It was a great experience all around!

We had a great time on this trip! The house was beautiful, the location was great, and property Managemnet was easy to contact. Would definitely stay again!
4.8
The outdoor area is absolutely amazing. We paid for water heating for our October stay and it was well worth it, the pool was quite comfortable and the river feature was very popular with everyone. The ocean was definitely comfortably close, and it's short walk to the pier. The layout of the home was great, especially the living room/dining room. The reason for four stars instead of 5 is a little maintenance is needed - a number of the mattresses/beds seem to be at the end of their lifespan, and the floor of the lower level bathroom needs repair. But this is a great home for a family get together.

Our family (13 adults, 4 littles) just finish a week at his property. Plenty of room to spread out, yet common area were large enough for together time. The house is awesome, but this spot for us was really about the outdoor amenities and location! Pics are deceptive, as the house we much closer to the beach than we expected. Great views of the waves from all decks, and the crashing waves lulling us to sleep each night. A highlight of the trip was a bonfire s’mores night right on the beach with our whole crew. The pools were prefect for the adults and the littles, and the heat feature made them comfy even during the cool nights. Location was quite and felt remote. Thanks Swackhammers for an awesome stay.

House has everything you need!! Beautiful ocean view and perfect outdoor space! Couple of minor issues and they got back to us within minutes with resolution
Can’t wait for next year!!

Everything was very nice with the exception of the pool, it had so much algae in it that we stayed out on the beach most of the time.
House was very nice and the pool could have been in good shape with some attention.

We had a wonderful week, we had four generators from 18 months to 83. The house is great for watching the sun rise, watching family playing on the beach, sitting under the cabana talking with family, we renamed the baby pool the adult lounge. Highly recommend can’t say enough great things. The property manager was great during the hurricane with information. Anyone booking this house you won’t be disappointed, this is our second visit.
4.8
Property is wonderful, the pool area was incredible. The kiddie pool was an amazing asset for the littles, the lazy river was clutch.

It is always our 1st choice for our family beach vacation. We have stayed at Rio Rodanthe 4 out of the last 5 years. Hats off to the Swackhammers! We prefer the slow pace of Rodanthe as opposed to Hatteras or Nagshead.

This home is beautiful, we had 20 family members from 8-69yo. None of us were bored. There’s something for everyone. The teens shopped and walked to nearby ice cream and when they stayed up later then grandma and grandpa, we couldn’t hear them. The adults relaxed on the short walk to beach, the younger ones loved the lazy river and the pool and so did grandma! Many levels of decks to lounge on, nice deck to play games on with nicely appointed furniture. Since the bunk room and 2 other bedrooms are downstairs, sharing one bathroom was a challenge.
We loved the 3 full refrigerators and fully stocked kitchen. Also there were many floats and noodles for the pool for all ages. Studio 12 is not far away and we all did a ceramic project on Monday and got the finished souvenir on Wednesday, highly recommend this! The Teens and twenties went jet skiing right across the street.

We had a wonderful time, and the house is perfectly located to give to provide the best view on the beach. Renata was hugely helpful to answer our questions about the area. Plenty of room for alone and together time for our family of eleven. You have everything you need to spend a funfilled family vacation at the beach, and lounge at the pool. The lazy river made this trip a blast for the grownups and the kids played endless rounds of Marco Polo in the pool. We can’t wait to come back.

The house was amazing Dawn is an amazing host very quick to respond to any questions we had. The lazy river was awesome. Everything was great

Rio Rodanthe was the perfect home and location for a much needed family vacation.

Overall the house was nice and relatively clean. The view was absolutely beautiful! When we had any issues the response was quick and helpful. One issue was that the DVD player didn’t work, so they brought us a new one. We had a leak from the upstairs toilet down to the bedroom below and that was fixed within a day or so. The kitchen was well equipped. We had 14 people and everyone could eat together. There was enough room to spread out and many outside activities. We had bad weather - very cold and windy but we managed to get outside and go to the beach here and there. The only real disappointment was that we paid for the pool to be heated and it wasn’t working until Tuesday afternoon when the pool guy came and said it wasn’t on. He turned it on. Once he turned it on, the pool was warm by Wednesday morning and we were able to swim from Wed - Friday. We asked for a refund for Sat - Tuesday when the pool was not heated (yet we paid for) but we have not received a refund or a reply confirming we would. I’ve asked multiple times and I received mostly silence except a response that they’d check on it several days ago..nothing since. My last requests for an update has gone unanswered. I waited as long as I could to do this review in hopes that I would get a reply and refund but it has not happened yet. I am very sad to write this in my review but it’s the principle. I am still hoping to get a response.

