We had a wonderful stay, it was our anniversary and they made swans out of the towels, put rose petals on the bed and left us some delicious macarons and an anniversary card, it was so thoughtful. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was so comfortable! We had breakfast served in our room too, which was a real treat.

Beautiful hotel. Lovely touches such as hot chocolate in reception available with marshmallows, such a treat. Bar area great with lovely band playing in the evening.
Stayed with friends and booked under one reservation but was disappointed when our rooms were on different levels.
There is no spa facilities which is confusing from photos of website.

The hotel itself is lovely and the staff all very helpful/friendly.
£225 a night I think is steep, you have to pay for parking and our room was on the smaller side and stuffy. No window as on ground floor, but had a door which led to the car park for obvious reasons couldn’t leave that open. Bathroom small and you couldn’t turn the towel rail off so was boiling. The shower hose kept disconnecting from the shower head, but was a fully booked hotel and 11pm so didn’t bother saying anything as we wanted to go to bed!
A shame as I had high hopes, but the hotel itself is lovely i just don’t think it’s worth that sort of money.

Lovely hotel in a good location the rooms are really nice, the only down side is that the breakfast service was really slow, the breakfast itself was lovely but it took ages before they took our order we waited a really long time even to get a cup of tea, also couldn't get in the car park and had trouble getting into the other car park they suggest you use.

Everyone has been very pleasant and helpful however I was very disappointed when we tried to eat in on Saturday evening. We were never told we had to book a table nor were we informed there would be an event that evening allowing food only to be served in the bar area. We were eventually accommodated with another table being set up. However the bar was busy and it was surprising that all the coats of the event guests were hung in the bar area which certainly detracted from the ambience. I would have thought they should have been placed in an area actually rented by the wedding party.

We stay here while visiting family living nearby. The location is great near to family and walking distance to city centre. We love the shops and restaurants in the centre and the hotel restaurant is great as well with good views onto Parkers Piece. The room was very comfortable but there were some stains on the carpet and a little mould on the bathroom ceiling. Whenever we stay at this hotel we have always found the staff to be excellent; friendly, polite and helpful - will obviously stay here again.

The glass sliding door to our shower room had come off its bottom runner and was swinging dangerously when we arrived. The service and quality of food in the restaurant on Sunday evening was dreadful apparently due to staffing problem in the kitchen. There were several mistakes in our bill when we checked out. We had been charged for breakfasts we did not have. The meal bill has been charged twice to our acccount and we are told that this should be sorted out in a few days!

Nice hotel. Central position. Rather short of staff on reception. Nice touch two free drinks. Would be nice to book parking in advance. Small room but nicely done

Hotel lacks personality, decor bland modern, lighting harsh as an airport even in bar and dining room, no atmosphere at all. Bar food not good.
Accessible bedroom excellent- well thought out with lots of walkable space, very comfortable king size bed.
Reception staff helpful, bar and waiting staff would benefit from more training.
Hotel position excellent- pity all character has been removed.

Stayed for the night for my Boyfriends birthday and we were both really surprised with how nice it was, beautiful hotel and really friendly staff. We had a more basic room but it was still perfect for what we needed.

This is a first class hotel. Very nice if small rooms. The staff were very helpful. Dinning was very good. Parking was available and included Tesla electric car charging (one of two stations working). Located across the street from University and easy walking distance to major sites and museums.

Really nice hotel ! Clean and presentable and a touch of subtle elegance. Only negative was that our shower only ran cold water !

We had a lovely stay at the Gonville. I marked it down slightly due to the room (classic double) being a bit snug, particularly in the bathroom. As the bathroom was so small, a sliding door would work better and could easily be fitted giving more space, it would also prevent the water damage at the bottom of the door, caused by the walk in shower overflowing under the door. The room was long but narrow making it difficult to walk past the bottom of the bed without banging your head on the wall mounted tv. The room was decorated very nicely and had a clean homely feel. One pet peeve at all hotels, is the sticker in the bathroom asking you to be eco friendly by re-using towels, and to leave them on rails if you don't want them changed. But, they still change them!

The location was great. the room was clean. The bathroom was tiny and I am not a big person 5ft 4 56 kilos. Staff were not friendly. The only bar was outside in September. We chose the hotel for parking and location but when we got there there were not parking spaces. We got a space the next day and were charged £26 for one night. We should have stayed in the multi storey which was cheaper. There were no VIP benefits

Excellent service - probably one of the best services I have ever experienced, from reception (Josh was exceptional) to chauffeur Zane.

Wonderful hotel. Walking distance to the University area. Very quiet. Comfortable bed. Attention to details. Would certainly go back

There was a lot of young unhelpful staff milling around the dining area/ coffee machine just chatting. There was no facility to check in early or even a place to go to have a conference call in relative peace and quiet. Although the place looks well polished in the photos this isn’t the reality as the place looked a bit tired in places

Lovely hotel within walking distance to City. Very close to the station too.
Hotel is well kept and the people working on there are very friendly and helpful.
The room was comfortable, good air conditioning. But, the hot water supply was unacceptable. Wanted a shower before going out in the evening. No hot water. When raised was told ‘old hotel and pipes’ which is very quaint. But not what you’d expect from a £140 a night. No hot water on demand isn’t on for any reason. Had to run the bath taps and the sink taps for ten minutes to get any chance of hot water. Which is wasteful. Especially when you see a notice to save water by reusing your towels ! Dear Gonville owners. You need to get the absolute minimum basics right if you’re charging good money. It was just a real shame and definitely deflated the quality of the weekend away. Staff were very friendly throughout and it’s obvious they’ve had to deal with this issue before.

Good hotel but could be great!
Check in was fantastic and the room lovely, hotel in general is very nice and the bed was sooooo comfortable.
However bar staff and waiting staff at breakfast where inadequately trained and didn’t appear to be managed which was a shame as the rest of the team were on the whole very efficient..
Room lacked glasses for water and paint had been rubbed off the wardrobe, one of the light switches didn’t work properly and the skirting by the shower was poorly repaired due to water damage.
I’d still recommend this hotel, great location the bed was so comfortable and all of the above are easily fixed
