I recently booked a stay with the Sonesta Resort hotel in Auburn Hills. My family and I had just driven a long distance and were expected to stay in the hotel for 11 days after my husband got transferred to the Detroit area for work. In short; the conditions of the room were dirty and a health risk. I have never in my life wrote a bad review for a hotel regardless of the circumstances. I have never left a hotel regardless of how bad some of the conditions have been. In the case of this hotel I was forced to leave due to health reasons and was not honored a refund like I was promised. To sum things up, our first room had an entire wall of mold. There was hair/dirt on the bed, grime spills all over the walls and a musty smell. We got switched to a new room 5 mins later and while the room did not have mold there was urine on the toilet, a tomato on one bed, and chunky food stains on two of the other beds. We asked if housekeeping could come up and switch out all the beds due to all the sheets being dirty. They instead came up and handed up one sheet saying this is all they had left in the entire hotel. We ended up going downstairs asking to check out due to the conditions. We were told the hotel was just purchased and the rooms we were put in were not remodeled yet. They stated they’d get us a refund given the circumstances, but weeks later have still not honored that. We left for health reasons and were forced to book a hotel twice the rate last minute.

The room I booked, the tv wasn’t working, it took about 30 minutes to get another one. The hotel was dirty the room was clean but the walls were dirty, especially the bathroom. Some of the fixtures were loose, for example toilet paper holder screws were backed out. When I checked out they couldn’t provide a receipt and said they would email one. Didn’t receive one, called and still didn’t receive one, emailed corporate and finally got one.

Shower drain stopper broke. Headboard worn, microwave handle broken. No usb port or smart TVs. 1 elevator. Free WiFi, don’t bother. I got the feeling I was going to be blamed for these damages. I was assured I wasn’t, due to an upcoming overdue remodel. W

The associates at the front desk did not seem to know how to handle a crowd. At one instance three people were working on an issue one guest was facing and 5 guests were waiting. I had two rooms. The keys to one room did not work & I had to go to front desk three times to re-issue the key. This happened each of the three days. The associate said 'sorry' but did not seem to care why this was happenning. The breakfast had many items but it was a so-so breakfast. I guess that is what an included breakfast is.

Cynthia at the front desk was AMAZING! so helpful and kind, even though she was doing the work of several employees. However, I wish the room had been a bit cleaner. The sheets did not seem to be very clean- there was hair on the sheets when I peeled back to top comforter. Our room was right by the elevator and ice machine and people were loud into the early morning hours, 1am. However, love the pet friendly policy and the breakfast in the morning was 5 star. Overall, I would revisit.

First impressions matter!!! The parking lot, to the side was littered with bottles, cans, and cups, and a pillow that clearly had been there for several days as it was filthy. Immediately got a bad vibe. It is hard to believe that our room was even cleaned before we arrived. There was a used cup, out of the plastic, in the bathroom, that was wet, there was a used tissue that someone had put in the empty tissue box on the bathroom counter. (so gross that I touched it). There was no toilet paper on the roll. The tub would not drain (it took over an hour for the water to drain after my shower), the kitchen sink also didn't drain. There was a noticeable odor in the room, the a/c shut off in the middle of the night and the room became scorching hot. The small couch was very worn and not comfortable at all. This is not at all what I was expecting for the price I paid for this room. Normally we stay at Embassy Suites by Hilton and for a slightly higher price, we decided we'd try Sonesta out this time. We will NEVER be back. Very disappointing experience. The only positive out of our stay was the breakfast, which was decent. Do yourself a favour and chose a different spot. Cleanliness matters!!! If I wanted the Red Roof Inn, I would have stayed there. Do better Sonesta.

We arrived at the hotel and the receptionist was having a phone conversation while checking us in. It was the fastest weirdest check in. Our keys then did not work so back to the desk we went. Receptionist still on the phone. There was some issue with online booking I gathered. Once we arrived in our room we were excited as a group of five to see the amount of space for the price. That quickly turned backwards as there was a strong cat pee or cat litter smell from one of the closets. It was late, we had already been to the desk twice, we needed to be out the door super early so we sprayed air freshener to just get through it. During the night the heat kicked on when we turned the blaring air conditioning off. It then smelled as if something was burning hair. We got the system to turn off so the weird smell stopped. Left early in the morning and again returned late. Too tired to request a different room we again sprayed air freshener and powered through. Never will stay at this hotel again. The head board on one of the beds appeared to be animal scratched and peeling, the couch was dirty, and the list could go on and on.

Lovely hotel. Very clean super friendly staff. Bery spacious rooms great room amenities. We had the pleaaure of staying for one night as we were passing by, but will definitely will be staying there in the future when in the area. Would highly recommended

The place is unkempt and in need of repair. We had a broken door in our unit that we immediately flagged to maintenance, but it was evident that it had been broken for quite some time and guests had continued to try to use it. The tile floors in our room's bathrooms did not feel clean; they were slippery but not in a "recently cleaned" way. More in a "these have years of grime on them" way. The bathroom off the lobby had feces on the seat. The luggage cart had four flat tires. The breakfast was fine, but the staff was not friendly if we asked for something (e.g., more half and half at the coffee bar).