Beautiful house with tastefully beach decorations in every room. A short walk to the beach or you can watch the ocean waves from every room on the ocean side. The pools, lazy river and hot tub was fun for everyone. Everyone was planning a return trip before we even left. Very memorable and relaxing vacation!

All 19 of us plus 2 dogs. Had a great time! House was perfect. Pleanty of space .We all enjoyed the pools. Wonderful week of family time! Hope to visit again!!

The entire group 10 adults and 10 kids had a great time. The house was clean when we arrived and accommodated five families with plenty of space. The pool and lazy river kept the kids occupied. We caught fish right from the surf in front of the house and there was a dive bar with a DJ and karaoke within walking distance. This place offers something for everyone!! Highly recommend!!!

The house was beautiful and just as described. Everything was very clean and organized. Ample space for all of our belongings. The 3 refrigerators were perfect for all of our groceries as we had 4 families staying there. The kids and adults had a blast in the pools and hot tub and being steps to the beach was amazing. We saw dolphins everyday which was a highlight of our trip! Great location if you want to explore the sand dunes, lighthouse, shipwreck and more. Renata and Dawn were great to communicate with and got back to us quickly on any questions we had leading up to our arrival. We HIGHLY recommend booking this house for your next getaway.

We had some unexpected visitors in the form of cockroaches. The house was missing screens on several of the windows and sliding door. I feel that the cleaning fee should be refunded seeing that we had cockroaches. Seeing that you charge for every little thing that might go wrong I would like a refund for the cockroaches.

The house was amazing and very spacious. Even though we couldn’t use the lazy river, we made use of the view and the wonderful sunsets and sunrises.

Loved the house and loved the location and loved the space but our 2nd day there we found roaches in the house emailed property manager and they said they would check into it and never heard no more. We paid for heating pool and lazy river and neither were up to temp until our last 2 days there but not in lazy river it was still at 71 when we left
4.8
We have zero complaints about this house and location. We had 2 families total of 13 people. Kids ranging from age 1-8. The lazy River and easy beach access was perfect for our family. The lazy River and pools were a hit with the kids. Beautiful views of the sunrise and sunsets.
Washer was broke BUT we always pack extra clothing and the property manager was very responsive and we had a new washer by Tuesday morning. It’s always risky taking vacation in the Outerbanks during hurricane season. The roads were still a little flooded in parts this week(normal for hurricane season) . If you stay anywhere in this area and you go during hurricane season it’s a must to keep a close eye on the weather and stay fueled up in case you need to leave. We look forward to the next vacation at this property.

Everything was fine except the washing machine was broken. The repairman was sent twice but unable to fix it. With that being said we were left with one towel and washrag per person for an entire week. Instead of offering us more towels and wash rags we were informed where there were laundry facilities, which was not the cleanliness of places. Lesson learned pack your own towels and wash rags.
The road to the property and the driveway flooded when it was raining and during high tide so badly that our family members that were driving cars were unable to make it through and had to park their cars and wade through the water to get to the house which was at least 1/2 mile walk. Definitely need a truck or suv to be on the safe side as were were flooded in for 2 days straight. Which wasn’t a bad thing as it gave for lots of family fun in the wonderful pool and lazy river. Overall we would stay here again if the price was right.

Love the back "yard". Everyone loved the lazy river and hot tub.
The view from the top deck was amazing. We loved walking on the beach to the pier and back in the mornings. The house itself was perfect for our needs. Looking forward to our next visit.

This was our first visit to Rio Rondathe and we had a great week staying here! Easy check in process; amazing weather, lots of neat places to explore & we really enjoyed the poolside as well as the various water options. The kitchen was a little challenging due to its size and having several great cooks on hand but we figured out a way to navigate the kitchen so that everyone did their thing

Our large group.of 15 spent a week at Rio Rodanthe. The house is perfect! Beautiful location, the lazy river was AMAZING. Kids and adults loved it! The house is perfect for a large group, everyone had space. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and all beds were comfortable. We feel in love with the washer and dryer.. sounds crazy but it's a serious Maytag set..was a real hit with me and the other moms. Dont hesitate to book, we were sad to see 2023 summer is already fully booked. Maybe we will all return for 2024. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Property is well suited for kids and adults alike. Spacious bedrooms, enough bathrooms for all, and an outdoor setup that can’t be beat. Our kids may be spoiled for life with that lazy river. Be mindful of beach access, which seems affected by recent erosion… there was some debris on the beach from recent house collapses in the area. Didn’t detract from our stay in the least… a wonderful place and great time!

