About this house rental
Casa Vicolo is set in a former palazzo (independent building) on 3 floors. It is located on a quiet car-free street in the heart of the historic centre of Siracusa, the former Jewish quarter 'Giudecca', only 2 minutes walk from the sea. It is composed of 2 large bedrooms, 2 modern bathrooms, a very spacious modern kitchen, indoor and outdoor living areas including a large terrace for alfresco dining overlooking the rooftops of Ortigia.
Casa Vicolo is light and airy, with contrasting textures and textiles and natural elements against a white backdrop. On the terrace is a dining table made of volcanic lava from nearby Mount Etna.
Upon entry there is a hallway that leads to an indoor patio as well as a living area with an overhead fan and original cement tile floors. A quiet and cool retreat, this space is ideal for reading, doing yoga or taking an afternoon nap.
On the first floor are 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, air conditioning and heating, and French doors overlooking either the street or the patio. There are 2 bathrooms and between the bedrooms there is a living area with an overhead fan and a smart TV.
Stairs up to the second floor lead to the kitchen and a dining and living area with French doors overlooking the patio with air conditioning and heating, a study desk and a selection of local travel guides. The fully equipped modern kitchen – complete with dishwasher and kitchen appliances – opens onto the terrace.
Within walking distance are 3 different swimming accesses of Ortigia (rocky swimming point next to Forte Vigliena; the pebble beach Cala Rossa; small sandy beach near the Giardino Aretusa); the Duomo and Archimede squares, the Aretusa fountain and the Apollo temple; historic Jewish baths and puppet theatre; the lovely daily food market; and some of the best granita and gelato in the world!
A limited number of private car parking spaces may be booked on request, providing car access to the island at all times including during ZTL periods ('zona a traffico limitato' i.e. limited traffic zone). Private car parking located 300m from the house at €20/day, with opening hours: Monday-Saturday 7:00am - midnight; Sundays 8:00 - 11:00am and 6:00pm - midnight.
Please note: Our house is currently undergoing significant renovations, with new bathrooms, a radiator heating system and various other improvements to come in 2025 (updated photos forthcoming).

This is a very good property. Lots of room, great location, had everything we needed, and air conditioning worked well. The furniture isn't very comfortable and a few things could use an update, but that's not a major problem for us. Overall, it was a good choice for us.

Lovely apartment in a great location. Walking distance of everything Ortigia has to offer, restaurants, shops, sights. Comfortable and well air conditioned, Nice roof terrace but too hot to use when we were there despite awning. We had a couple of issues at the apartment one identified before we arrived and corrected after the weekend. Communication with agent over second issue was less than ideal, resulting in a very frosty check out.

Large house in a quiet residential area. Ortigia is small so you are only a few minutes away from lots of cafes and restaurants. Efficient aircon and well equipped kitchen. Sadly we could hardly use the beautiful terrace during the day as there were building renovations next door, but it was lovely in the evening. Great to have the whole house to ourselves.

Lovely spacious apartment in the prime area of Ortigia. Great well equipped kitchen and spacious bedrooms. The outdoor terrace is a real plus. Stephanie the manager was fantastic she provided great service and wonderful local recommendations!

We had three glorious weeks in Ortigia which makes this review different than a 4 or 5 day visit as we were settled into the house and all its nuances. Property manager Stephanie did an excellent job with recommendations, problem solving and transportation services. The sunny patio was a delight and the well equipped kitchen was highly used. We had plumbing issues which were addressed immediately but not always successfully. The bathrooms in general need an update. The couches are not very comfortable. They are chaise lounges which is great for reclining but if you want to sit up the depth is too deep and there isn't a back - just cushions. Our biggest qualm with this property was the alleyway; animal waste and trash.
We loved Ortigia! We loved the neighborhood, the food, the wine! Just not this house.

The hostess was easy to work with. The location of the apartment is the best. Restaurants, shopping and the sea close by. Ortegia is a must see for travelers.

A fabulous week in Guidecca

A lovely split-level apartment in a little side street in Giudecca, with a big open terrace where you can eat and drink. Bedrooms and bathrooms are on the lower level, and the living room and well-equipped kitchen on the top level with doors opening out onto the terrace. Location is great: a two-minute walk to the swimming platform and only a few more to Cala Rossa pebble beach. The immediate are is really interesting and full of great little restaurants, cafes and bars (Supernatural and Dada spring to mind, but there are many) and is more laid-back and less hectic than some other parts of the town. Although everywhere is just glorious: the Duomo is stunning, the side streets running down to the sea, Lungomare Alfeo and its sunset restaurants and bars and even the newly developed marina has some swanky (but not over-priced at all) bars to greet the yachts. Stephanie sorted everything out perfectly, the place is great, the town is magical - and really great value almost everywhere you go. Shop at the market for fresh fish, fruit, veg - all superb and really cheap. A great place.

