love the old hotel
On Thursday, June 6th, I was a guest at the hotel and stayed in room 309. I was awakened at about 3am in the morning with very loud noises coming from nearby. I could not sleep. I called the front desk and spoke with a woman who suggested I use earplugs (??!!!). I requested a change of room. She put me on hold. I waited 5 minutes before hanging up. When I called again (twice), she did not answer. Instead, I got a very strange greeting and then nothing.
I was finally able to get back to sleep about 5am but, needless to say, this ruined my next day -- a long day of driving to my next destination (Jackson, WY).
When I complained later that morning, the front desk person allowed that room 309 is next to an equipment room.
But the only thing the front desk was able/willing to offer me was a free "upgrade" on my next visit. How perfectly useless! I refused the “upgrade.” I'm not asking for compensation for a lost night and a lost day of driving, but I do ask for a refund of the cost of my room.
The front desk person suggested that I contact the hotel through the email address ([email protected]). And then he again asked me to please take the upgrade which I did (to be polite).
I emailed the Hotel at [email protected] and received back this response from [email protected]:
“We did try to express that by giving you a $69 credit on your folio as well as a gift certificate for a comp upgrade on a future stay. You thanked us for these courtesies before departing. We certainly wish that you’d been more forthright with us then. If you had not stayed overnight in the room, we certainly could have gotten you a full credit. But in fact you were in occupancy of that room for more than eighteen hours. We also offered to show you the room before you checked in, to ensure that it was satisfactory.”
The response contains a mixture of distortions and outright falsehoods:

The nostalgia of old world chandeliers and wood working was very impressive to be around. Chandeliers in the rooms were also very special for us. The large stained glass ceiling in the main area was something to behold.
4.3
Always neat and classy.
Staff seems to have no leeway. I had to change my room from large double to parlor room. The parlor room is cheaper online. I was charged the higher room rate plus a $20 change fee. I stay there frequently. Wish they could do better.

The wood work
The couch in the room 210 was horrible. No extra toilet paper. I asked a guy at front desk for an extra roll he said he did not want to ask housekeeping and suggested I look again in room. So I did and there was no extra. The restaurant is ridiculously expensive for what we got.

Beautifully restored.

The dinner experience in the Palm Room was first rate. Server Mark was a seasoned professional and the meal was perfectly prepared.
The bathrooms need to be modernized.
The front desk clerk was new on the job and not trained well enough in greeting or executing her check-in duties.

Enormous room, great atmosphere. Was able to park motorcycle right outside hotel entrance. Not especially secure, but on main street with lighting.

beautiful building. nice and clean

This was once one of the fanciest hotels in Oregon and it has been renovated and restored to some of its former glory. The rooms are large for a historic property. The location is perfect for a visit to Baker City. The staff is pleasant and helpful. It's dog-friendly. Beautiful mountain views from some rooms.
It was restored in the 1990s and in many ways it still seems stuck in that era: DVD players instead of streaming services; a second-floor library filled with Danielle Steel books. Even the restaurant menu seems dated with bread pudding as the featured dessert.
4.3
Spacious, well-appointed room; very comfortable bed; helpful, friendly staff
Slow elevator

I love the property it was so beautiful and was like taking a step back in time. It was wonderful to read about the history of this hotel, and there was nothing that I didn’t like. Service was wonderful. People were friendly.
as I said before, there was nothing I didn’t like

The historic hotel is awesome. We had dinner in the dining room then drinks in the cozy bar before heading to bed. The 4 post bed provided a great atmosphere to the room.
4.3
The room was beautiful and comfortable. The staff was friendly. I loved the old photos and trinkets from the past.
I was disappointed there was not more options on the menu for dinner. I also feel that in house coffee in the lobby would have been a game changer.

Great central location with good eateries within walking distance. Beautiful historic hotel with huge room, comfortable beds, great shower and clean. TV in the room was around 24", odd for such a big room. Ample uncovered parking in rear lot across the street behind hotel. Discount skiing pass coupons and parking permit for Anthony Lakes Ski area available from front desk. If you dont return the ski area parking pass you will be charged $30 for that convenience.
Asked at reception if I would like breakfast, I said yes please. Received a call later that evening saying breakfast would not be available. No breakfasts were served. Breakfast is not included in the room price and is optional, did not even have the option. Went elsewhere for breakfast.
Later that evening I asked reception if I could use a corkscrew to open a bottle of wine we brought along in our room. I forgot our corkscrew. We were informed we could buy one for $7 in the gift shop or they would graciously open it for us for $14. What hospitality! Front desk receptionist had the personality of a cold corporate fish! Never even saw him smile. What a disappointment he was. Other staff members were helpful and cordial. Overall, our stay was fine but will never stay there again.

Gorgeous unique hotel.

The facilities had all the charm of a mid-1800 hotel with wood accents and an exceptionally historic past including a ghost story for the ages.
I had no problems at all with the facilities.

every aspect of the hotel was exceptional
nothing

Beautiful location
handicapped persons beware! the sidewalks are all torn up around the building! my handicapped shower chair was defective & it flipped causing my husband to fall to the tiled floor! he sustained a large arm laceration! i reported the incident to the front desk when we checked out! later that day the hotel staff called me accusing me of stealing a coffee mug😳absolutely unbelievable

When my aunt lived in Baker, she would take us to dinner at the Geiser Grand, and when we visited recently, we though it might be fun to stay there. The hotel has been fully renovated, with attention to detail, and we were delighted with our stay. The room was large, the beds very comfortable, and with 12' ceilings, it gave us a taste of bygone elegance not often available to travelers in these modern times. Breakfast was excellent, and served well.
Hard to think of anything that didn't meet our expectations.
