About this house rental
“Samarai” - Just Listed!
Beach views, heritage ambience, oozing character and luxury comforts – historic Samarai has everything you need for an exceptional stay in the beautiful seaside surrounds of Point Lonsdale, Victoria.
Watch the boats sail through the heads of Port Phillip Bay or enjoy the sunsets over the water from the verandah, walk the beach or the boardwalk across the road on the shore - Samarai is a house for all families and all seasons.
Challenge the teens for a game of billiards in the new Rumpus extension; cricket on the lawn or relax while younger children play in the renovated garden or with the toys, games and books hidden in the ‘treasure chests’ of their bedroom. There are spaces here to relax and spaces to entertain on the outdoor patio and verandah - for drinks, BBQ or Pizza nights cooked on the outdoor facilities.
Visit some wineries, local produce farms, heritage sites or any of the sublime beaches that make up the Bellarine region – an irresistable combination of pleasures from the sea and local farming communities.
Built 120 years ago, historic “Samarai” is one of the iconic maritime seaside properties on the Bellarine Peninsula. Local lore cites the house as being the original home of the Captain of the Pilot boats since the turn of last century – when shipwrecks were still common in the tricky waters of the entrance to Port Phillip Bay. ‘Samarai’ has remained a family home ever since. Recently renovated and refurbished to create a unique luxury seaside residence and beachside rental, the house retains all the period features of Federation weatherboard architecture with many modern comforts and an interior inspired by ideas of maritime adventure and history, inspired and unique styling appreciated by imaginative, discerning families of today.
With five bedrooms – two with gorgeous sea views - and sleeping up to 12 people, “Samarai” has three King beds with ensuite/ toilet, a twin room, one double bunk room, three bathrooms, two living areas, an outdoor deck/ dining area and wrap-around verandah where you can sit and enjoy the water views or simply relax with a good book and the sea-breezes. A full kitchen, outdoor BBQ, PIzza Oven and fire pit making entertaining fun. And our newly built Rumpus extension makes the place fully functional with an outdoor shower and laundry out back to enable simple rinse and easy drop-off of swimmers and wetsuits.
The house is set-up for families with children – teens in the Rumpus out back where a billiard table and TV will keep them happily entertained and the children’s bedroom in the main house with two sets of bunks (sleeping 4), an ensuite bathroom and toys, books and games for all ages to explore.
In summer, the heritage Mulberry tree in the garden is laden with fruit to pick with the kids and help yourself to a stash of organic berries or make some mulberry jam to take home. If you are lucky to experience a wet or blustery beachside day there is a DVD player and choice of DVD’s for adults and children as well as Apple TV/ Netflix etc all to be logged in.
“Samarai” is located directly opposite the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay beach with its boardwalk along the coast and is a very short walk away from the “Lonnie” local shops, cafes, playground and restaurants. Queenscliff is a 30 minute walk or 10 minute car drive away from where you can take the ferry across the bay for a daytrip or drive through Sorrento, Portsea and Port Nepean National Park.
Touring is popular in the Bellarine region, so make the most of your stay by exploring the area. Returning to our house with its family ambience, very special character and sense of history makes a stay here a unique privilege and experience.
Rental includes all sheets, bath and beach towels, use of toys and play equipment including the billiard table. You should find what you need for any cooking, washing or cleaning you need to do.
We do request a security deposit which is charged to cover any damage to the house so that you can enjoy, with respect, a very important part of Australia’s heritage and maritime history that is being privately cared for and protected.
No Pets, No Smoking and No Events onsite please.
