This is a very old hotel, but with so much charm. I think this lady was a real beauty in her time. I would stay her again anytime.
No complaints
3.5
The layout.
The staff, in particular the man on the desk, I believe his name was Mauritio. He was very welcoming and helpful.
It’s tired. The pool needs new lounge chairs, ect

Accommodations very comfortable, dinner selection good. Staff excellent and helpful.

breakfast is very good. location is very quiet. Lovely landscaping.
It is clearly an older hotel so has lost some sheen but is still a great place.

Good location near airport, quiet, basic facilities, bar.
No kettle or coffee maker, minimal breakfast

Right in the center, great value for money. The breakfast was ok

The rooms are really clean with lush plants surrounding the property. The pool is clean and tranquil! An amazing place to stay for the price!

Nice hotel with comfortable rooms. Good shower. Had a tasty lunch at the restaurant, at a reasonable price. Nice pool area, with lots of shade. Good for staying overnight or if you have a car, but inconvenient without a car.
Only typical Costa Rica breakfast (eggs, rice&beans, fruit, etc). Mostly somewhat ugly and hot surroundings, not very nice for walking, not enough of nature for my taste. Long walking distance to downtown.

I adore the cleanliness of Espuelas. It's as if my grandmother is on staff! Exceptional.
Front door is locked after a certain hour. I appreciate the security consciousness, but would have liked notice at check in. A reminder.

Quick stop off pre flight. close enough to town to make an Uber in. easy for the airport.
Nice but not somewhere you'd want to stay more than one night as there's not much going on

Quick check in...I had to really work to figure out anything at all that was likeable.
Staff not wearing mandated masks*, dirty floors in the room*, spiderwebs in corners*, leaky roof evidence*, unrepaired cracks in walls*, uncooked (still frozen in the center) chicken at the restaurant, insecure room (exterior windows could be lifted out, jalousie windows in bathroom could allow easy access to the locked room*, scuttle hole cut in closet ceiling could also allow access to the locked room*), dogs barking late at night in the barrio right behind the property, numerous "bodily fluids" (appeared to be urine, semen and blood) on one mattress cover*, live fire ants*, dead black ants, and live silverfish in/on beds*(gap under main door would allow any local insects in easily), money missing from room after we went out for 45 minutes, pool was full of leaves, no coffee maker (as advertised), very poor tv reception quality, room safe not working, towel edges old and frayed*, pre-charged for total stay (I've never seen this before and I've stayed in many many hotels) and refused refund for unused days after I checked out (4 hours after checking in) due to the health and safety concerns listed above. [Starred items have pictures attached, but maskless front desk clerk, live silverfish, and ant videos wouldn't upload -- can be supplied on request].
