Lochalsh Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the Skye and Lochalsh area. With the Skye bridge only three miles away the many attractions of Skye are on the doorstep whether for the more adventurous the Cuillin Mountains or to visit the renowned Talisker Whisky Distillery. The picturesque village of Plockton is fifteen minutes drive and offers several good restaurants and boat trips for seal watching. The area benefits from extensive outdoor activities including walking, hill climbing, golf, canoeing and water sports (private mooring available).
There is an abundance of wild life in the vicinity with many birds including the sea eagle (one of Britain’s largest birds). Otters, seals and pine martens can be seen from the house.
There are excellent travel links to the area. We enjoyed our stay, beautiful scenery

After a windy day and trying driving in the highlands, there was no better feeling than sitting on the sofa, fire burning, gazing out at the light and wind dancing on the sound as the sky dims -- a perfect house for a perfect holiday.

What a fantastic property in a stunning location. This stay exceeded all our expectations, and the real game-changer was each bedroom having an ensuite bathroom! We also saw dolphins and seals in the water from the living room window. A real gem of a place. Thanks again Colin!

We loved this holiday and everyone said it was the best place we'd stayed as a 3 generation family. We really appreciated having 4 very comfortable bedrooms, well soundproofed from each other and all ensuite. It's hard to find large, quality double beds in all rooms so this was perfect for us. The whole house was cosy and there was plenty of hot water. We made good use of the lovely, large dining table and loved the views both from living rooms and bedrooms.
The location worked really well, being able to walk through local woodlands and drive easily to Coral Beach, Plockton, Eilean Donan Castle and across for day trips to Skye to enjoy walks.
Having chosen to eat at home most days (we had two young children) the only criticism was the poor state of the 'non-stick' cookware which we avoided using, making cooking for 8 of us a bit tricky - in fact we bought our own frying pan! Apart from that the kitchen was very well stocked.
Many thanks for the best holiday and we hope to be back!

The beds were very comfortable as were the sofas, just what we needed after a trek.
I thoroughly recommend this place

Beautiful location and well equipped house, lots of space for 2 families sharing.

Perfect location, waking up and looking out at the views every day was a joy - we saw otters twice from the lounge window! Location is tranquil and quiet, but not remote - 5 min drive to Lochalsh for a decent co-op with a great range. 10 mins and you're over the bridge and onto Skye. The rooms were spacious, kitchen well set out and standard of decor was superb. If I could find one tiny criticism, it would be the water pressure, but given this is a rural location, Im not sure anything could be done to improve it. I would highly recommend and hopefully will be staying there again in the future.

The property and location were idyllic. My close family totalling 10 persons all considered the lodge to be first class in all aspects including cleanliness, quality of soft furnishings and kitchenware.

The house is beautifully furnished and decorated and well appointed, giving us a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Comfy beds, apart from the sofa bed in the study, which we needed to use due to the size of our family group. The sofa bed needs a proper mattress and efforts could be made to make the study more attractive as a sleeping space.
The views are stunning and the location, just minutes away from Skye, was perfect. The local walks in the woods were beautiful and allowed us to take our dogs out without getting in the car every time.
We had a few issues with the heating, but a quick phone call had these resolved instantly.
The only other small negative was some dirty plates and a dirty pan in the cupboards. This is probably due to there being a very large amount of crockery in the cupboards and I assume the cleaners don't check all the way through it. It was only a small inconvenience to wash these items before use, but not ideal.
Overall, a very lovely place to stay.

Gorgeous views, well stocked kitchen (the best stocked in over 30 years of visiting Scotland), great access to Skye, good dark sky location (we were lucky with the weather and had very clear skies on our last night).. There were 8 of us in our party and there was plenty of space for everyone. Would definitely recommend it.

Family holiday
Our family of 6 (4 teenagers!) plus our doggo had a great stay. Lovely house, amazing views, brilliant location.

Fantastic house
This house is a perfect base for exploring Skye. The house is better than it looks in the photos, total luxury. The location is amazing, we regularly saw dolphins from the window, the bay is good for paddle boarding with very clear water, and parking right by the beach for unloading all your gear, and local services in Kyle of Lochalsh are only 5 minutes away. The woods behind the house are beautiful and perfect for dog walking.