Lovely house in an historic location in Ortigia.
Have stayed here before. Behind the front entrance is a courtyard leading to the rest of the house. The whole property is very spacious. The kitchen opens onto a lovely sunny terrace, which lends itself to al fresco meals.
Check in and checkout were without fault. Stephanie gave good tips on places to eat etc.
Thank you for a lovely stay.

Great stay in Ortigia
This house in Ortigia was a great find for my wife and I. We enjoyed the large kitchen and terrace, the location, and the good contact with the property manager (Stephanie).
The location in the Giudecca was very charming and close to the sea, the duomo, and the market. Ortigia is very nice for walking and there are stores and cafes within a 5 minute walk of the apartment.
The 2BR/2BA arrangement gave us plenty of room for our extended stay. We visited in the heart of winter (Jan/Feb), which is the low season. For anyone considering a January stay, it should be noted that the apartment has portable heaters only and may not be warm enough for some people at that time of year.
Stephanie was easy to reach and provided us with helpful advice during our trip.
We would definitely recommend the apartment for anyone staying in Ortigia.

A fantastic base for exploring Ortigia
Tucked down a narrow alley, this private home was the perfect place to spend several nights in Ortigia. The space is large, clean, comfortable, and the kitchen was well appointed for those nights we dined in. The large terrace right off the kitchen was perfect for both morning coffee and afternoon drinks. The bathrooms are spacious, the showers large, with great water pressure.
The internet was slow, but that could have been due to storms in the area; if you need a good connection you might want to ask for a speed test first. The only other negative was very noisy guests in a holiday rental across the alley—certainly no fault of this listing—but does affect the “quiet” aspect of the place. The other great attributes of the place more than make up for these two experiences.
The location was easy to get to with luggage and within walking distance to everything in Ortigia. Bars, restaurants, and shopping are literally at the end of the block. A couple minutes away is a large rock and stair access to the sea—we spent many enjoyable hours sunning and swimming. If you’re looking a fantastic holiday home in Ortigia, look no further.

Fantastic property
This a beautiful house in a great location , quiet but close to the sea and the buzz of the bars, shops and restaurants. The rooms are spacious and extremely comfortable, great bathrooms and comfy beds.
Stephanie, the manager is so helpful and informative. She speaks perfect English and gives great advice on where to eat and shop.
We loved the large terrace with great views over the rooftops. We will definitely return

A luxury apartment on ortigia
Spacious apartment, well modernised old building deep in the heart of ortigia.
Stephanie the manager was very good with communication and recommendations.
Some extensive building works ongoing on next to the property renovating the next door property was noisy some mornings but lots of renovation going on in ortigia in general because of the age of buildings

Sublime!
We stayed in a maisonette apartment (1st & 2nd floor) with a gorgeous external terrace right in the centre of Ortigia. The flat was decorated & furnished simply but very stylishly reflecting the Danish owners tastes. The location was ideal: just a quick walk to all the attractions & all the amazing restaurants. Ortigia is a gem! We loved our holiday & Stephanie the agent for the flat was efficient, communicative & a mine of information. Well done Stephanie! Ciao Ortigia!

Fantastic and large house in a magical location
Ortiga has a lovely spirit to it, and we found that out due to the house, the location, AND due to Stephanie, the property manager. She shared her special restaurants, organized our driver, and was available to us whenever we had a question. She even told us which shop to buy our morning bread from (less than 5 minute walk). Everything in Ortiga is walkable from here. We most highly recommend this property!

Well equipped property in a quiet traffic free area.
Everything turned out to be as described and we enjoyed our time in this property. Unlike many rental properties which only have limited kitchen facilities it appears to me that the owners use this apartment for their personal use as the kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery and glassware etc. making it a pleasure to cook in. We found the bed we used in the back bedroom very comfortable and the powerful shower excellent. We used Stephanie's driver to travel from the station to the property and this worked very well as both Stephanie and the driver were waiting for us outside the station when we arrived. Stephanie was very helpful and gave us lots of useful information about Ortigia. I would certainly stay in this property again.

Great space and great kitchen
This is a great rental. Lots of space which I imagine is hard to come by in Ortigia. The only negative was the lack of soap and shampoo.

Excellent apartment, clean, comfortable, everything you need & a superb location.
We did a dinner for 12+ one evening with no difficulty. Communications were good & check-in/check-out easy. Would highly recommend.

Lovely place and ideal for a quick dip and an evenin ut
Well equipped property with a lovely roof terrace. My only reservation was not being able Leave plastic for proper disposal but being made to carry to a bin on the other side of Ortigia with our suitcases. A little more flexibility would have been welcomed. We felt Stephanie put us on the ‘naughty step’. All in all a great place to visit and would return to Ortigia.

