The house is lovely, well appointed and spacious. Walking path was accessible from ocean side and ocean swimming area very close. James was super accommodating and informative. Weather was not swimming weather but sitting poolside with a book and a glass of wine soaking in the evening rays and listening to the ocean waves crashing was most enjoyable.

Looking for places to stay on Pico Island, I thought, like someone else wrote in their review, this was too good to be true. But it is actually very much like in the pictures on the profile, and then some! Apart from the beauty of it, you can tell how thoughtfully this accomodation has been planned. Starting from the detailed and informative description on the profile and in the house book, the navigation instructions, the easy check in (key box) and - not to forget - the kind and helpful contact to the owners and their local family/staff that keep the property in shape.
The house itself is situated in Silveira, about a 5 minute drive (yes, you absolutely need a car!) from Lajes, the local ex whalers village. You're right on the edge, directly next to the sea, maybe 100 meters away from an easily accessible bathing site (recommended at high tide). You can hear the sea and the Cory's Shearwater (owa ow ow). There is a hotel and restaurant in walking distance that we didn't visit.
The layout of the house and pool area is extremely spacious. 2 rooms with A/C in an almost hotel-like configuration with personal bathrooms and 1 room for 2 people with an adjacent bathroom. A huge covered balcony with sea view and lounge furniture. The living room with 2 nice sofas and a big TV and internet router. A great pool deep enough to dive in with a relax and barbecue area. A kitchen with all the good stuff and a washer/dryer. More than enough (pool) towels!
Hope to come back!!

From the moment we arrived, we had a great time. The house was very well stocked and in a great location. Every morning I would take a 5 mile run on the trail around the corner from the house. It was close to a natural swimming pool which was perfect for the family. We also enjoyed using the pool and grill setup at the house. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

A luxury property perched on Pico's south coast
The house is large and well-equipped for 6 guests. Bedrooms may be on the small side, but the communal areas more than made up for that. The greatest feature of Casa do Ananas is the covered porch facing the ocean. We spent hours there, listening to the crashing surf and watching bats and birds in flight. The eerie sounds made by the Cory's Shearwaters at night are "Blair Witch Project" weird, but we grew to love them. Likewise the swooshing of the Azores noctules right over our heads into and out of their homes in the rock walls of the house. The pool area is huge, and the pool itself - while not heated - was refreshing on hot days. The house's location can't be beat: Minutes from Lajes (fantastic bakery, lots of whale-watching tour operators), a half-hour from the start of the trail up Pico mountain, a pleasant drive to the vineyards westwards in Sao Mateus, Criaco Velha and Madalena as well as the good restaurant way east at Ponta da Ilha. Overall the house is at a very convenient midpoint on the island. We walked up to the Aldeia da Fonte hotel several times; dinner at its restaurant was good and the staff was helpful at other times when we had questions. There is also a yoga/massage studio right in Silveira. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and are grateful to James, Edna and Jack for letting us enjoy their beautiful house.

5 Days on Pico Island- September 2019
You don’t get a more beautiful property than this. Lovely large house, beautiful gardens. The photos don’t do it justice. My only concerns were because the islands are very humid, there was a very off putting odor in the house. I’m assuming it was mildew in the air. So much moisture on these islands. It helps to open all the doors and let the fresh air blow through. This helps with the smell. However, there are no window or patio door screens, therefore lots of bugs (even lizards) come in the house when the doors are open. During our vacation we stayed in a property on another island This home had a dehumidifier which helped a lot with the mildew odor. (Note: there was no visible mildew) I would suggest to be more comfortable that the owners supply a portable dehumidifier. Possibly install window screens and ceiling fans would be a major plus. It gets very hot and humid. There is no air conditioning. When you’re from a dry climate and not used to humidity, this is very uncomfortable.
Other than that, like I mentioned, a very beautiful property in a beautiful location. Enjoy!

