was nothing major. We all should be comfortable hand washing. However the chefs knife is always a major complaint. A good one is cheap and a $20.00 sharp balance chef knife is a safety issue when cutting potatoes and other hard vegetables. I do believe, since almost all VRBOs don’t have decent knives I’ll have to begin carry my own. Sorry to be so nitpicking on this, but it’s a cheap safety issue that is overlooked.
Summary. Decent cabin in a great location. Would rent there again.

Loved the property and the location. It is very close to shopping while still having a secluded feel. The property manager was very helpful as we came during multiple winter storms.

My spouse and I stayed at this gem of a location for a week and loved it. Hidden away from sight but right in Durango lies this fly fisherman’s paradise. I caught many small rainbow trout and say a big brown trout hiding deep in a hole. I couldn’t get him but had fun trying. Fly fishing heaven!!

Although 1st stay in this house, this was our 4th stay at this location. There are two houses on this property and we usually stay in the other one. Such a cozy house with a great deck and area down by the river. Couple minutes from town but can feel secluded. Can access the river path easily from the house as well as mountain bike trails within a short ride/drive. Our go-to "home" when we visit Durango.
2.5
Nice fire pit and back porch for long evening conversations.

Property is nice if you desire a natural non city experience. Ambiance of setting is peaceful along the Animus River. The house is nice. However, no windows have screens, nor does the patio door, to enjoy the mountain breeze. The house has a rodent problem with mice. nightly visits on the kitchen counter top despite multiple traps set. Kitchen track lighting didn't work. Had to replace multiple light bulb fixtures upon arrival. Nice place if you want peaceful rural setting and are tolerant of the above mentioned items.

Great property! Thank you

On the river and a 5 minute ride to miles of mountain bike trails. The main floor patio/deck was the perfect hang out spot for the family during the daytime.
