Great central location to everything in town, clean and lovely room

Reception staff was very friendly and willing to assist with any needs. When we got to our room, the window (ground floor) was open and there was a sewer gas smell. Staff thought it was from the outside and after closing the window, it stopped. We had a new guest punch in the key code and open our room. Not sure why they were given our room and code. No place to hang towels in the bathroom, only one bar on the door. Very small room which is hard to ascertain from the pictures. Double bed but one person has to crawl over the other to get out. Breakfast was nice but limited and in a very small room for the size of the guests the two sites hold. The lobbies in each site have great 1920s character. We were ok for one night but would not recommend more. It was great there was free parking and an easy walk to downtown and restaurants. No problem walking around at night.

During our entire stay in Iceland (so far), this has been the best hotel - professional, helpful staff, very comfortable and clean room, great bed and big pillows, clean bathroom, great location (near shops and restaurants) and plenty of free nearby parking

This hotel was fantastic! The staff was super helpful and nice, and everything was designed so beautifully. Breakfast was amazing and even had gluten free options. The only reason for 4 stars was the noise level. We could hear people walking outside our window, and when anyone would close their door in the hallway, it was super loud. We also heard really loud construction hammering in the morning which was unfortunate. I would still absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone, I would only suggest that you bring earplugs with you. This isn't the fault of the hotel, it's just the way it's built. But honestly loved this place and would stay here again!

Breakfast was outstanding. Room was very small. It was fine for the one night I stayed but a longer stay would have been inconvenient.

Hotel Dynheimar and Hotel Akureyri are operated by the same management. This review is for the Akureyri. This hotel has very cool decor! The lobby has funky and fun furniture, a nice bar, free pool table, and plays mellow tunes. Even the hallways have cool artwork. The included breakfast was good, and the restaurant fare is reported to be great (it was booked up a day in advance so we couldn't try it out tho). I would recommend that breakfast diners also consider carrying their plates to the nearby lobby to eat, as the dedicated dinning area is quite small and fills up quickly. The lobby is awesome so enjoy this option!
Tip:The surrounding area and town are very walkable, and there is a beautiful botanical garden at the top of the hill with an awesome cafe. Check it out if the weather is good!

Location of the property is very good right in front of
water. The rooms shown on Expedia is not the ones they give you, so that’s a false marketing. You pay the price looking at the room. When we checked in, we were being given rooms in their adjoining building which didn’t have the same view & probably not same looks & design. When asked for the rooms we had booked, we were asked to pay more & have been charged twice of what we were told. I feel if they have different types of rooms with different views they have to market it accordingly. They can’t charge me for
Gold & provide me with bronze. Felt cheated.

The two young men from Barcelona working the front desk were fantastic. Helping us understand where our room was located, where to park, dining options, and breakfast strategy were all shared and helpful. There needs to be a sign on the door to let people know to go to the Hotel Akureyri to check in. While I did get an email, I only saw if after I checked in.

Biggest problem: every time the front door of the hotel closed it shook our entire room and this was over and over.

I had high hopes for this spot. It looks great, and it's close to everything you want to see in Akureyri, but some things aren't just coming together for them: 1) TV unit has to connect to guest Wifi, which is impossible so we had to hotspot our own device to use it (and the front desk had no idea how to fix, and said they were going to tell the manager, who never followed up) 2) the free breakfast is good, but it's chaos at times with limited utensils, crowding and sometimes things feel 'old' (ie cold soft boiled eggs). 3) the rooms are stuffy and there's no ventilation other than opening the window to the street. This makes for a less than restful sleep.
I have high hopes for what they have planned but these little details made for some bumps that can easily be ironed out.

Very nice new hotel. Only con is the noise. Very thin windows and walls making all talking on the street, and in the hallways very loud. Also were woken up many times in the night to the sounds of doors slamming as it would also shake the door to our room.

There was construction on the property that impacted entrances and was noisy early in the morning. Staff were great and breakfast was also great!