A break form the norm
We had a lovely stay in Pico. The destination is so different from what we would normally head to. We thought long and hard about going for this reason but were delighted we did. It is lovely to find somewhere different and distinct from the usual holiday resorts. The house and its amazing location on the sea - not a mile from the sea - on the sea - was beautiful. Very large and very comfortable with a great pool and views over the ocean. There was an issue with the fridge but a temporary fix was put in place quickly. We will return!

Loved our stay in this beautiful home
We stayed at this property for 4 nights and loved our time there! It's absolutely beautiful, and is a perfect place to relax (especially after exploring the island), sitting on the terrace overlooking the ocean or enjoying the pool. The house was just as pictured, and the information provided by James was thorough and detailed. It's a short drive anywhere on the island, so we found it easy to see all the island has to offer. If I return to PIco I would stay here again!

Incredible Stay at an Over the Top Accommodation
We were 3 couples travelling in the Azores for 2 weeks. Everyone was "WOW" when we pulled in the drive and then into this beautiful seaside villa. it had everything you could ask for in a home away from home. The location was perfect for our daily trips around the island, on an off day we enjoyed the pool and large tiled deck and having the Fonte Hotel down the road to walk for dinner or lunch was an added plus. We would highly recommend a stay at this outstanding property.

Beautiful home, great location
This property is gorgeous! Tons of space and very close to Lajes for supplies. Would recommend as a home base for exploring the island. Had to supply our own paper products but that's noted by the property owner. James was very kind and easy and quick to communicate. Thanks again for letting us enjoy your home.

Beautiful house, fabulous location.
This is a lovely house, thoughtfully designed and furnished. Beautiful gardens and terraces, you can hear the sea from every room. At night you also hear the sound of the Cory’s shearwaters, great fun! Other wildlife in the vicinity of the house are day time bats, lizards and butterflies. The dining area, kitchen and living room are open plan and tastefully furnished, very comfortable. The house has two outdoor terraces, one off of the dining room with easy rattan chairs and dining room table and chairs. There is another terrace off of the living room with outdoor rattan comfy chairs. There are televisions in every room, wifi is available, we found it a bit patchy at times. The bedrooms are comfortable, two have lovely ensuite bathrooms with twin sinks, shower cubicle and sunken bath with another shower over. There is plenty of storage in the large fitted wardrobes. There are step out balconies in two of the bedrooms and its lovely to waken up to the sound of the sea in the morning. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a wonderful poolside barbecue with pizza oven. The pool area is also large, plenty space with sun loungers and a gazebo for shade. Take care, the terracotta tiles around the pool get very hot on sunny days. The pool is clean and well kept. Mount Pico can be seen from ome corner of the pool terrace on clear days. The house is well located for access to the main roads on Pico, the airport is 35 to 45 minutes drive depending on traffic. The house is in a quiet location with access to the sea and natural rock swimming pools nearby, there are showers and toilets at the rock pool. Take your snorkel as the water is clear and there are lots of fish! Recommended! There is s nice restaurant within a 10 minute walk of the house at the hotel Aldeia Da Fonte which has a varied menu and a nice outdoor terrace, be sure to book in advance at peak times. We enjoyed trips to the visitor centre and cafe on Mount Pico, on a clear day the scenery on the way up is beautiful, look out for cows roaming around! We also enjoyed a trip to spot whales from Lajes with Espaco Talassa, this was the highlight of our visit to Pico. If you are looking for a get away from it all holiday with some interesting things to see and beautiful scenery with a lovely villa to come home to, this property is for you. Suitable for families and groups of friends.

Perfect Pico Base Camp
This home was perfect for our group of 6. The location is great for whale watching tours from Lajes. Its proximity to Hwy 2A and the highway that traverses the center of the island makes for really easy access to the entire island. Off street parking in a gated area was nice. The home and grounds were clean, beautiful, and well maintained. The kitchen was well equipped and the dining area spacious. Two master suites on either end of the main level and the third bedroom on the lower level provided good separation for privacy. The swimming pool was clean and really nice after a long day of volcano climbing, lava tube spelunking, or whale watching. The washer and dryer worked well and were quite useful. There's no air conditioner but we were comfortable without it. The only negative was the small supply of paper towels, toilet tissue, and dish soap. We were out in 2 days, but there's a large convenient grocery store on the road to Lajes (look for the blue roof) a few minutes from the house. From this location you should plan for a dinner at the resort Aldeia da Fonte (5 minute walk from the house), and an ocean swim in the local tidal pool (two minute walk from the house).