Great house and wonderful views. Took my 95 year old dad and the downstairs bedroom and en-suite were perfect for him - not advertised as for disabled so no grab bars but large enough for him to use his mobility aid and we brought a seat for the shower. The rest of the house was superb with comfy beds, great linen and wonderful views. Best equipped kitchen for any holiday house!

Spectacular views from a spectacular house!
We were blown away by this superlative house on the edge of the loch. The views from the front of the house are breathtaking. The location is perfect, allowing you to explore the areas around Kyle and giving you easy and quick access to the Isle of Skye. But the views and location are not the only positives of this house. It is beautifully designed, tastefully decorated and full of absolutely everything you would need for your holiday: from the good quality sharp knives in the kitchen (and every other utensil you might need); to the super comfortable beds and bed linens in the bedrooms; to the underfloor heating in the 4 bathrooms (so cozy!); to the light and airy communal spaces; to the….well, the list goes on and on. Colin was a great host, replying immediately to any questions we might have. We were 9 adults and teenagers in total, and we had loads of space. We can’t wait to come back!

Just a good as last time
It was almost four years to the day since we last stayed at Lochalsh Lodge and it was every bit as good as we remembered it. The house is spacious with lots of storage space for coats and boots in the hallway. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bedrooms were all good sized with clean, modern en-suites. Even although we did not get the best of weather every day the views out the french doors in the lounge are good for the soul and we had a really relaxing stay.

We were a party of 8, supposed to be 9 extended families of varying ages between 17 & 72 and at no point did we feel overcrowded.
The house and location are stunning!
The house is exceptionally well equipped!
Communication with the host was excellent.
Can highly recommend this accommodation!

Two families staying in the property and we had plenty of space for all of us. Amazing views - whatever the weather ( and we were very lucky to have lots of sunshine). You will need a car but there is a lovely walk right behind the house and you can wander along the beach and easy access for kayak / paddle boards. Loads of lovely options within 30 mins drive - including across to Skye. Colin and Gillian were great hosts and the house is fantastic - exactly as described. Would definitely recommend.

Lochalsh Lodge in Balmacara is the perfect family holiday home for enjoying every thing that the west cost highlands have to offer. You are a 10 min drive to the Skye bridge so Skye is on your door step. We spent a lot of time in Skye enjoying the amazing sights, food and beaches.
The Lodge has every appliance that you will need , Wonderfull bed rooms each with its own eusuit.
Locally the walks along the shore line, through the woodlands and up the hills are all on your door step.
A truly memorable holiday, very relaxing and refreshing.

We had a great week in Balmacara. The short wee path to the shore is ideal and we easily took the Kayaks and paddle boards down most days. Short drive to Kyle for supplies or the idyllic Plockton for lunch or a wander. The outdoor options are endless in this location. We had a trip to Rassay, some Munros climbed in Kintail
and Skye with a few other adventures thrown in. For a nice run/walk from house recommend the Skye trail from Balmacara village. House, clean tidy, comfortable with magnificent view. Comfy to relax and play with the kids looking out to sea. Hopefully will be back!

A stunning property in a stunning location. The house is beautiful both inside and out, so much light and airy space with the Loch at the foot of the garden. Four generous bedrooms all en suite with the addition of an upstairs study which provided a perfect space for my daughter to do her holiday homework. The views from the lounge and kitchen area are just spectacular, the Loch the garden, the birds. The kitchen provides every appliance you need during your stay. There is a great butcher in Kyle of Lochalsh and fresh fish shop just over the Skye Bridge. Take advantage of the walks in the woods behind the property, they won't disappoint.
If you enjoy walking, cycling, messing about in the water or just relaxing and enjoying your surrounds and nature, then this is the perfect place. Would highly recommend and will certainly look to visit again!

Beautiful House in Stunning Area
We stayed here for a week in October and thoroughly enjoyed the entire stay. The house was very clean, wonderfully positioned right on the loch, and had everything we needed. The log burner was amazing on the cold nights, although the house is so well insulated too. The house is situated with the woodlands behind it and the loch in front so it really is in the most ideal spot. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked to come back. :)
