For starters it was difficult because of the language barrier. First European city that we had this problem. The hotel is old, even though there does appear to be many upgrades. We had to go up and down a few steps with our bags which was not easy.
Our room felt warm and stuffy and in trying to communicate we understood there was no AC. It has been raining here for days, so the humidity and thick air was uncomfortable.
The open window helped cool the room off but there was a terrible odor the whole evening that was a combination of dampness and an awful smell of possibly food cooking.
To further make things miserable after a long travel day was the fact that our room overlooked the front door and was noisy…..probably mostly due to the open window. The very loud Ferrari that enjoyed racing his engine in the driveway right after we finally fell asleep did not help.

The attention to detail is impressive at this beautiful old hotel. Apparently it is the only family owned large hotel in Heidelberg and the fact that we met the owners when wandering the halls, shows their involvement, along with the manager who frequents each breakfast. The location is very convenient and it is a very special and charming place to stay.

Great location, excellent service, great atmosphere. It's "historic" with a lot of "old world" charm.

Very personal welcoming with old style elegance and hospitality. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish it could have been for longer. The area is busy so please make reservations for dinner at surrounding restaurants or you will wander from one restaurant to another being declined a table

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg for one night on our way through Heidelberg to see the Christmas markets. It was a fantastic experience, and I recommend this hotel to everyone! The rooms were so cozy and the beds so comfortable, that I honestly wanted to be in the room more than at the Christmas market! The linens were so soft and the personal duvets were delightful. We had a positive experience with every employee, and after encountering downright rude employees in other German hotels (yes, I'm American!), it was refreshing to be somewhere where everyone was extremely pleasant and kind. We got a drink at the bar and breakfast room service, so I feel like we saw many facets of the hotel. It definitely earns its five star rating!

This is a beautiful hotel that envelops you in classic luxury of yesteryear. Decor brings you back in time with total elegance and the staff is truly 5 star. Great shops and restaurants in walking distance and some very good hiking trails across the street that bring you up to the tower with great views.

I reserved a double room, I did not expect 2 twin beds pushed together with a crack in the center. Also, the bed was hard as a rock, pillows with zero neck support and a bathtub with “ jets” that did not work.
Breakfast was ALL or nothing, no option for just coffee.

It’s a beautiful boutique hotel with beautiful decor, spacious room, very friendly staff, easy 8-10 walk to old town… walkable to Schlissen Palace (around 20 min), university of Heidelberg, very happy staying at this hotel!

My husband, father-in-law and I were extremely impressed with how personable management was with the guests. The management and staff was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure my husband and his dad had a great birthday and that we were taken care of. They checked in with us everyday to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, made reservations for us, took care of any need we had. We will definitely be going back!