WOW! Don't miss out on this great opportunity!!
What a beautiful and spacious home! This home is just as pictured. It has an amazing oceanfront location that can be enjoyed from every room! Literally every bedroom and all of the public rooms look onto the lively Atlantic. I was there in March and can't wait to return in the warmer months to enjoy having all of the doors open to the veranda. Instead, I loved spending time in the huge, modern dining area and the large kitchen. The house is easy to enjoy with a bluetooth music system and many tv's. The house is easy to find, has great off-street parking and the pool area is simply fantastic. Of course being so close to Lajes, makes it easy to get groceries, enjoy a great bakery (Sabores e Aromas), visit the Whaling Museum, etc. The house is also a great spot for exploring all that Pico has to offer. I had dinner at Aldeia da Fonte a couple of times and it was very good and I was able to walk which was nice. Also - I enjoyed an "Açoreana" massage at the new Wellness Center at the top of the hill which was quite lovely. The owner of the house was just amazing about making sure my visit was perfect. From planning, throughout the stay and afterward, James was so easy to work with.

Wonderful modern villa with a character
Loved the place. Great architecture, thoughtful design, appreciate the management checking, how we settled.
Would appreciate having better stock of consumables (for example, something to properly ignite the fireplace, needed to buy tabs for the washdisher, and it did not have salt in it; toilet paper was rather scarce ...). The value of the house is great nevertheless

Second stay here was as amazing as the first!
This house is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest! This house would be perfect for sharing with 3 couples - the bedroom arrangement allows for lots of space & privacy and the living areas are all huge. The outdoor spaces - gorgeous! Unfortunately November weather doesn't invite lazing around the pool. No matter!! There is lots to do & see on Pico and Casa do Ananas is perfectly positioned for exploring. Only minutes drive from a central position on the main coastal road and also from the road that cuts across the island to Sao Roque. Less than 5 minute drive into the town of Lajes do Pico where you find a reasonably sized grocery store, several restaurants, and the Whaling Museum.
An added bonus for those who enjoy good food - the house is located only minutes walk to an excellent restaurant! If you are looking for a peaceful stay in an elegant home on an amazing out-of-the-way island - Casa do Ananas is the place to stay.

Best spot on Pico Island with all the amenities
My husband and I traveled to the Azores for our honeymoon and we could not have asked for a better place to stay in Pico. The location was perfect - close to Lajes for grocery store, restaurants, whale watching - but also felt tucked away in our part of the island. The house is beautiful and has more than everything you need. We cooked dinner on the outdoor grill, went for a swim in the natural pool in front of the house, went for runs along the hiking trail that is along the house, and enjoyed drinking wine on the deck and listening to the waves. We were so happy with our stay and cannot recommend this house more. Thank you James for sharing your beautiful home. We look forward to returning! All the best.

Spacious clean house, with great pool area in lovely location on a beautiful island.
We stayed six nights, due to flight restrictions and very much enjoyed our time. We particularly enjoyed the space, the veranda, the pool are with barbecue and oven and the closeness to the sea/swimming area. There were a couple of minor frustrations - the bed configuration was not as described on Owner's Direct, it took a little while to find the light switches for the outside lights, there were very few household supplies left in the house necessitating an additional shopping trip to restock the property. Also the TV/DVD in the lounge was not working - but we did not miss it. These things prevent a 5* rating! WiFi was better than at home! We would consider a car essential when staying here.

