About this cottage rental
What will you do with 100 foot of private lake frontage all to yourself?
The perfect day begins with a coffee on the deck with a birds eye view of the sun iluminating the lake. Moving down to the 30 foot dock you enjoy swimming and soaking in the sun all day. The day extends into the afternoon as you sip cocktails watching the sun sink in the distance. Recount the day as you dine alfresco on the deck with friends and family. The stone fireplace will make you hope for 1 rainy day.
The space
Nestled in the pine and cedar trees, you will find the Blue Bird's Nest. Welcomed by the wrap around deck, we recommend passing by the front door to check out the view of the lake before unpacking.
Once inside, you will enjoy the open concept common space. No one will be left out of the action even when in the kitchen.
The cottage is 3 bedrooms - one queen bedroom, one double bedroom and a small bedroom with 2 single beds. The space fits 2 couples and 2 children very comfortably. 2 additional children can be accommodated with a floor matress and couch, allowing for the maximum capacity of 8.
The 3pc bathroom (toilet, sink, and shower) is newly renovated, cosy, and has a rainhead and handheld shower (no tub). Only hand towels are provided. Please remember your bath and beach towels. The cottage is on a holding tank, so we ask you to be water conscious.
The living room has a comfy L shaped couch with fluffy pilows and blankets for a cozy cup of tea in front of the fire or popcorn on movie night (hot air popper is provided). The gorgeous stone fireplace makes a statement, and you will find everything you need to build and start a fire on a cold damp day.
The kitchen is newly renovated and again cozy but well designed. The movable island creates the ability to interact with others and ensures sous chefs can get involved without being in the way. The 2 very comfy stools also allow for the island to be a work space (Bell Fibe wifi allows for video work meetings) or turn the stools around for extra living room seating.
The kitchen is fully equipped for 8 with dishes for inside and outside. (no glass is permitted outside of the cottage)
Appliances include full size fridge with upper freezer, standard electric range with oven, air fryer, 12 cup drip coffee maker and 2 cup french press, kettle, 4 slice toaster, hot air popper and hand beater (for whip cream on your strawberry shortcake).
Dish towels and dish cloths, salt and pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinigar along with vegetable oil, sugar, flour, tea, and coffee are all provided. Garlic, tandoori, and cinamon spices are provided as possible stand ins.
The indoor dining room seats 6 comfortably and accommodates 8, continuing the theme. Board games are provided for hours of evening fun. This space is a possible second workspace. (Bell Fibe wifi allows for video work meetings)
Alexia is at your beck and call, and a firestick allows for multiple options on the TV. Just bring the info for your favorite account. Disney Plus, Netflix, Prime...
The theme throughout is cozy but well equipped.
Once you settle in, it's time to get outside. There are lots of options... a quiet morning coffee for 2 on the deck. A selection of outdoor games including bocci ball and disk golf which both become cross country due to the terain.
And yes... THE DOCK! The dock again allows for 6 muskoka chairs comfortably and a cozy seating for 8. The kids won't sit long with the aqua mat as the main attraction. The water is beautiful and clean. The lake bottom starts out sandy, gravel, and rocks. It gets softer as you go out, and there are some weeds. Unfortunatly like most ontario lakes we also have zebra mussels and water shoes are recommeded. I prefer not to wear water shoes and have cleared a path. The lake is about chest deep at the end of the dock. Further across the bay, it gets to about 20 feet deep. There is also a sandy beach (Sand Bay), a short paddle, or drive away. Check out the guidebook! This part of Ontario has been blessed with a strip of canadian sheild, which provides beautiful rock formations and windswept pines that will have you wanting to explore the lake. Take the canoe or kayaks (there are 2) for a paddle. There is so much to see. (Life jackets are available. Please confirm sizing for your group). Fishing rods are also available. Please confirm licensing requirements. Adventure awaits at Browns Island, which is a Provincial Park just to the left of the dock. Swim, canoe or kayak over, and explore the flora and fauna. The terrain is untamed and gorgeous. Please leave nothing behind but footprints.
All that's left to do is choose your perfect day!
Other things to note
The Dock
Sometimes it gets windy. Even wooden muskoka chairs can be blown off the dock. I learned this by finding one of my chairs floating against my neighbors dock. Wooden muskoka chairs should be left on the portion of the deck nearest the shore when not in use as they could blow off the dock and into the water. Plastic chairs should not be left on the dock. Personal items like inflatables should be tied to the dock. The aquamat must be tied to the dock at all times, this costs
$600 to replace.
Boating
Always ensure you have a life jacket for each person in the canoe/kayak and one orange safety kit per boat and at least 2 paddles for canoe 1 for Kayak to avoid possible fines. All equipment is provided.
Water
Please be mindful of your use of water as the cottage is on a holding tank. Turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, doing a sinkful of dishes instead of washing one at a time and water concious showers all support water conservation and are apreciated.
Ideas on what to bring:
- hat
- sunglasses
- swim suit
- water shoes (some are provided)
- beach towel
- bath towel for shower (only hand towels are provided)
- reusable water bottle
- life jacket if a specific size is needed
- book
- fishing license
- worms or other bait if you plan on fishing
