I arrived a little late due to car rental events. It was so nice of them to call to see if I was ok and still coming. I had been in Kukuihaele a couple of other times.
Buzz met me when I arrived. He is very nice and showed me the place next to his shop which he never used while I was there.
After a day I fell in love with the simple peaceful place with a wonderful view of nature. The little outdoor covered kitchen had all I needed. Best of all was sitting out there and eating all my meals and just sitting. Birds galore singing all day! And croaky frogs that sound like birds at night. Buzz keeps the grass mowed beautifully around the house and the field of fruit. I walked barefoot through the field to visit a neighbor.
It was a special time. People are friendly. Waimea is close by and superb farmers markets!
I had a wonderful time and have really fond memories staying in Kukuihaele.
There are tangerine, few orange trees, bananas, guava (yum) coconuts, gardenias, gorgeous hibiscus 🌺…. Every morning I had a fruit salad.
I walked every day to the Waipio Lookout. It’s a walk through the neighborhood. Everything is so green. You get to see and be a part of rural Hawaii and not crowded tourist places.
Honokaa is the little town 9 miles away. It’s an old sugar cane town and really charming and full of nice people who live in the area and sweet shops and cafes. Love it!
Hilo is a gorgeous drive and a great older town to visit too. Lots to do there.

The property was as advertised and owner seemed to mean well but albeit their dogs kept us awake every night running down wooden stairs howling after wild pigs in back yard area. Owner was hesitant to control them because he didn’t want his yard dug up. After complaining we had a few nights reprieve.
Only one old beach chair and a rain umbrella was offered at first. No laundry was offered. No top sheet or pillow cases for first week either.
The property and view were lovely. We enjoyed the fruit trees everyday. The owner like I said seemed to mean well but was not committed to provide the stay advertised. He said his wife usually took care of everything and she was gone at the moment.

Flew in for just a few days - the experience was met with a warm greeting, tour of place, and fresh fruit trees they graciously allowed us to pick! The view was beautiful and the grounds made it easy for a little walk.
Quiet, clean and relaxing. Thank you for your hospitality! I will share the experience -

My wife and I traveled to Honoka'a for work and were looking for a place to say around there and we found this place! It is a separate, private room underneath the house with a comfy bed and outdoors kitchenette. The hosts could not have been more kind, bringing us fresh fruit and being there to address any need that we may have had.

The host were super nice and helpful, communicated quickly. they are new at renting out their space and everything was very clean. Being someone who does stay at places alot I made a few suggestions. The view was beautiful and at night you could just hear nature talking. We came and went as needed.
