About this house rental
THE UNIQUE STORY, AS TOLD BY THE HOMEOWNER
It is more than a hundred years old, this characteristic mill in Nieuwpoort. And its history goes back even further: to the 1400s. In the not-so-distant past it served as a grain mill.
Miller Camiel Van de Putte used it to mill the grain for the local residents so that they could bake bread at home. With the upcoming of electric mills, operations ceased in the late 1940s. Even the grinding stones disappeared and the building fell into disrepair. Yet 40 years later, around 1980, the mill was still there. And it had remained in possession of Camiel's relatives. They decided to give the Nieuwpoortmolen a new purpose. During a major 5-year-long no time pressure renovation project, they converted the grain mill into a home.
With respect for the character of the building. The family first lived here themselves before opening it up as a holiday home. So now you step inside and get a taste of the rich past of this special place. You walk through unique round rooms, peer through small mill windows and spot a few original beams here and there. In a cosy interior, you do not only soak up the atmosphere. You also enjoy the beautiful, sloping region. The open veranda brings that nature straight into your home.
Despite all the charm, you do not lose out on comfort. A well-equipped kitchen, a spacious bathroom and central heating ensure that your holiday will be carefree. In addition, a cosy stove on the ground floor will warm you up in winter. The sloping province of East Flanders is the ideal place for those who want to spend time with the whole family in peace and quiet. Walkers will also enjoy this wooded area. And cyclists will be eager to chase the Tour of Flanders (Ronde van Vlaanderen).