Our family Just completed our stay at Rio Rodanthe. We had a great time. We had 6 kids between the ages of 1 - 8, parents and grandparents. Without a doubt the Backyard private water park was the favorite feature for all ages. We could not get enough of the lazy river and the kids loved playing in the waterfall. There was comfortable modern pool area furniture to spare and a composite deck that allowed clean, splinter free play for the kids. The kid pool was partially shaded and only about 15 inches deep which was great for our 20 month old to play in. The minibar on the 1st floor was great for making poolside drinks without having to truck it up to the 3rd floor kitchen. It only took 2 or 3 minutes to walk from the pool to the ocean.
The house itself was extremely accommodating for our family’s needs. Every bedroom had newer beachy furniture and a king bed, except for the double bunk bed room, which the kids loved. The elevator was helpful for move in/move out days and allowed our older family members easy access to everything. The large dinning table was great for meals and games. The kitchen was a bit on the small side, but was modern and well equipped. There were full size 2nd and 3rd refrigerators that provided plenty of fridge space.
The house was very clean, but could use a little updating in the bathrooms. A few rusty vents and dated linoleum floors, but not a show stopper.
2 negatives worth noting:
1. The condition of the beach and sandy area between the pool and beach. There was debris all through it. Pieces of wood with nails sticking out of it, old pieces of dune fencing all around and lots of washed up debris. We found out from the locals that it is not typically like this but there was a house that collapsed into the ocean very recently and caused some of this. We had to go through it on day 1 and move all hazards out of the way.
2. The sand volleyball court was overgrown with vegetation that has prickly thorny burrs all through it, making it unusable.
All in all, we had a great experience at Rio Rodanthe and I would recommend it to others, pending a beach cleanup in that area.

The exterior of the property is gorgeous, with the Lazy River, wading pool, standard pool and hot tub. The deck is huge, with very nice, solid patio furniture. There is a cover over the wading pool, which provides limited shade during the peak of the day.
The beach was only a short walk away, but it has suffered from major erosion, so that at high tide, the beach was only 8-10 feet wide, and very steep. I predict that the homes on the water will be washed away in a few years, and Rio Rodanthe will become oceanfront! There was a shower by the deck to rinse off after a day at the beach.
The interior of the house was OK. There are bedrooms on all 3 floors, The kitchen and living areas are on the third level. There are plenty of decks to view the extraordinary scenery.
The kitchen is surprisingly small for a house this large. You could only have two people at a time without umping into each other. It was fairly well equipped with dishes, glassware and cookware - except there were no wine glasses!
The elevator came in very handy, especially during move-in and move-out. We discovered that it would get stuck on the top level, until the door was pushed closed at the top. This had to be done from the outside, so it could not be used if no one else was around to do it.
In addition to the fridge in the kitchen, there was another nearby in the wet bar area, which we used for beverages, and another on the first level, which came in handy for poolside.
On trash pick-up days (there were 2), the cans needed to be rolled to the main road, which took about 10 minutes round-trip.
Other than the items mentioned above, we had no issues - everything worked as expected. We had a wonderful time, and will consider Rio Rodanthe for the next family vacation!

Great place to stay. House was clean except for blinds are dirty and could use a coat of paint in places. Kitchen was very well stocked with every we could need. Three refrigerators gave us plenty of cold space. Couches looked new. The outdoor pool space is incredible! The lazy River was such a hot and the deck furniture is awesome. Pool was a little cold. Didn’t pay to heat it wish it had been Included in the price. Overall my family loved it and they all want to come back again.

Our family enjoyed a week together at Rio Rodanthe. The kids loved the lazy river! The set up is amazing! No need to go anywhere to be entertained as everything is in your backyard. The only downside was housing debris in the sand volleyball court. A tractor with a rake was there the night before we left so maybe this has been cleaned up.

Had a wonderful week at Rio Rodanthe. The outdoor area is amazing! The lazy river was perfect! Plenty of seating inside and out. The elevator came in handy – loading and unloading luggage and groceries. Kitchen is well stocked with 2 regular coffee makers, 2 crock pots, blender, pots, pans, dishes, cups, etc.. The extra bar areas (with fridges) was helpful! Dog friendly rental was a must have for us! Can’t wait to visit again.

This home has an awesome outside area. We especially enjoyed the lazy river. Was a bit disappointed in the beach area due to recent storms but we were close enough to drive to Hatteras Village park and spend the day on the beach. Also close to both lighthouses. Our family had a wonderful time!