Beautiful Property on Pico Island
My husband and I with our daughter, son-in-law, and two young children traveled to the Azores. One of the islands we decided to visit was Pico. In looking for properties that would work with our tastes and travel dates, we chose this property based on prior reviews. We definitely were not disappointed. It is a beautiful clean home with a spacious feel. The swimming pool area is large and fun for the family. A concern I had prior to our stay was that the property listing did not say "non-smoking". I am allergic to cigarette smoke. I emailed James with my concern. He responded back stating that the property does not smell from cigarette smoke. I decided to book the villa based on his response and was glad I did. I did not detect any smell.
We all love the beauty of Pico Island and hope some day to return to the Azores. James has been excellent in his response time to me. I highly recommend the villa as a place to stay on Pico Island.

Amazing holiday at La Casa do Ananas
We had a wonderful stay at La Casa do Ananas which is without any doubt the best holiday house we ever rented. The house architecture is stunning and fits perfectly in its environment. Sleeping rooms and bathrooms are spacious and extremely well equipped, just as the kitchen where everything you need is at your disposal. Outside our kids enjoyed the large swimming pool a lot with its beautiful views on the sea and the mount Pico. At 5 minutes from the house you can take a boat to observe the wonders of the Atlantic Ocean, we were lucky enough to see whales, 3 different species of dolphins and sea turtles! Our stay and the house both deserves a 5 stars rating, if I could I would certainly give a sixth one! Lastly, many thanks to James and Edna for your kindness and professionalism, you are great hosts and we are much looking forward to returning to La Casa do Ananas soon again! Thomas

Well located, with excellent pool
A lovely location, very near a swimming cove, with a great private pool and lots of outdoor seating areas

The location is great with lots of privacy. Hearing the ocean from the open windows at night with no road noise was a major bonus. The pool, the ocean swimming spots nearby combined with a well equipped kitchen made the experience amazing!

The home was incredible- it was beautiful and the view of the ocean was so nice. It was close to our Pico family members we met for the 1st time. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back again!

Once again we greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa do Ananas. It really is the most idyllic place to stay for a relaxing holiday, with the options of whale watching, walking, visiting Mt Pico and exploring lava tubes.
This year we managed 3 whale watching trips with Espaco Talassa, the third of which was very enjoyable due to how rough the ocean was......not sure what the other people thought about 3 Brits laughing hysterically at the exhilaration, especially the poor woman who was violently sea sick. Don't be put off though, as we saw plenty of Fin Whales on each trip - the Blue Whales seemed to deliberately avoid us this year, but other people saw some on other days.
We also took a trip to the lava tube at Gruta das Torres, which was fascinating but make sure you wear sturdy footwear and are steady on your feet, as some of the going is a little rough.
One highlight was that we saw a meteorite streak across the sky coming from over the ocean and disappearing behind the house......possibly a once in a lifetime event, which I assure you had nothing to do with the excellent local red wine 😊
Having WiFi and the Denon audio system was definitely a good addition this year, which enabled us to keep up with the news. There are plenty of TVs if you need a fix but the small lizards, the bats (which come out in daylight) and of course the sound of the Cory Shearwaters at night, is all the entertainment you need.
Anyway, thanks again James and Edna for allowing us to stay in your beautiful villa and I am sure we will be back again as it really is the most perfect place to kick back and relax.
Paul & Hannah.

I have to confess that I originally thought that this place sounded too good to be true. But it really exceeded our expectations. House and gardens are stunningly designed, immaculately kept and cleaned - and very spacious. The pool is large and you can see the volcano as you swim in it. The terrace and the large balcony have lovely views of the sea and there is a rock pool a few minutes walk away. Pico is very quiet and we did not see many tourists. Whalewatching and walking are the main attractions here. Well, that (and unusually for us), just sitting on the patio and taking in the amazing views. The owners and their local helpers were very helpful and friendly. It really couldn't have been better. We will be returning this summer (booked as soon as we arrived back home).

The house is beautiful, every facility you could wish for, modern and very comfortable. The pool and sun terrace area is great. Such a relaxing holiday with lovely walks. A great restaurant at the hotel just 500 metres up the road. We would love to return in the near future.
Many thanks to James and Edna
