Quite an historic facility

The room was fabulous, although it’s nothing easy to walk up to the 3rd floor so many times a day.
The electricity went out for about 6 hours on Sat, making our room unbearably hot, when we needed a cool down after biking, it was extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable. I also didn’t see a $20 breakfast setup anywhere.

Location was well keep. Staff was very polite.
No room service at all for the entire stay. No towels , toilet paper. Had to ask for trash bags to empty our trash cans. Trash bags and dirty towels just sat in the corner.

We booked a balcony room through B.com. There was no room available. The hotel blamed B.com for the error. They initially offered no apology.

Staff was very helpful and quick
the higher price then expected for parking and Valet service. A bit tough to get around the facility but it was built back in 1888. High price of food.

Style of the hotel is fantastic and the area is one of a kind. Fairly ok priced as well
It was clear that the hotel was ramping up for start of the main season when we were there. Some areas was therefore closed and some work was going on here and there

We ate at the wharf for breakfast and it was excellent. Our waitress April was very good.

Lovely room, gorgeous setting and lovely staff.
Limited buffet breakfast choice, dining room not open for dinner but the Wharf was very good. Public areas were cold with unnecessary conditioning when temperatures dropped for a couple of days.

We love history and staying at a resort with such a rich (ha ha) historical background was really cool for a couple of history geeks. The location was beautiful - gorgeous live oaks covered in Spanish moss, sparkling water views and diverse wildlife. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
We did not like how thin the walls are... our first morning we awoke to a family with small screaming children next door to us. It was VERY early and the kids were VERY loud and they liked slamming doors. Not the resorts fault and not the kids, but it does sour our view of the resort as we were looking forward to doing something we rarely get to do - sleeping in on a weekend morning. Also, there was a bit of an emergency for us around 2am and we needed access to very basic first aid items. I went to the front desk to inquire about purchasing from them and I was informed that I would have to leave the resort and find a store. I found it very odd and inconvenient that a resort like this wouldn't have this option. Being as well traveled as we are we've *always* seen basic items for sale (albeit, expensive) in the lobby for guests. If you need a bandaid, ibuprofen, q-tips, pepto, anything like that in the middle of the night make sure you bring it with you or you'll be driving around the island looking for it.

Beautiful property with great service… the bike trails are easy and beautiful views. The pool is nice.
they had water dripping from the ceiling and black growth on the ceiling. The property restaurants were short staffed.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The food was good, I loved the history behind the resort. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I loved the access to the beach club and beach.
The hotel rooms could use a little updating, while I appreciate the history, I believe they could be brought up to date a bit on the inside. The food was a little overpriced.

Their communication is not the best.

The room was very sparse. We weren't in the main house and felt a bit isolated

it was like being in a fairytale and going back in time. The staff was magnificent!! Sophia at the pantry was the sweetest of ALL!!
it would have been nice if the grand ballroom had been open for dinner.
I have stayed here in the past and that was my favorite part… the dining experiences!
my daughter drove up from Jacksonville to take me to dinner on my birthday Monday night August 1. we were directed to the wharf. it was absolutely the worst birthday dinner I have ever had in my life!! I do not mind paying $32 for a dinner but when I could have better food at McDonald’s it’s pretty disappointing. The staff was not at all educated on the product how to serve and we literally waited a half an hour before we could even order. The food was horrible the shrimp are not cleaned they wanted $48 for a dozen oysters!! I am a fine dining waitress and I expect to pay fine dining prices but that my friend is price gouging!!! I wanted to order the pasta with shrimp instead of blackened redfish. I am not a fan of red fish and I do not like fish with pasta I like shellfish with pasta they refused to make it for me. my beer was skanky I was still charged for it and the wine list did not accommodate as they were out of everything I ordered. I felt so sorry for my daughter she wanted so badly to take me out for a nice meal and we both left crying