Loved it!
Great house! Everything worked, AC too!
The house has plenty of room and I loved having caffè on the terrace every morning.
It was nice to be on a different side of Ortigia to explore. Stephanie (thank you for everything 😘) was wonderful and extremely helpful explaining how everything worked and her suggestions to restaurants and markets were perfect! I will absolutely be back!
I love ❤️ Ortigia 🇮🇹

Lovely house, great location
The house is in a great quiet location, close to main areas in Ortigia. It’s nicely furnished and well-provided with kitchen equipment. The beautiful roof terrace is particularly nice to have, as quiet outdoor space is hard to find in Ortigia. Comfy beds, good bathrooms, and friendly advice on local bars and cafes from Stéphanie. If we were to revisit Ortigia, we would definitely rent this place again.

Lovely Property, Great Host, Fantastic Area!
I can only agree with the previous reviews here!
Stephanie met us on arrival & spent about an hour explaining everything about the apartment, where to eat & where to avoid, plus great advice about the area & things to do.
The weather was very hot (about 33 C) so the aircon in bedroom 1 was very welcome & worked brilliantly.
The Wi-Fi was decent in most places, but be aware that it doesn't reach bedroom 1 as it's on the opposite side of the apartment on a different floor to the internet router.
Bedroom 2 is below the router & would have a good signal as did the balcony area.
It's lovely to sit on the balcony at the large table with a glass of your favourite drink or simply on the comfortable chairs & relax in the peace & quiet. This was SO NICE!
The bed was comfortable, the shower was powerful, the kitchen was totally functional & the bathing platform is about 2 minutes walk away.
Finally, Retroscena is a must visit local restaurant that Stephanie recommended & we went there twice during our stay as the food was so lovely, the service was really good & the prices were fair.
Highly Recommended 5*

Semaine au top !
GE-NIAL !!!

The perfect host
The house is in the Jewish quarter of Ortigia, a very interesting (and quiet) part of town. The entrance is on a narrow alley, giving a sense of mystery.
The arrangement of the house is upside down, with an open living area on the top floor that opens out to a huge roof deck. I cannot say how nice it was to hang out on this floor. Large bedrooms with comfortable beds are on the middle level, each with its own modern bathroom with big shower. Air conditioners are available in both bedrooms and in the upstairs commons areas, keeping things comfortable in what was still a quite hot time of the year.
Stephanie, our host, was amazing. She provided many recommendations for restaurants and sites and then made dinner reservations for us at the restaurant of our choice on every night that we stayed. She made our stay special in every way.
Ortigia itself, while in some ways a bit urban and gritty, is also very compelling and historical. Just wandering through all of the narrow passages provided hours of enjoyment. Our favorite spots were the open food market and the main "square" of the duomo.

Perfect refugium next to the sea, sunny terrace
We were two couples, I have been here twice. Location was great, right in the old quarter of Ortigia. The rooftop terrace has sunlight all day long, and an awning for shade. Everything inside worked. Rooms and kitchen ere clean and neat. Kitchen had everything. Spacious bedrooms, good beds, with 2 fully equipped bathrooms. Fast internet. Close to everything, shops, restaurants, cafes, sea. Stefanie arranged a taxi service from Catania airport, 70 Eur, and was there when we arrived at the apartment. Everything went smoothly. Will definitely return. Ideal for two couples or family with children. Plenty of space. And the ping pong room on the ground floor.

Perfect location in a great town
This was a lovely apartment in a great location. It was quiet, clean and had everything we needed. Stephanie provided us with very good information about Ortigia and great recommendations about where to eat. We had some great weather for March so also spent time eating and relaxing on the terrace.
The well appointed kitchen meant that cooking and eating in the apartment was easy to do and the presence of oil, spices etc indicated that others had done this and we added to the supplies. The food market is wonderful and a great place to buy fresh fish, vegetables, cheese etc
The building is on three floors which means stairs (not a problem for us) and the middle floor, where the bedrooms are, should be cool in the summer.
Our tips for eating out include the lovely Retroscena restaurant around the corner and Cafe Apollo near the market for coffee and pastries, both recommended by Stephanie. Jane and Pete

Great base in Syracuse
Great apartment in fab location, especially handy if you do not want to drive. The home is well equipped with everything you need and well kept. We went as a party of two couples and there was plenty of room with the two bathrooms and two seating lounge areas never on felt in the way of anyone. Hoping to go back to Syracuse again soon and will very much consider booking this apartment again.

Superb location for us
The property was easy to find, very quiet, very clean and comfortable. Stephanie was really helpful with information about restaurants, tours etc. The facilities were amazing, I wish we could have stayed longer. Walking out to the terrace from the kitchen made eating outside so easy. Everything was on our doorstep so we didn't waste time searching for bars or restaurants. There was so much choice. The continental thunderstorms were spectacular and we had a great base to watch them from. Unhesitatingly recommended.

fantastic holidays
Amazing flat! We stayed there 2 weeks with my children and found everything perfect! Clean, spacious and bright, we spend 90% of our time on the second floor where the lovely terrace and the huge kitchen are, very quiet location as well, really short walking distance to mini markets restaurants and coffee shops, highly recommended.
